So I left WoW after spending 19 months of getting the best gear in pve and pvp pre-Naxx (the new content patch that was recently released). I decided to play Lineage 2 because I heard it was much more pvp oriented in the endgame than WoW (WoW is like ~85% PVE and ~15% PVP endgame). But I have a question about high grade items.
From what I heard and read, is that items higher than B? grade can't be bought from stores. Do you need to raid alot to get A and S grade items? Like in WoW? In WoW, you would spend 5-6 hours 2-3 nights a week with 39 other ppl for a CHANCE to get the item(s) you need.
You do not get items here from raiding it's crafted (except a few jewelry pieces). That's not to say you can't get gear from killing bosses, but it's completely different from WoW. There, raiding was the only way to get stuff, here, the end game is PvP (sieges).
Getting high end equipment is a cakewalk in WoW (and yes, I did all the content up to and including BWL) compared to here.
Im pretty sure B grade and up you cant buy from NPC stores.
That means B grade, A grade and S grade.
You have three options to get your equipement:
1- Craft it! Im not to familiar with WOW but I think my freind mentioned there is nothing similar to Lineage 2 crafting in that game. When hunting mobs in Lineage 2, mobs will drop basic crafting materials and you can alost use the manor system to get mats. You can get receipes from drops (B grade) and quests but most commonly you buy them from another player with a sell shop. You must gather up all the necessary materials and a receipe and go see a dwarf in town that can craft it for you for a fee.
2- Raids. Ifyou join a big clan /ally chances are you will be doing raids. Various items of all grades drop form Raid Bosses depending on their lvl. EDIT: Dot expect to get all your gear using this method. If your very lucky and you clan loves you , you might get something.
3- Buy it ! You can always buy your equipment from player sell shops. Plenty on town, probably the most expensive way to get your equip but its what most lazy people do that have lots of cash to spend or dont have the time to start crafting
There is crafting in WoW. The difference is that the most desirable equipment there is (in general) not crafted. Here, crafting is the only reliable way to get equipment.
Yep. Last night we did 3 raid bosses, 4 that I was on for during the week. They dropped ZERO full items. One dropped nothing at all. Another dropped one item, a B EAA. The rest dropped a stack of S weapon and armor PARTS. Good times.

High end items are very hard to get.
You "could" raid and many clans, alliances do this. Most people craft their items by gathering materials and finding a dwarf crafting shop or going to a dwarf who has the recipe and then he sets up the shop.
Certain items are very hard to get such as high end recipes, some mats and of course the elusive lvl 12 Soul Crystals for the high end Special Abilites. Those you have to Raid the top Raid bosses for. Or buy them from people. They are very very expensive.
And yes, the end game in Lineage 2 is more PvP oriented.
C,B,A,S grade items can not be bought from NPC stores.
They are crafted by Dwarfs & or you can buy them in a private store...
You need to collect materials to craft this stuff! GL :)
Just to clarify, you'll probably begin resorting to crafting and player shops as early as D or C grade. The stores only sell up to the 2nd best D grade equipment. You can obtain some equipment at this level through the Seven Signs event (you can read up on that on this site), and also through a special shop in which you can exchange crystals (used in crafting) for C grade equipment.
Once you're into B grade it's all monster drops and crafting. However, in L2 monsters don't drop equipment that you need at your level, they drop equipment for levels much lower than you currently are. Because of that it's all about the crafting game.
Fortunately you don't actually have to make a dwarf and craft things yourself, due to a dwarven ability to set up an AFK craft shop and let players craft the equipment they need by bringing all the necessary materials. The hard part is finding the right dwarf with the right recipe. You of course also have to pay a fee set by the dwarf. Collecting materials is also quite a job, though buying the components you're missing and crafting an item yourself is generally much cheaper than just purchasing the full item.
If you expect to be able to afford gear of a new grade immediately upon being able to wear that grade, you'll probably be disappointed. It is very difficult to make money in L2 and it's not uncommon to buy your C grade equipment just when you gain the ability to wear B. That said, you'll also be quite capable of leveling with lower end gear as long as you maintain a half decent weapon and pick your hunting spots wisely.
Thanks for all the replies. So it seems to me that getting items are just constant farming and grinding, which I don't mind.
How does raiding end game bosses work in L2? In WoW, it was a pain, even in a top tier guild to get 39 people up without setting a pre-determined day and schedule for it. As far as I know, items and adena just drop from mobs like in diablo 2 and pretty much up for grabs by anyone.

Buying B grade items is usually just barely possible for most new players when they reach the end of the grade, but A grade can be exceptionally difficult. S grade, on the other hand, is very much out of the question if this is your first character, unless you are very, very fortunate. Farming and grinding won't get you much; the best way to make money is by working the market. Start watching item prices now. Buy cheap and sell low. And if dig up any consumables in your adventures, don't let their allure tempt you. Sell anything you can do without.

End-game raiding is virtually impossible on many L2 official servers. The reason for this is that farmers make their homes here; they farm these bosses so that they can keep all the drops to themselves, selling them and then selling the currency they earn from the items for real life money. This is a horrible practice IMO as it takes the bosses away from the normal players, but if it's items you're worried about, don't sweat this. The raid bosses, for the average player, are mostly for fun and leveling (although, unless your group is extremely organized, you won't level any faster on bosses than you will by just grinding). In other words, raid bosses here are just a break from the norm. The real end-game is PvP, where you're more likely to lose experience (and possibly items, if you're a very bad boy).
There are a two kinds of raid bosses in L2. There are the Dragons, Antharas and Valakas, as well as three other major bosses (Orfen, The Ant Queen and The Core). Those raids take huge amounts of coordination and huge numbers of people. I don't know the spawn timer on these but since we have no instances, they are only 1 at a time when they do spawn.
Then you have your other raid bosses of which there are a ton. These bosses take varying amounts to kill (from one group on the level 20 and 30s to several groups for the high level ones).
The real end game in L2 is castle sieges. Those are scheduled and you can find the schedule here:

Actually, just to clarify, you can get some C grade items from an NPC Shop. They can be bought for set amounts of C and D crystals from the Luxury Shop in Giran (though I think it's called something else now... "Lord and Taylor" or something like that).

I think it's the "Giran Gap" now or some **** thing.

That would explain those **** kids swing dancing out in front of it.

Just tell them to "Get off my lawn!" like I always do. Meddling kids...
Speaking of that shop, I've got something like 12k D crystals I need to do something with. Perhaps I'll make a Homu sword (or 2) since they seem to be all the rage. Before anyone says anything, yes I know you can't make one there so shut up.

You could always give them to innocent Light Elves you have mercilessly murdered. Especially if they are named "Jute".
