im very new to the game..infact, i only got it yesterday...and am enjoying it thus far.
Im afraid to say, im another CS, turn WoW, turn L2 player. And i understand that this game is a monster compared to the others and am happy to play this game as much as humanly possible.
However, there is one thing that im worried about. I've noticed, (like wow), there are rows an rows or action bars hidden behind the arrows to the side. I dont want them hidden, i wanna wanna show them and move them, and have all of them on my screen NOW. my question to you is, can this be done?
With wow, you have the main actionbar, then bottom left action bar, bottom rightaction bar, sidebar, sidebar2 and if thats still not enough, you can download mods to have as many as you like! I've not found a mod community thus far, so i guess the mod option is a little far fetched..but i would really like to have 3 or 4 rows of action bars on my screen at any given time.
You can hit alt + F2 or whatever else to activate a new action bar, but you cannot have 2 bars active at the same time. Sorry! This isn't WoW. TY God! :D

What does this have to do with WoW? Alot of other very great and house hold MMO's use this ability and its something i hope they finally bring through in C5 because there is alot of stuff i want to do but just cant simply because of the amount of clicking and the need for 4 hands.
I know i could increase my gameplay by having 2 hot bars open, thats the thing about L2, there really is no skill envolved, it comes down to knowing what class your up against and how deep your pocket is to owning the "best" gear for your grade, thats as far as it goes.
If this game had freestyle movement in it like WoW, DAoC, EQ and such forth where you can strafe and move around using directional keys, it would be alot more challenging and exciting to say the least, all i see now days is mages and archers picking people off and then the rest getting trampled over once their down.
Being able to have 2 Hot bars open at the same time doesnt make anyone less skilled or the game dumbed down, it just makes things less frustrating and gameplay more smooth.

Are you playing Lineage 2? You don't need 4 hands, or even 1 for that matter to do almost everything in L2. Everything can be made mouse-clickable. Nothing wrong there. Using mouse to change from skills bar 1 to 2 to 4 or whatever is just 2 to 3 clicks away. Using left mouse to move, followed by holding the mouse button down, you can move and turn at the same time, then right mouse to center your screen back to center.
I have an EE and I have 4 or 5 skill bars full. I switch bars depending on the situation. A bar for soloing, 1 for buffing, 1 for debuffing and healing, one for healing.

I'm not sure he was saying that desiring 2 skill bars was an awful thing "like WoW".
I think he was just saying "this is not like WoW", then, thinking back on other WoW elements that he disliked he just added the aside "thank god".
I'm sure many people would benefit from having 2 skill bars open. I'm sure many of those people are glad they are not playing Wow. Time for coffee.
I've always thought it would be cool that if, along with the current hotbar system, there was a small (perhaps 4 button-mapped to some keys...) hotbar that was permanent. Kind of like the little system one. That way you could have the 4 most common skills/actions always available and still be able to switch between the other 10 hotbars.
Please understand that I think there is just a slight bit of weariness with people coming here and wanting things to be different "like WoW". It's just that we've gotten that a fair amount and sometimes it tends to make people a little defensive.
As you may be aware, there was a long thread here recently about how much better it was and well.....
Anyway... it would be nice to have more options in the interface, but the way it is there isn't. Maybe they will add them later. They have done several changes to the interface since I started playing in Open Beta, but not customization options.

anybody who uses the mouse for anything besides targeting in pvp is going to die.
I wonder if in Korea, they have mod's to add more bars. I first got interested in Lineage 2 while visiting Korea. At a PC bar I saw someone playing this game and I was impressed with graphics. I also noticed he had multiple hotbars. (Or maybe it was a different game, I could be mistaken)
to be honest, im glad this isn't wow. Thats why i left wow and why i spent some more of my student loan money on the game! I dont want wow. I just thought that there would have been a way to do it and i was being stupid.
As there is obviously no way to do it, I'll have to learn the alt+F buttons...however, as a left hander, its quite hard to press alt and F5 with only your left hand quickly in the heat of battle! :)

on a side note alt+f1-f10 works great.
i second this, any menu or bar that i need, i use short cuts (Alt+ f1-f10, alt-x, alt-v (tab), alt-c, alt-k) and only click on targets...other wise it's a waste of a click :)
I personally like pushing the keys to launch skills and attacks or any other action. I find it much more efficient to only use the mouse for selecting targets. Once they are on target you can quickly hit the key for attack instead of having to drag the cursor over and click it. This is especially handy for archers as I can Target, hit my 1 key to attack and then promptly click my mouse on the ground behind me to run away and kite the mob. Then when the reload timer is done, I can hit the 1 key again and so on. If I need to load a soulshot, I just hit the 2 key before the attack. If I need to switch between buff bar and heal bar on my SE, I just Alt+F1 for To bring up my vast array of Heal spells, including recharge and Cure poison etc. Then Alt+F2 to go back to the buff bar. I've gotten really quick at it too. After a while it becomes involuntary.

