When will the blacksmith of mammon show up and how long will he remain on the server until hes gone again? He is gone during the seal tournament, correct? So does this mean he will be back on Monday and remain on the server until the next seal event starts? (which is how long after that?)
I currently belong to dusk on my server. I have chosen the seal of Gnosis to have access to the Blacksmith. If Dusk doesnt retrieve the seal of Gnosis, will there be no blacksmith? Im not sure I understand what this means, to find the seals and how they relate to what players have access to.
what if my character just signed up, but hasnt participated? ie, found no stones or anything. honestly, this toon is an alt and I just wanted to trade in a weapon at the blacksmith and it hasnt been playing much
The Mammons (Merchant and Blacksmith) always appear during the "reward" period of the 7 seals quest, that is when it is not possible to sign up, and when the blessing/curses are dealt to the winned/losers by preachers in towns. The "reward" period and the "event" period both last for 1 week, from monday to monday.
They move randomly from catacomb to catacomb (blacksmith) and from necropoli to necropoli (merchant), they usually stay in one spot for 30 min - 2 hrs. There are ALWAYS 2 MERCHANTS AND 2 BLACKSMITHS at the same time.
If you sign up with Dusk during the event period, and the Dusk wins the quest, you are allowed to enter necropolis and catacombs, and so rech the blacksmith/mearchant. The seal you're fighting for is not important, the only important thing is the faction. If you're on the losing faction, you wont be able to enter cata/necro, so you wont reach merchant/blacksmith.
The Blacksmith (and the Trader) appear during the 'validation' week. This is the week (Monday to Monday) leading up to your server's seige-weekend. On Lionna, this is your 'competition' week, so no Blacksmith until next Monday, after 6:30 pm CST.
The Blacksmith will appear in the Catacombs during the validation week only if the winning side (Dusk or Dawn) has possession of the Seal of Gnosis. IF the at least 35% of the folks who competed in the competition week picked that seal when they signed up, that side will 'possess' the seal. (If the winning side repeats, and had the seal last time, only 10% need to have picked it.)
If you are on the winning side, you can use the blacksmith if he appears even if you didn't pick Gnosis, even if you did not contribute any seal stones. But...
The use the Blacksmith, you will need Ancient Adena (AA.) You get that by turning in seal stones to the Priest/Priestess. While you can turn in during both weeks, you only get AA if your side wins. Note, only the winning side can turn in sealstone during the 'validation' week.
Many folks sell seal stones and AA near the Priest/Priestess. So, you dont HAVE to have obtained the AA yourself, you can buy what you need.

What about the stones gathered, is it better to "contribute" them (and then gain a bonus in ancient adenas), or to "exchange" them for ancient adenas to the Priest?

Kaythalana summed it up nicely, however one small thing about the seal. It does become important because it's possible to 'win' and not break one of the seals. Thus, you could be on the winning side but still have no Blacksmith or Merchant of Mammon because that seal did not have enough people fighting for it.

Blacksmith of mammon exchanges equal-crystal D and C grade weapons for free. He also upgrades weapons for a fee of ancient adena (up to top C grade); however, if you upgrade a weapon, all enchantments are lost). Lastly, weapons cannot have an SA to exchange or upgrade and must be unequipped when talking to him.

That is correct and it's free. If you decide to upgrade it, however, no more enchantments. Cheaper to sell top D and buy low C.
Yes you can, however, like I said, I'd bet you'd get a whole lot more adena from that +4 weapon than it would cost to buy a low C weapon. Plus, your C weapon would be +0 if you upgrade to it.
