Warcryer / Doomcryer armor/robes

Player Questions Started Last reply 7 posts
wanting to hear from experienced WC's and DC's as to what type of armor you wear?

I was on an orc only forum last night and a lot of warcryers claim to use heavy armor as opposed to light or even robes.

Im mostly concerned with my new Orc mystic who I am rolling tonight and what to spend my points in armor wise to prepare me for D-grade and what sort of D-grade folks recommend

one thing I didnt quite understand, is even when people were not discussing armor sets, they insist not to mix match leggins with chest pieces. IE. dont use a robe top with heavy bottoms? why does this matter if your not concerned with a set?

Ideally I want to play a battlemage. Knowing the WC is mostly used for buffing I can see why some would use heavy armor over robes. Nobody seems to wear light armor however and I was wondering why this was?

could someone also enlighten me on the main spellcasting role differences between a warcryer and an overlord? More so, does one have more direct damage spells, DOTS or AOE than the other?

thanks!
I second all of these questions. hehe :)

Most Orc Mystic classes use two sets of armor. (Overlords and Warcryers.) Most of the time Heavy's extra Pdef is better for you and the just fine for the party. Using heavy means you can usually pull off all your buffs (barely) then just melee until you regen and its time to rebuff. If your gonna be doing any healing or added buffing (siege or party in tough area) you'll probably need the robes added MP and have to sit often like normal healers so you won't be meleeing anyway. (If your running out of MP you might want to get a Mana Up weapon.)

For D grade, get Brigandine and just Drain & melee your way to L40. Duals, 2H sword, or a blunt all should work just fine. After 40 you can tailor your equip more to your playstyle.

NEVER mix your main armor types! (Chest/legs) The type penalty for mixing that is just uncool. Stuff like the helmet, gloves and boots don't make a difference though. Even if you do get the skills for all the armor types, the way the various type penalties/bonuses are applied (cast speed/mp regen/etc) is all wacked up.

Very few use light armor, because the pdef is lower compared to heavy armor and you don't get the MP bonus of robes. So that means buying a *third* set of armor (B grade and higher) which is more than most can afford. And usually the set bonuses for light aren't that compelling compared to the others at the levels when you could make that choice worthwhile. (52+)

Warcryers are the SE's of orc mystics. (VR/Haste/DW.etc)
Overlords are the EE's of orc mystics. (Zerk/Shield/WW/EMP)

Warcryers are good party buffers, Overlords are Siege Buffers.

Both get a single Poison DOT and a single 'Flame' DOT. (Bleed) Warcryers DOTs are single target spells, Overlords are AOE.

Warcryer gets more buffs than an Overlord, the Overlord in turn gets AOE seals instead. (The vast majority of which are useless wastes of MP) Both get single target drain/fear/madness.

PS - The DOT skills (and the Drain) take so much MP (and you get no MP manage skills) that you are *never* going to be a 'Battlemage'. Best you can be is a 'BattleBuffer'. (Kinda like a Prophet with a bit more potential offense.)
thanks pain!
battlebuffer is cool too. Knowing this i'll lean more toward heavy armor using blunt weapons. good thing I have a spare set of bronze laying around my destroyers wh for when I hit 14 :)
I have both a heavy and robe set. Robes for when I'll need more mp, obviously :)
I'd like to have DC robes, but that's just not happening. I use the tallum robe set I use on my SE. When I can get away with it (mana wise) I use tallum heavy. It has a nice bonus for melee -and I only need one helmet for both sets :)

Though at B grade, I used BW light, which has a nice bonus for WC in my opinion, and it looks really nice on my dark elf :p

Ideally I want to play a battlemage. Knowing the WC is mostly used for buffing I can see why some would use heavy armor over robes. Nobody seems to wear light armor however and I was wondering why this was?

Light is "in between" robes and heavy, most of the time ether robes or heavy are better for some concrete situation. Only exeption is PL set, it's imxo way better then FP or Composite at C grade. Many also like BW light, it's also an in-between, but it's geared more toward mages.
Champa, how often you find yourcelf in heavy? I'm thinking of going the same A set up for my WC, but I'm noticing that I have robes on more and more often now.. And since I got some prety limited amount of money and I whant to keep BW heavy for when my dwarfy will need it..
