Question on Bodily Blessing SA

I have a warcryer and think it owuld be cool to have BtB along with the rest of my buffs but it specifically says target.
Does this mean if I do my party buffs without targeting anyone it would not land on anyone or does it land on anyone you buff?

You have to have a specific target to get it to work, and it doesn't land all the time. When I had my SoES it would take anywhere from 1-10 or more casts (I usually did shield or battle heal) before it would land.

You have a newbie buff which will trigger it... it gives pdef and is targetable... I forget the name...

Soul Shield.
Not necessarily newbie but it is the first shield lvl 3 in game for any char.
