Too early/late to (re)start?

I read some E3 interviews that NCSoft is going to try to bring in new players. I'm bored with WoW and I'm wondering if I should just wait for the push for new players or should I start now?

How are my specs for the game?
P4 2.8 GHZ
2gigs ram
Geforce FX 5900 Ultra

I know I'm well above the recomended but I heard that this game has some serious performance issues.

Thanks!

and sometimes it just won't like your pc and the game goes on the rag
Greetings,

You should start right now. You're allready 2 years late...

As for your system, you will NOT experience performance issues. It runs smooth on much crappier machines than that...

Welcome to L2. Watch out for scammers ! If you wanna make some friends fast, create an Orc on Kain...

Have Fun ! ™

Pretty much anytime is a good time to start. With the newbie buffs in place you can solo through your first class in no time and start meeting the mid level players.

You shouldn't have any trouble running the game, as I'm running on slightly higher specs and haven't had any slowdown since I began. Lag of course is a different monster entirely, but with a decent connection it shouldn't be too bad as long as you pick a server with decent ping.

Edit: Kain is a good place to start if the ping matches, some newbie fun is going on right now courtesy of our resident Devil.

the game is wanderfull as long as you cna get past farmers(every game has them), the market, and lag.

your system is fine, from what I can tell...L2 is still having a memory leak ever since C4 has been into duced to us.
I'm useing 512 ram, and I deffenetly feel like I need a up grade.

If you can make good friends then you'll do fine, carefull of scammers, and never tell your PW to any one.

It's not too late to start, but if you don't have a lot of time to devote it will be a waste, My ppoint of view: find a class you like and play that class and only that one toon till your high lvl, don't waste your time on alts!

I just recently moved from erica to kain, and I love it... much nicer environment then erica is by far. but there is still alot of jerks around, try not to let them get the best of you, this is open PvP game, you can get pked, don't let that stop you.

Last thing to know, This is a grind game, be prepared to grind alot, and hard core if you ever want to hit 75...just ask elliebelly or sovorath what I meen!(they are players on the boards)
I don't mind a grind. I played WoW and it's way too easy. Someone told me that the grind in L2 and FFXI are about the same but L2 has a much better UI. So, I'm playing L2.

Plus, I like the art style and just got done spending a year in China and the game is popular over there. A lot of my friends play there. Too bad we cannot play on the same servers.
what server will you be playing here?

what class/race?
L2's is a much more harsh grind than FFXI. It also doesn't force you to party once you reach a certain level, it's feasible (though not reccomended with many classes) to solo all the way to max level in L2. I could go on forever about why L2 is a better game but I'll let you see that for yourself.

Still patching. I bought the Collectors DVD and a game card today.

One more question: This paper model looks very complicated to build, is it worth the effort?

Well, the interact in FFXI is horrible, I couldn't get to the grind. If I spend a few hours every night (on avg) should I be fine?

Also, with new chronicles do more newbies come to play?
You'll likely see a boost in newbies with each chronicle, there's a steady trickle of them during other times as well. The way L2 is designed right now you're able to boost through the early levels much faster than when the game started 2 years ago, so you'll find yourself alongside the mid level players much faster. This is done through an NPC which buffs your character through levels 1-20, and new quests allow starting players to obtain gear easily.

You'll probably be satisfied with your progress if you only play a few hours a night. Once you hit the 60s and 70s however you should expect levels to come in days or weeks rather than hours with a playstyle like that. If you enjoy the class you play and meet a good group of friends you'll be content no matter what level you are, but you really have to put in some time to hit that max level.

Yes, it seems that more new players come with each chronicle.

However, you won't really have to worry about that becasue when C5 hits you will be well on your way. Get to lvl 20 and head to Dion. That is where the most 20+ players are.

Think of it this way. If there were a lot more players in the new player areas then there would be more high lvl pk'ers. Now you can just lvl to your first class change unmolested.

My point of view: find a class you like and play that class and only that one toon till your high lvl, don't waste your time on alts!

Alts aren't necessarily a bad thing. Sure, given a limited amount of playing time, playing various alts means that it will take you forever to reach the higher levels. But playing alts also assures you of learning the game from different class perspectives. At least in my case, having alts is a reflection of my enthusiasm for the game. Each character brings something different to the table, and that makes the game seem less of a grind.
In the future I am taking a differant approach to this question...

If I am thinking about joining a ongoing game I will be watching the financial state of the gamecompany. Remember that any game can start as a hype and then dwindle.

So here is my link for you. You desite what you will do next.

That is a bleak world you live in. Personally I choose a game based on how much fun it offers. The only thing that would matter to me is if the entire company was about to go under, and stock fluctuations are certainly no evidence of that. Particularly when you consider that NC has many games other than L2.

Edit: I'm not exactly sure how you perceive the problem, but I can explain the way I see it. When I read your post, a scenario such as this comes to mind.

Mary: Hey Steve, you really gotta try this ice cream! It's fantastic!
Steve: One sec Mary...
*goes to check stock on the ice cream company in question*
Steve: You know what Mary, their stock is looking a little shady this month. I think I'm going to have to pass.

