I've heard about it from someone in-game, and on a server forum, but is it true in general? I've heard of groups of farmers, run by 1-2 people, that own the spawns for a large majority of the end-game raid bosses, many of which are needed for subclass and various other quests. To what extent is this true, are there any servers where it isn't, and why has NCS not done anything at all about it?
I just recently decided to give L2 a try, but this whole idea of farmers owning end-game content without any reprecussions completely is frightening me away from this game, and I'm sure many other propective players. Hope it isn't true, but I fear it is.
Well, first of all, a slight correction there, in Lineage 2, EVERYONE is a farmer. Especially when you get to higher levels, you have nothing to do but to keep on grinding the same mobs over and over and over (hence farming) not only to level up, but also to obtain adena and drops(don't laught).
Sub-Class is something that you won't be doing for a very, very long time, and over such time, things might change, so I wouldn't sweat over a Sub at this point.
As far as I know, every server has this one "special" clan that constantly kills RB's as soon as they spawn(or usually). But what is more, there are the whole Politics. Most servers have 2(or more) major alliances who compete for these highly valued Raid Bosses/Bosses. Some people, certainly in small or neutral clans, may not even be allowed to touch these bosses. But again, this early into the game as you are, I wouldn't worry about such things, but concern on more immediate matters of having enough adena to adequatly gear and level your character to a point where Eventuallyyou can try and participate in such things.
I've been playing MMO's since Meridian 59, and have hit End game and been in what usually becomes the best guild on whatever server I end up playing on, usually somewhere in leadership. While I don't expect that here, I've been playing MMO's for almost 10 years now, so I have a good track record of hitting end-game when I want to. If end-game in this game is broken, then it kinda defeats the whole point of even trying for it, in which case I'll look elsewhere. Which is too bad because there are some really cool mechanics to this game from what I've seen and read, and the art design is freakin gorgeous.

I think what admiral is saying is "don't worry about it".
Also, "end game" for a new player can take a really long time.
You guys are dodging the question, so I guess I'll just assume its true. Gotta love the idea of people saying "go ahead, don't worry about how much our end-game sucks, it'll be a while till you see it..." yeah, really makes me want to put in the time to see it in the first place....
1st of all, I'm not trying to convince you of anything. What you do is all you. It certainly does not bother me. Also, lets not compare how many MMO's you've played vs anyone else as I can assure you, to me, L2 is by far isn't the 1st, nor the last MMO.
L2 is not like the rest any other MMO I've played. So whenever some noob comes in and blazes through the levels with the best of everything and not a care in the world about the 'normal' financial woes of L2, well, again, that's something I really don't care about.

However, just to appease you, Yes, there are bots everywhere, as far as the eye can see. Leveling is completely hampered cause you have to fight for each indivitual mob and every grain of XP. Every Raid boss is down in seconds of it's spawn. No One has ever Subclassed in the this game yet, on Any server. No one has ever killed a raid boss in the past year or so.

Ok, first of all, read the forum rules so you have a bit of understanding as to why we are "dodging the question".
Secondly, there are plenty of people able to get the items/raid bosses needed for endgame content.
It's not a huge problem.
So, I'm not sure what you want us to say. Play the game if you want/don't play the game if you dont want. We are having fun.
As far as "issues", I don't know of one game out there that doesn't have issues of one kind or another. I look at the other game's forums and there is someone always screaming about something.
So look the game over, see if it is something you like, and if it is try it.
And once again. Read the forum rules so you can have a better understanding as to what is allowed on these forums.

