I just recently started playing lineage 2, I played it back in beta a little bit, and while the game was gorgeous, there didn't seem to be enough at the end-game to appeal to me. That seems to have changed quite a bit, so I felt I'd give it another try.
Myself I have played either the beta, trail version, or full version of just about every MMO made since Meridian 59, up to and including more recent fare like WoW/EQ2/D&D/CoH/CoV etc. Not that I'm flighty, my main games were Meridian 59, then UO, then EQ, then SW:G, and most recently most of my time was spent in WoW. I've hit end-game in all of the above listed games, and had quite a bit of fun doing so, often being in leadership in some form, and often in the best guild of whatever server I played on. Out of game I work a fairly earlyish job, and enjoy my game-time, as well out of game activies such as reading, TV, writing, and hanging out with friends etc. So now you know a bit about me and my playhistory.
My question in regards to Sieghardt is how friendly is it (and L2 in general) in terms of newly starting players? I'd imagine I would have quite a learning curve in terms of verbiage, item types, strats etc. But overall how formidible is the learning curve, and how hard can I expect it to be to find a good guild (clan?) to join up with. I don't mind solo play, either PvE or PvP, but I much much prefer group play. Thinking of rolling melee, even though I hear they are pretty gimped in 1v1 pvp here, but I generally prefer hybrid classes. Specifically from what I've seen I'm planning on going Dark Avenger as a human.
Any suggestions and information would be extremely welcome. Thanks! ;)
PS. Yes, generally I am quite verbose, I try to contain myself most times, but I do enjoy conversation, about just about anything really.
I've heard some disconcerting things about Lineage 2 in general, and wondering if anyone can confirm/deny/explain. I was aware that L2 was fairly farmer heavy, but then most MMO's seem to be anymore. But what worried me is that fact that it seems that in L2 farmers actually completely bot end-game raiding boss encounters, and thus (since its not instanced, and the items aren't BoP) making it so real players cannot. I'm worried on 3 levels abou this, 1) that the farmers are so organized and powerful, 2) that it seems players (in an open pvp game) are unable to stop them, and that (most importantly imo) 3) the game developers and GM's are completely unwilling to ban players for exploiting in this nature.
Any truth to this, and if so how prevalent is it?
Seems like really bad policy for them to allow this, as it would drive off lots and lots of players I'm sure, it is even making me think twice as well.
Farmers at endgame really aren't a problem. 95% of the time you will be in a group with your clan, and if you see a farmer group, you just kill them. The rest of your clan will protect you until your karma wears off.

Absolutely, 100% incorrect.
Early on, farmers are no problem. It is the end game where the farmers have crippled the game. They own the raid bosses that live players need to do sub-class and various other quests, and on Sieghardt, the pro-farmers even have the backing of a large alliance that (on other boards) openly admits to tactics a good player such as yourself would be ashamed of using.
NCS has made it clear that it has no plans to change things.
Is Sieghardt a good server? It can be, if you are wish to help make it so.

Hope to see you in game.
I completely second this statement, as this is a common question, and this is a good answer to it.
Hello there dude and welcome to the whineserver of sieghardt :)
There are alot of good clans and allys here that i think will let you in even if you are low lvl. The game play is not that hard to learn but the grind can be a bit boring sometimes but thats a part of the game. Dont trust ppl that ask to try out your gear and stuff, think its the same in every mmo tho :) Hums what more... Well if you ever need buffs and you are in the Dion area pm Cymberlin and if im on and not afk i will come and help you with some buffs and stuff :)

Yeah farmers do try to control the engame content , for a while there was a large allaince that supported them but they since have split it seem. the farmers continue to try an dominate raid s, Cataltyst an SoA/IC/Redemption generally compete with the farmers for this content. trying to beat them too a boss isnt easy, but we do sometimes, from the look of your post farmers figure heavly in your descion in that case i would suggest L2 is not the game for you, every server has them en mass.
Other end game content is very fiercely contested, you will probably find that you will be trained an pk'd on the way up.
To be honest though there are some nice folks here but most are not .. if you can find a good "neutral" clan all the better
Sieghard is very cut an thurst an quite unforgiving, takes a lot of persiverance an strenght of character(personally) to survive here.
1) Join a clan that doesn't support farmers and live with the fact that the farmers and their bishes OWN the high end raid content. You might be able to steal some now and then but mostly you will have to buy stuff from them rather than getting it yourself.
2) or let the farmers OWN you. Join a farmer's bish clan. You bend over and they'll feed your bread crumbs to keep you happy.

1. Make a dwarf for your first character. Its the fastest money making character to get you started. Once you get higher and get some money in your fictional pocket, then make something you enjoy and get some gear for them
2. No matter what character you make when you first start the game. Expect to solo till your mid 20s or more. No one will talk to you or invite you to a team until they get to know you, unless you play a certain class.
3. Farmers. They are everywhere. At all levels of the game. The soloing farmers hang out at the best drop spots or the best exp spots. Not only do they farm Bosses, they farm common drops too. NCSoft will not stop this, well because they would be holding back their own people, Koreans. As most of the farmers are Korean. PS, I have nothing against Koreans. I been married to one for 17 years.
4. Get a clan that is active ASAP. They will be your lifeline to the game. THANKS WE :)
End game Raid Bosses in C5 are inpossible to kill unless u have a 100 man strong force. Hence the end to the raidboss farmers, they are not gonna dig in to their pockets for 100 accounts at adena prices these days it's just not worth it for them.
We've wiped onbey/bravehearts a few times.. mass red at raidboss can be fun :) for the most part its the raid farmers that are the biggest problem in catacombs if you ask them to leave a room they normally do and there are tons of areas to hunt.
