Hi, im a level 24 palus knight atm and planning to be a BD. I'm using a falcion(sp?) and some shield with 101? def. Right now, my damage output doesn't seem to be all that great. Even with soulshots, it takes a while to kill a equal lvl or green mob.
Should I get a grade D weapon and continue using a one hander/shield? If so, what should I get that would last me? Or should I get some dual swords since I'll be a BD anyways.
I have a palus knight and am using an elven long sword and shield. I didn't think there was too much sense getting duals until 40. What server are you on?
If you are a sword wielder, save up for an elven long sword, and a Brigandine shield. Also, are you using special attacks?
Think on it this way, you are using level 20 weapons, against things 4-6 levels higher. It is just going to be common sense that they wont do as much damage as something rated at level 25 or so. (No, there arent CL 25 cert weps, but there are weps that deal damage like CL 25 mobs)
personally get scallops jahams there like duals BUT high pattack wtf? for d grade if u plan on useing duals dont use fists
Fist weapons suck. They crit even less than the Blunt weapons. So unless you're a Monk/tyrant, why gimp your toon even more by using Fists?
Use a sword or two. A 2 handed sword would work even better for you pre-40.
Cheapest route to go would be to get a one handed Sword (D Grade) then once you reached L40 you could dual that sword with another D grade sword for a lower end C grade Dual Sword. Once you have a C grade dual you could just use the Blacksmith of Mammon to upgrade that dual to Top C duals if you can afford the AA fees.
For sub L40 the D grade duals aren't that much stronger than the other D grade options. A 2 handed sword would be slightly better for equal/better patk though. For leveling purposes, 107 Duals (D grade) will work just fine. I went Shillien Knight, but the Duals worked fine Pre-L40.
You deciding factor will be what you can afford. Will you be using the pre-40 equip to make your Post-40 weapon? Or will you just be trading/selling the D grade stuff away? Will you go straight for some Luxury shop swords and dual those or will you use Mammon to upgrade one or the other swords/duals?
Finally....Get used to the sub-par damage. From here on out melee starts getting the short end of the stick when it comes to attack power. You'll see a bit of a boost yet for D/C grade but by the time you hit B grade the difference isn't terribly noticable. The dances you get later will be more of a boost than just a few extra patk you get from a small bump in equipment.
Oh, and if you plan to use Mammon to upgrade anything avoid the enchants and SA's. Mammon won't keep enchants when upgrading and won't touch a weapon with a SA on it.
Krissa has good advice. What you use will depend on your role. Do you party with people and tank a lot? Do you do raid bosses? Do you solo? Do you have a healer/buffer with you?
dont worry bout duals. Ive played the same path you're going. Youd be better off buying a claymore if you want high damaging blows. you lose a power attack if you use duals. it may save you some ssd by using the power attack instead of x3 ssd
actually, someone above me made a great suggestion. To buy a 1h and a shield (brigadine shield with a brig set ideally). A good 1h would be an elven longsword or sword of revolution.
then as he suggested once you hit 40 dual those, and upgrade if you can/want at the mammon. if you go this route, dont buy a sword thats enchanted or enchant it.
Something else to consider. On my server at least dual 107's are half as expensive as an elven long sword/claymore. Less than 2 million for 107's and you can make them yourself. 3.8-4 million for ELS on Lionna. Maybe your server isn't as harsh though.
I would use the weapon that match your weapon mastery passive skill. Sometimes you hear about people using alternatives, but you will get some pitfalls on it. Elven Long Sword is the best option if you can afford that.
Only reason for the high ELS/other top C-grade weapons if that the bots are getting locked out of the catacombs because the server keeps flippings dawn/dusk
Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I'll stick with a one hander/shield until 40. I'm planning to solo my way until 40 and then start partying as a BD. I have about 7.2 mil adena, if that's enough for an elven long sword.
I'm still new to this game but who/what is Mammon? And where can i find Mammon? Also, I see that the els can be crafted, how can i find elven long sword blades?
Yes, as a Pallus Knight you should use an Elven Long Sword and a shield. If you can afford a full brig set including the helmet, use a brig shield. Otherwise, use plate. This route will let you play a tank in parties, which is the role a Pallus Knight is designed to play.
That's plenty for an elven long sword. I'd take a look at the prices on your server for Ancient Adena. Then I'd take a look at the cost of a Sword of Revolution from Giran. Lastly I'd look at what people are selling Elven Longswords for.
To upgrade an Sword of Revolution to an Elven Longsword will take 480,000 AA.
On my server (Erica) AA goes for about 3 adena each. that means that 480,000 AA is worth 1,440,000 regular adena. On Erica, you can purchase a Sword of Revolution from the Giran shop for 1.75 million adena. That means if, on Erica, you can find an Elven Longsword for sale for less than 3,190,000 it's cheaper than you can do it yourself. You also have to factor in the time it takes to do the swap (time you aren't grinding earning more adena), etc.
