exchange item question

A newbie characte up till level 25 hat the option to exchange items for a better one by visiting traders.
As far as I know the best item (weapon) one can buy from an NPC ist the second best D-grade.
My question is: is a nwebie character able to exchange a second-best D-grade weapon for a top D, and if yes then is it possible to do the same with C, B, A grades?
I think that the Item Exchange is only applicable to NG stuff.
a bit dissapointing, but thanks for the info
But you can upgrade at blacksmith of mammon for ancient adena (seal stones dropped in catacombs and necropolises can be exchanged for ancient adena at the dusk/dawn priest/ess if you're on the winning side).
Mamon blacksmith works for most regular D-C weapons you can find in stores and those of equal crystal value. Demon Fangs is an exception (not upgradable, not exchangeable).
You can only upgrade NG weapons as newbie character. Up to top NG.
But top NG weapon can't be traded for another one or upgraded. You have to sell it if you want an "upgrade".
I thought I would chime in here. im looking for a particular weapon and cannot find it. I was told I could do a trade-in at the blacksmith of mammon but im not sure how to do this.

Im looking for an Atuba Mace. Its a 2h blunt weapon, Top-D. I was told I could buy a tabar and upgrade to this weapon. I was also told I could use a bonebreaker.

Im confused as to why I would trade in a bonebreaker as opposed to a tabar considering theres about a 2m adena difference? Would the bonebreaker let me just trade for the Atuba Mace without using ancient adena?

in a nutshell, what should I do to get the Atuba Mace (ie. whats the cheapest or hassle free way)? I havnt visited the blacksmith yet, can I find this out without having any of those weapons in my inventory to trade by talking to him?

If you used a tarbar, you would have to upgrade it, using ancient adena, at mammon (and would lose any enchantments). If you used a bonebreaker, you could trade it straight across for free (they have the same crystal count). Also, if the bonebreaker was enchanted, the atuba would be as well.
ahhh.. I see! (I think!)
so knowing this i would probably be better off swapping a bonebreaker for it

couple more questions. I heard the blacksmith changes his location? if this is true, how often does he change locations and how do you locate him? Also, how do you find out the crystal count of your gear? Is this available at the smithy?

(sorry, but im at work and the only thing I can view are these forums due to "websense" blocking everything else)

It depends. Do you have lots of AA? Then it's cheaper to upgrade at mammon. If not it may be easier to just buy a top D weapon and exchange it.

I believe it is every 30 minutes (and there are 2 of him). Listen to hero chat. Sometimes they will let you know where he is (when they're not being morons, which is rare).

The Library here has the crystal count for each weapon. Yeah, I know you can't get to it but it's there.
thanks a lot for clarifying all this for me sir E

cheers!
sorry, another Exchange question.

I was told the blacksmith isnt around during the event. Im assuming this is the seal event. So is the only time he's around is on Saturdays and Sundays?

I dont need to be on the winning side to use him do I? Do I need to be sided at all?
You need to be signed up for the winning side to see the blacksmith. He appears in the weeks when you cant sign up for the competition.
