To be honest man, neither are really that needed in a party, UNLESS you get a full warlord party, then those can pwn hardcore, but they are very rare so don't go just because of that.

Gladiator can own in 1v1 pvp, as long as the person they are facing isnt faster than them and an archer/mage. So they won't be owning very often.

Warlords will lose in 1v1 pvp, just like the gladiator, if the person is faster than them and is an archer/mage. They will just get kited. But there are less warlords, you would definately be unique. Warlords are AMAZING in sieges, as well, so if you are into in-game politics, then warlord might be the way to go.

I would say warlord, but thats me. Your choice really, just play what you want, in one chronicle you will suck, in another you will be great.
Well my clan leader is an A grade Gladiator and my Alliance leader is an A grade Warlord, so I will tell you what I have noticed.

Gladiator:
Good at doing singular damage to a target. Can take out dagger users pretty good. Mages and Archers will win 95% of the time within equal level range, due to slow run speed and the need to get close in order to do damage. INSANE amounts of damage with Triple sonic slash against light and robe users.

Pretty good PvE, and fair PvP.

Warlord:
Can pull massive trains within catacombs. If you have a SE (works best due to vamp rage buff) you can duo with them and level faster than ANY class in game. I have seen it, it is just crazy! Shot use is extremely efficient since you are killing roughly 10x the mobs someone else would be at the same time. In Seiges and where people are in close quaters such as the throne room, AoE stun is awesome! Pole arms hurt when you smack someone in the face. But yet again, in PvP you are disadvantaged in being slow, but you are great in close mass pvp. You WILL need a group to lvl or another healer. I would suggest getting a healer on a second account, but it is hard to pull and heal at the same time. Get into a clan that likes AoE. I know that our clan has a few lances that they loan out to melee users when we do pole parties. Tanks, BDs, Gladiators, Destroyers...they will all use them to chip in in killing the mobs, where one or two mages will AoE nuke.

Great at PvE, but healer/group dependant. Also fair at PvP but excels in mass close range combat.

Really it is your choice. The biggest difference is, do you want dual swords or a pole? Do you want to pull trains and kill many mobs at once, or do high melee damage to singular mobs? Both are good classes, and both have their negative sides. Sometimes I do think the Warlord is slightly advantaged though, but you will need to find people that like AoE and can help you do it.
