Player created events...!

Greetings,

Why oh tell me why you people are so stupid ! Yeah you heard me... STUPID !

There are tons, and I mean TONS of people out there who are GREAT at creating events. All in our own way, we try to have fun and to some people, fun comes with seeing other people have fun (I'm sure you GM's can relate to this).

The problem here is with NO control whatsoever over player created events, and in a game where scamming is allowed, it's pretty hard to get people to participate if you're not "official".

Some got stickies, wich is a good effort in trying to promote these kinds of efforts, but as you can clearly see, this kind of thing needs more structure (and less sticky space). BTW, when are you gonna clean all the old stickies ?

I'd suggest a special board for player created events. This would give easy access to all peeps to player events (without the discrimination of the sticky). Also, this would help the DM's, the enforcers and the philantropists to have their own area. [923] I'd do it here but you'd send me to off-topic, ROFL !

But no wait, you tell me, how do we get player created events burning in L2 ?

Yeah you tell me, because I don't see the answer.

An event forum sounds like a good idea to me. If participation gets high enough this could enhance the community a great deal.

As I see it the biggest obstacle to player created events is the server barrier. Even when someone sponsors an event like this they rarely can offer a substantial reward on more than a single server. It would be great if the GMs could set up a system to approve player created events that pass their criteria and offer rewards themselves.

Of course, the ideal would be to design the events so well that participation itself is the reward. If this kind of thing becomes big enough it would be a clear indication to the GMs of what kind of events the playerbase is looking for, improving player satisfaction on official events as well.

I would like to see this. I'm working on an event now for the Lionna server, and I'd love to have a place to sticky it here.

/agree x10, please NC reads this, and help players play.
Since this thread doesn't seem to be grabbing much attention (maybe everyone's just away this weekend), I thought I'd kick start the thread by listing some possible player event ideas. There are plenty of people here that are far more creative than I am, so feel free to list your own ideas as well. Maybe if we demonstrate to both our fellow players and the GMs that we have mountains of ideas and a will to make them a reality, they'll give us our own forum in which to organize them.

Here's my list thus far, I may add more if they come to mind.

Board Quests!- we have an experienced DM who enjoys being a DM in events such as these. From riddles to mind games they're fun for everyone, especially those who frequent the forums.

Roleplaying Contests- We've got plenty of roleplayers out there with some real writing talent. Every few months a story so well written emerges that it deserves some recognition.

Dwarf Race- We'll gather up 20 dwarves and equip them with blunts, and set them on a race from one plain to another. Dwarves will be divided up into teams of 4 and the first team to have all 5 members arrive at the goal wins. Attacking and stunning other players is encouraged, and once a dwarf has reached the goal and had their name called out they may return to assist any comrades that may be tied up in combat.

Adena Art Contest- It's been done before, in fact it's going on right now. Anyone can take a pencil to paper, but it takes a special kind of talent to create large scale works of art using in game items, especially with possible interference from other players.

Art Contest- Adena art is great, but some things can only be conveyed by a master of the brush. Put your skills to the test in a match against the other artists of Aden.

That's all I've got off the top of my head right now, I'll keep thinking of more. If anyone else has some ideas whether they've been done before or are completely original it would be great to hear them.
It would certainly be nice to have an area in the forums for player run events. I did a long while back make a post in the roleplayers forum inviting people to one of my old clans RP events, unfortunatly, there wasn't much of a response :).

The only small issue I have with it is that advertising events so openly can attract a large amount of griefers. I certainly remember it being true in a game I used to play, if the wrong people knew you were doing an event, they'd turn up just to cause trouble.

EXACTLY ! And basically if you attract the greifers, you can tell your event is a success (participation, even in reverse form, is still participation, and with no reward. In my board quests, some peeps would hand in fake clues to disrupt other players. They even PM'ed me to make sure it was ok with me...).

This in turn, attracts the enforcers. You know, those high levels who are bored and are just looking for a trouble maker to PK into oblivion...

Scavenger Hunts: someone did one of these a while ago, but i just wanted to point out this is a very natural sort of event in L2. most of the game is spent running around trying to get speciffic drops from the far corners of aden, and regardless of the reason/usefulness for the hunt, everyone loves a change of scenery and a good quick spelunk. the possibilites here are endless.