This is not my idea.
this idea was originallya short hotbar for summons, correct? that only appears when a summon is out? i like it, i since the pet gets a sort of allowance (but a smaller allowance than a player) of 4 actions, and most pets/summons can do a bit more than that. makes you think about which ones you will need. but gicing everyone an extra 4 actions is just not necessary, since the current system seems to work for the majority of players.
Well another NCSoft game has up to three action bars. City of Heroes. They also have global chat, the ability to chat across servers. And if you add someone to your global friends list you are notified when they log on, no matter what alt they may be using or which server they are on.

This has been brought up several times before and I still give it a definitive thumbs down.

I'm not too keen on the global chat, but then im new so have no freinds and know noone who plays...but others may want it.
However, 3 actionbars would still be brilliant!..optional ofc. If you have got use to alt+f4 or whatever, then keep using that, but i think a lot of people would find having a few other actionbars on screen useful.
As long as you cannot lock the skills on the bar (they are always draggable both to and from there; NCsoft reportedly fixed that in c5), you better use keyboard shortcuts to launch skills from the bar.

Not a lot. Pointing a mouse to click is just too slow if you are trying to get the maximum from the abilities of your toon in this game.

If you go into your options and check the press enter to chat, then your hotkeys become the number keys below the F keys. Not much I know, but easier then hitting F1 to attack and Alt + F2 to switch to a new hotbar. A simple 1 to attack and alt +2 to switch to hotbar 2.
To the person who said if you use your mouse in PvP your going to die . . . what? Clicking to run when using a bow or needing to cast kite is alot easier imo then using the keyboard to try and move or standing there getting killed :P
linega2 lack of UI costumation. As it is an mmo it should have better interface for users. The current one is so old. I liked to see a new shiny one with more action bars and goodies :p
Not that you should have to buy something else to play the game the way you want, but a Nostromo helps. You can bind keys to switch to a diffrent bar, use something there, and switch back within a second, if you play with the delays for a little bit to get them tow work.
Ok, first off, in my post on the first page, I was simply referencing the fact that the OP mentioned WoW in his OP. Yes, I was hating on WoW; yes, it was on topic. Kthx.
Second, there is only one hotbar in L2 for a reason. City of Heroes began as a 100% PvE-oriented game. Because of that, they tried to make things as easy as possible on the server population. In L2, however, there is much more PvP content, so limiting players to one action bar at a time forces them to develop their bar-switching skills or specialize one single general purpose hotbar that will work for both PvP and PvE (which can be a very difficult task). If they ever change this, I will be very disappointed because it will be a step in the direction of other MMOs. I'm not paying to play a game that is like other MMOs because, again in my opinion, other MMOs out right now are extremely boring / easy.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to flame you OP; this is really just a response to the folks back on pages 1 and 2 of this thread. Anyway, there's my take on it. :D
Yeah City of heroes began as a PvE game, however I really don't think that PvP is the reason L2 only has one action bar. CoH was my first MMO and the reason I left was yes it was too easy, got rather boring after awhile. The three action bars were just a visual ref for me as the first bar was accesed by using number keys 1-0, the second bar alt 1-0 and the third bar was accessed by hitting ctrl 1-0. The bars could be expanded or collapsed back down into the original single action bar.
Off topic: What truly killed my interest in CoH wasn't the addition of PvP or how repetative the missions used to get. The dev's of the game "balancing" the differant powersets for PvP completely messed that game up. Be careful what you ask for if you feel underpowered. What ends up happening is everyone gets nerfed until we all suck equally.

You dont have to press the F keys you can press alt+1-9 and it works the same.

that my friend, is what is currently happening in l2

hit "1": activates first skill, first bar

hit crtl+1 : activates first skill, third bar
Is it THAT hard to not just complain right away and think of how the idea might be good beforehand? I'm not just asking that to the guy I quoted, it's a friggin general question to the entire planet, I mean, it's always "hey, what do you think of- No it sucks you n00b."

You cannot use Ctrl to specify an alternative toolbar - it is to force your skill use in PvP (and in some other situations).
You cannot use Shift either - it is to prevent you from accidental moving when you launch your skill.
You cannot use Alt to select ONE additional toolbar, it is currently used to select much more of them. I have about 7 toolbars filled, and need fast access to at least 4 of them. For example, Alt-2 toolbar is fully packed with only the stuff related to healing (and Alt-2 2 is Battleheal).
