Hello, I'm a level 10 orc mystic on the devianne server, and I've been noticing that I get a lot of drops that are items when i'm fighting. Would it be more adena if I could sell these items (such as thread, suede, varnish, stems, etc) to a person instead of a merchant? And how would I do that? :)
Basic materials such as those you listed are used in crafting equipment all the way up to the highest grade equipment. You can get 5 to 10 times as much adena from a player as from a merchant with certain materials.
To get a decent price you'll want to go to a mainland town such as Giran. In order to physically sell the items, you can set up a Private Store-Sell. To do this go to your Character Status and then Actions tab, it's under the Basic commands.
Once you select Private Store- Sell you'll get a menu that allows you to pick what items to sell in what quantities, and how much to charge for each item. You'll find many other people in town selling the same items that you'll want to sell, so in order to determine a good market price it's best to walk around town checking everyone else's prices. Keeping your store up overnight will generally mean you sell out by the morning if your prices were fair.
Isn't there a quest in Orc Village that gives you an SoE to Giran?
I found this quest! Then I was stuck in teh village and couldn't figure out how to get home!! LOL I ended up deleting the character out of frusteration!
Pretty much all the newbie equipment except the highest Non-Grade equipment you'll just want to dump at vendors. The path to 20 is a short one so the market for mid-grade items is rather small.
Once you get into D grade equipment and above however, there's a market for pretty much everything and you'll be better off finding a player to sell to.

You can get back, you just have to preform a few simple quests.
lot's of folks try to get out of starter areas as fast as possible to 'see the world'.
In my experience that's not a good way to level.
The more time you spend in an area the more you know the local monsters.
I've leveled a number of toons (recently too) and I follow the same prescription:
lvl 1-5---stay right in the first area you first materialize in...don't even leave the room. It goes REALLY fast.
6-12---right around the home starter town/village. Nothing too far away except if quests take you to new hunting ground.
13-20---complete local quests (may start taking you farther from town at this point) and begin class change....all around starter village.
Going to ANOTHER new town where u don't know the npc's or area mobs means a LONGER learning curve while you're trying to just level.
LMAO--I have a friend in game who is constantly going to other areas to find "a slightly better mob"....I outlevel him almost 2 to 1 every time we start new alts.
Don't be in a hurry--it's safer to learn the game right where you start out!
My advice anyway........... :)
I've been using the manor and aquired alot of stems. But I haven't been able to find any players wanting to buy it. Should go in sell mode and try to sell them and what do they usualy sell for?

this has happened at least three times to different players that i know of. the quest is simply not self-explanitory, and since you can get it before any other quests besides the free soulshorts quest, players at this level dont even know how quests in lineage2 work. the level of this quest should be bumped up to 19+...just want to say you arent the only one that had problems with it.
edit: "soulshots" i mean >.< aye spel gud.

Part of the point of it is to introduce you to the NPC's in giran, much like the low level quests in the starter towns where you run around to all the different people.
But I agree, it isn't sufficiently explained. Then, when you do find the correct NPC, you have to choose between like 5 different quests to do it
it's good to know I'm not the only idiot who gated over never to figure out how to return. ON top of everything, i must have gated on a day where there was a war because the ENTIRE town was covered in pink haired dwarves sitting down in sell mode. lol It was just FIELD of them and I couldn't find where I was supposed to go, and I could click on teh gate woman again 'cuase she was covered in players. lol I got so frusterated!
Lol, those dwarfs are there every day of the week. Dwarfs can sell more items at once then any other toons. Next time when you wil have problems tarrgeting npc's you can just type /target NAME comand.
You might as well keep 2x earring 2x ring 1x necklace, and have them equipped. You can't get much for them anyway, and you'll have *some* m.def in case you should need it. And who knows when you have money to get better jewelry.
It has been my experience that you always need the mats yourself, though. I would suggest that you not sell them, that you store them and fill your warehouse with them. Sooner or later you will be VERY glad you did.
Choice A: Sell mats now for 500a each, but them back later when you need them for 1500a each.
Choice B: Keep the mats, save the money. Be thrifty, be happy, be rich!

OR:
Choise one: Sell those 200 bones you acumulated as drops for 1.3k each ower night, buy best D wearpon with help of the money you got from those bones, level faster and easier.
Choise 2: save the matereals you got at lower levels, level slower due to bad equipment, but still run with your's skirt of fire when you will need 8k bones for B wearpon.
What someone gets at lower levels may help them then, but it most likely will not play a big role later on when thjey will need to craft stuff.
I would suggest here to try to turn them into B. hemp. This item is very important and in demand becuz its part of alot of crafting recipes. I duno if ur a dwarf or not, but if you are keep them until u have that recipe in your book them craft them and sell.
If ur not a dwarf, then it might be worthit to find a dwarf that can turn these stems into the much needed B. hemp and then open a sell shop n sell them.
Stem prices vary from server to server.
Im sure you can get 150a easilly tho. B hemp would go for alot more then that of course, maybe look around in giran for ideas on what to sell them at....
But remember, stems are very hot comodity, so nver sell them to NPC vendors or to cheap to players...
With manor system, u could make decent cask im sure by farming stems...

I'm asuming you're quite low level, if you are I suggest going over to blue coda's, EDIT: I mean red coda's sorry, if they give varnish as a reward (and if the manor system gives a good return, 50 is good, 100 is very good = 1 varnish per 2 fruits), since at least on my server they go for at least 800a each to buy shops which are always up when I'm around.
You can make absolutely great money farming blue coda's on the zombies and later the spiders (2 to 3 fruits per mob) with their appropriate DE village quests (which are open to any race) to cover port costs etc. I got about 1 mill leveling my de fighter that way with 100 return rate.
Hope this helps :). If the spiders are blue to you now then at least this might be handy to other n ew players :p
Or just find a yellow Player shop buying what you are selling and turn over your cash immediately :p
Do not sell stuff to buy shops especialy in starter towns people under cut the price and then go to big citys and sell for 3-4xs as much only use buy shops if 1 its an item you dont wana waste time selling 1.e. i bow stave. 2 if the person has offered a fair price 3 your are realy low on funds and need some quick cash. Other than that most stuf especaily mats sell with in a day. Most people craft after house so set up sell shop while u sleep or are at school or work or w/e
