Hello all, yet another new player. Right now I'm a day or two into the free 14 day trial that came with City of Villains, and so far I'm really enjoying the game. I do have a few questions that I haven't been able to find the answers to.

I've noticed guards won't help you if you're being chased/attacked by a mob. Will a mob eventually stop following you? I had an orc chase me all the way into town before finally killing me yesterday.

A friend and I were in a party and were doing the quest to gather 40 wolf pelts. We noticed that only the person who made the killing blow would receive a pelt, even though both received xp, adena, and SP. Is there a way to change this or is that just how it is? It seems like an obnoxious way to cooperatively complete a quest.

I can't figure out how the exchange thing works at all. I've bought the cheapest gloves, boots, etc, but I can't figure out how to upgrade or exchange them or whatever I'm supposed to be able to do.

I'm currently a level 9 Human Mystic. So far I've upgraded wind strike to level 3. I don't know what other spells I should go for. Are the buff spells useful? It says improves by p.1 or something. The numbers in the game don't really mean anything to be at this point, so I don't know if that is good or not. Or if it's worth holding out for better spells that become available somewhere else...

That's it for now, I'm sure I'll come up with more later. Thanks in advance. :)
hi, and welcome.

about the mob chase, yes the mobs will eventyually stop hunt you, althou it might take some time.

nope, its not possible to split the quest items, only the person doing killin blow (like you said) gets the item

ive never used the exchange system myself, so i cant help you at that point

about the spells, it depends.. are you going for the healing/buffing classes?? or are you out for a nuker class that can tear thrue mobs like a knife cuts paper?? althou, i can recomend not to waste SP on the ice bolt spell, get curse: poison its really handy later on ;)

Edit: i hope that answered some of your questions :p
Just to clarify, there are some quests such as that wolf pelt one where the only person who obtains the quest item is the one that gets the killing blow. These are solo quests, but there also exist party quests in which anyone in the party can get a quest item regardless of who delivers the finishing blow. You can tell which is which by going to the quest menu and looking for an icon of a solo person or a pair of people respectively.

Basically, you only have to deal with that annoyance on certain quests.

Yes as long as you stop attacking them and just run mobs will eventually sop attacking you, first they slow down, then they will stop.

Most quests in Lineage II are solo quests, meaning either the person in the party with the killing blow will get the quest item or even sometimes you can only get a quest item when you are out of party and no-one else is doing anything to the mob (doing dmg, cursing it etc.). There are party quests later in the game which means aslong as a party member gets the killing blow you will get quest item (eventually).

However most quests 1-20 are fairly easy to do alone and you don't need to party very often. If you are doing a particularly hard quest you can party, it is often not that hard to let 1 person get the last kill everytime (especially since you are a mage and do consisten dmg) untill he or she has all the quest items and then turn it around.

You have to unequip the wepon or armor you want to upgrade (dont upgrade your weapon too much since you will get a weapon from the lvl 10-11 weapon quests, which you can upgrade aswell) before it will show up in the menu for upgrading.

Your first priority is your direct dmg doing nukes, first windstrike, then icebolt (you can buy spellbooks for these skills in the church) and after lvl 14 Vampiric touch depending how usefull you think it is. After that I would suggest weapon masteries or the normal heals, depending how much your friend needs those heals. I would not get Might or shield because after lvl 10 you and your friend will get more and more new player buffs from the newbie guide including shield for you and might & shield for fighters. Also forget about curse poison, useless.
After that get cure poison, Anti-magic and Armor masteries.

No matter what class you are going after lvl 20, before 20 your major dmg nukes are the most important, then your normal/battle heals or your weapon masteries depending on your situation and then everything else.
To exchange an item, go to the NPC that sells that item. The only trick is that the item you wish to exchange must be in your inventory and not be equipt on your character.

To un-equip an item, open your Inventory screen, and look at the boxes on the top. It shows what items you have equipted. You can double left click to unequipt them, or left click and hold and drag them to your inventory boxes below the character boxes.

Then, click the NPC to start a conversation, but look for an option near the bottom of the first screen that says, "Exchange an item" or something like that. Select that one, and it will ask you which item you wish to exchange and for what.

To exchange an item, go to the NPC that sells that item.

Actually, you can use any NPC that buys/sells. If it has the "exchange" option, you're golden. I've exchanged weapons at the jewelry shop, for example.

PS. What server are you on?
Wow, great responses, thanks very much everyone. I never expected that many quality responses in that short of a time. It speaks well of the community.

We started on Kain, only because it was Light population with low ping at the time.

A couple more quick and easy questions... :)

Is there a /who type command to check if someone is online, and if so, where they are? Also, is there a way to see what level/class another player is? Or inspect them to see what equipment they are wearing?

Again, thanks for all the help everyone, you guys rock.
Best way to keep track of people who are online is to add them to your /friendlist. I believe /friendlist add charname is the command for it, though you might be able to do it through the community tab as well. It won't give their location but you'll be able to check their online status.

There is no way to see another player's level, other than asking them of course. As most gear in L2 has a unique appearence, you'll eventually be able to recognize the relative strength of a character based on what they're wearing. You'll never be able to see jewelry however. Recognizing the class of a player is something you'll also pick up on based on their behavior and equipment.
Actually, the command to put someone in your "Friends List" is :
/friendinvite nameofcharacter
Then you can click on the little hammer icon, then on "Community", then "Friends", and you'll see who's online.
You'll also hear a little "ding" when one of your friends logs in !