Pet Olympiad: my sin eater versus your buffalo, to the death.

Musical Contest: especially with L2radio not getting off the ground, would be nice to get some submissions of tunes from different people for "best L2 mix". catch is that you can only splice together in-game or self-made sounds.

Superlatives: players compete for the highest character statistics. most PKs, highest p att, etc. screen shots required.

NuB, tEh MaSqUeRaDe: for one day, participants reroll to newbie towns on their main server, no transfer of equipment allowed. maybe some people would have mains at war with your main, no one would know. oh, the chaos. would be cool to somehow unmask people at the end of the day, but i dont see how it could be done without a lot of double-masquerading. all participants would get party masks.

assassin: available only to dagger users, based on a game my friends and i played in high school. participants send mail to the DM, each one gets a single target assigned to them, such that they are both hunting and being hunted. when they kill someone, they send the DM a screenie and the DM assigns them to their old targets target, until only two people are left, but they dont know they have each other as targets. the trick here is that its much more fun out of game because real people cannot stay logged out or in safe zones for log periods of time. also, would work best if DM had a bishop/EE to rez people.
Capture the Flag Elf - the DM sets up two "flags", which are actually players on two or more opposite teams. Find the flag, tag them, and then get them to your opposing base while being attacked and chased by the other team.

Hide and Seek - pick a town - like Dion or Gludio - then set several people up to hide. Count down and go. No /target allowed.

Level 1 Dwarf Tournament - create a level 1 dwarf - set up a tournament region in the dwarf starting zone and do mass pvp. Can you kill the other dwarves?

Free the hostage - Set up a hostage situation. A "hostage" will be chosen and then surrounded by many guards will be taken to a remote location. Find the clues set around by the DM, either key players or marked "maps". Find the hostage and do battle with the kidnappers to free them.

"Clue" Style - There is a murderer among the party, selected by the DM. Can you find out who it is?
I'd like to have something such as GMs being perma red, with raid boss type stats, over enchanted skills and killing players, eventually getting enough people around to take a GM down and have him or her pop with the usual L2Day scrolls and Enchants. Would be more fun than just hunting for the raid bosses and minions, because the boss could come find you.
GMs used to do something like that in UO. They'd take control of specific boss monsters during special events, such as when the forces of evil were attacking a town. The best part is that when you threw an insult at them during combat they'd throw one back.

That's not really a player created event however, and it's not really necessary to have a normal character 'play' the bad guy when there are enough players naturally fitting that role.

True, if that's what you're aiming for. Personally I want my events to go smoothly, and as planned, rather than having 1/2 the participants PK'd before anyone can stop it. Certainly some sort of misdirection in certain events could be interesting, but I'm sure there would be plenty of griefing, that simply detracts totally from the event.

As for ideas well here are two that I've run (or am going to) for my alliance.

Treasure Hunt: One evening, I post a screenshot, mostly blacked out of a specific location in Aden, along with a clue. Then each evening after that some more of the picture is revealed, and an extra clue is added. The first person to find the location and post their own screenshot wins.

Anagram Hunt: This is a team based game, each team gets a list of monster names. But the names have been rearranged so they first have to work out which monsters they have on their list and then go and hunt one of each. Once done they return to ths starting location and repeat the names of the monsters back to the judge, they get points for each correct one, and bonus points for returning back to the start 1st/2nd etc.
Stabby comic book collection..

Drop by mobs...collect the whole set of 40 I think.

Turn them into a NPC for a chance at "A" helm something like the TOI BP quest.

Of course Stabby comic #1 would be the hardest to find.

Think about it an event created by players collecting items created by players.

This event already exists. Dedicated Stabby Comic book with comic #1 (august 2005 edition)... (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/darkmotion/dedstabby.jpg)

Those babies don'T drop from mobs, but off Richman. (http://boards.lineage2.com/showprofile.php?Cat=&User=113) He's a named mob you have to PM if you'd like to get yourself a dedicated Stabby book (You'll get a discount if you say Darkmotion sent you...)

I wonder what the August 2006 edition will look like...

Looks like it's time to PM Richman again...