Good luck and welcome to Lineage2.
You must be acting sarcastic. :D
Many of my friends are in subclasses, and taking down raidbosses. If farmers/other clans get in the way, just kill them.
Sub-class is NOT endgame. It is a rinse-wash-repeat tactic for starting the game over without having to do the ever-so-painful level 40 class transfer. That being said, raids are also NOT end-game. Sure, they are great exp and drops (if you are so lucky as to get one), but they also take much longer to set up than small parties. Here are the ways farmers tend to affect late-game dynamics:
1) Low-key high level raid bosses are often dead as soon as they spawn--claimed by farmers. Every server has one or two alliances out there that runs this way, killing every low-key raid boss that spawns about 30 seconds after it pops up. Even though these raids can be great fun, they are NOT the toughest of the tough. The dragons and the new maestro coming in C5 will be the true raids that most powerful alliances will take pride in defeating. The other guys are just for kicks. The true challenges are not taken by the farmers because they are inefficient.
2) High-key high level raid bosses are very difficult to take down. At end-game, they are not a focus, but they are good for the occasional break from PvP. Your real concern at end-game will not be raids, it will be politics. Castle sieges are an especially important role in this. Don't worry about whether or not you will be able to do raids. They aren't important.
3) Subclass raid bosses are difficult to get to. They are NOT impossible. You can finish the quest if you stick with it, but it might take you a few weeks to a month. In addition, subclassing is just for those people who want to reroll. It's an added perk for end-game players who don't want to sift through the monotony of the noob levels again. If you are an end-game player, you will have plenty to keep you occupied, especially if you are in a powerful clan.
So the general answer to your question is this:
Yes, it is true that farmers will take most of the raid bosses most of the time. It is POSSIBLE (though entirely unnecessary) for you to find one, though obviously this will not be the case at all hours of every day. Even if you can't find one, small groups can provide exp flows that should suit you just fine. Don't worry over the farmers. They don't kill end-game, which is mostly built on top of the PvP system anyway. They have other drastic impacts on the game (mostly economical), but it sounds like your playing style won't be too concerned with raid bosses anyway. You can level fine without them. And if you want to do the challenging ones, they should still be there for you and your alliance to track down.

Except when all the big bosses are camped by a pro-farmer alliance to farm exclusively the boss jewelry, then sell the jewelry for 800+M fifteen minutes after raid, sell the adena back to the person who bought the jewelry just a few hours ago. Rinse and repeat. Not to mention soul crystals and the other loot they get.
If you don't want to play with pro farmers, third-party program users and adena buyers, stay the hell out of Teon.
Look at the title of the thread, then look at the attitude of the post. This individual is just trolling. He shot back after the second responce with a snap judgement of the entire game. Let him go...........he would not like/ or play the game anyway.
One thing that is different in L2 than the other MMOs I've played is the end game. Most people coming here from WoW or EQ are used to Raid Bosses being the end game. They are not the end game here.
What is the end game? It depends a great deal on what kind of player you are. For many, it's Castle Sieges and PvP.
Well, I guess I was just looking forward to some of the raid bosses, I watched a few of the various chronicle videos, and the encounters looked like there were really amazing looking and a lot of fun. And I was really looking forward to the game, the art design by far is the most phenominal I've seen in any MMO yet. I guess I was just really really thrown off with the ideas that farmers seem to have such a stranglehold here and no one can do anything about it. Just seems extremely bizzare that any company would allow that to happen if they wanted to maintain a true fanbase of real players, thus drawing more new players.
Are bosses all timered? Maybe they need to switch them to random spawntimes. :p

It's not that the comapny "allows it", it's that the players do. Either things like this aren't really that much of an issue to most players, or the players won't take the steps to remedy it. I am inclined to believe it is the former.
Having recently done most of the subclass quest, I didn't find the raid boss camping as bad as everyone said. I watched Cabrio spawn twice, and he sat there for 3+ hours before anyone showed up (regular players). Farmers hit longhorn, hallate and kernon but all three were up at least an hour before they were taken down. Baium was taken the instant he spawned but I still got in on the first shot. I screwed that up but still I got in. :/ But this is on Kain.

If the vids you saw involved dragons, those are not ordinary raid bosses, but Antharas and Valakas raids. Farmers do not do those raids. Clans frequently organize Antharas raids, Valakas is a bit more intense, with not as many attempts yet.
And.. those dudes have been beefed up since the first Antharas rushes. I suspect they may get stronger in the future as well.
With new Chronicles coming about every six months, when you reach end-game, the situation in the game will not be the same as it is now. My belief is that it will be better. I would not let rumors about farmers 'owning' the game deter you.