I don't get it, exactly what is your point with looking at financial info to play games? In fact, who the hell looks at a company's financial situation before playing? You try it and if you like it you play. Its that simple. Its not rocket science..geebus.

Indeed that is the only way to decide playing a game.

Besides stock changes don't say much about a company. It only says that investers dont get umpteenth millions out of it, that they dont get more money from a company then last year. They still could make loads of profits but being the greedy sort they are, having a company making a good profit aint enough for them.

Once you go to the stockmarket it is not you who runs the company, it is the whim of easily frigthened nervous human flotsamswho only care about one thing that are at the helm. It is the worst thing that can happen to a good company.
So Darkmotion, did you totally reroll on Kain? Or is it more or less a thing where you are just doing an event?

Well if you are on kain and plan to stay, welcome... If not, well then enjoy ur time.
When I decide on a game I do it on the whim of friends/reviews but allso financial reports.

Let me explain:
I once was part of a now dead game.. I loved that game even tho I started there without friends telling me to do so "as it was so great" or even without reading reviews

Unfortunalty after the company started to loose income on that game first cut-backs were done, exspantions were delayed and at the end they stop the game way before the end of the story.
In my experiance so far it seems to be a trend that if the game financial fail it stops. A strong report however seems to indicate that the game would be more likely to stay the distance.

So having seen that in the past I now will have a look at the company itself (especially when it comes to MMORPG's when the soul incomes comes from that MMORPG). In fact it is my believe that if I like a game and it is allready running for some time and the stock-records are good the likelyhood of being able to play more then 3 years is somewhat garantied. Especially if the gameplay is evolved over longer time (unlike standalone (expentionless) games that will never evolve ) where a long time commitment is needed.

That's just me tho.

BTW this may look all crime and doomy however I am allso the kind of guy that will stick it out till the end (being a L2-funky) unless some major new game is intruduced or if my financial background fails.
L2 is a great game. But it's a hard game. But compared to before it is a lot easier now to get gear and level. Basically if you play 1-2 days hardcore as a newbie you can get to lvl 20 and acquire top no grade items no grade is 1-20 d grade 20-40 and c grade 40-52 b grade 52-61 a grade 61-76 76-78 s grade. 78 is currently max lvl and 80 will be max in c5.

Anyhow. The newbie system lets you upgrade each of your items from lowest no grade to top ng. Basically no sell and rebuy etc. Very easy and clever system. Secondly starting at lvl 8 you get buffs up to lvl 25 that helps you level. The buffs finish at lvl 15 and then after that you start losing buffs again until 23 you are left with the first buff you had. Windwalk.. basically a run speed boost.

Anyhow getting to 20 and having top no grade won't be that hard. However after that it's gonna be a pain to get new gear. My advice is to check through quests and ask players what quests generates money. If you can, try to buy seeds from manor lords. Plant them on mobs, harvest the seeds. And go sell to the manor lord again before he buys up his entire stock.

There are other quests but also leveling exclusively in catacombs has its ups. You can upgrade WEAPONS. Only weapons from low d grade to top C grade.

Armors and jewels you will need to buy normally.

That's all I can think of as starter advice.
to save cash dont use soulshot or spiritshot, they help you lvl faster but they just a money pit...if you have the cash to blow then go ahead and use it...if teh mob is dark red to you it is very high lvl compared to your lvl...dark blue very low lvl to you...white is withn 3 lvls of you

I don't think you have anything t worry about regarding NC Soft.

Stocks go up and down all the time. Even with NC's current layoffs, which they were just because these people were on board for the launching of several games and no longer needed now.

In my company, contractors are let go all the time because they are no longer needed on a certain project.

As far as the stocks go, you can have a company that is completely financially healthy and make a profit per share but because that profit is not in line with what was predicted their stocks can go down.

What you want to do when looking at a company is see what they have in the pipeline, see if they have debt See how well their games are doing over the long haul, etc.

As we know, there are several games from other companies that are scheduled for beta very soon. Some of these games are going to give Lineage 2 a run for their money. But this happens all the time. Many people left for WoW and even some for EQ2 but many also came back.

One thing I've learned from playing these online games (and I apologize for offending anyone with this) is that many people who play online games are fickle, hardheaded, whiny as all hell, demanding; sometimes in the most unfair ways, and generally like to stir up drama.

I mean, come on! If a game is not to your liking, do something else. Even write a letter to the game company letting them know of your displeasure. But to see players come a forum and posting their "last post", a sort of manifesto, essentially ripping the game company a new one because not all was to their liking and they are ****** and hope that the company essentially burns in hell; well, that just speaks of drama for drama's sake.

If I don't like a type of detergent I just write a letter to the company. I don't go into all the houses of everyone who bought it and express my disgust to them! Who cares.

So, even if their is another mass exodus of players, many of them will be back because the game they left for just didn't do it for them, was not what it was supposed to be, etc.

Though it is good that you are a long haul guy. I am like you. I am going to stick to L2 until it is no longer fun at all, or another game comes along that is much more to my liking.

Playing a game like L2 really has taught me a lot. I've now tried out most of the popular offerings out there and I can tell you that they all have issues, they all have people who cheat, they all have their detractors.

I've written too much already and lvl 75 is not going to happen by itself (because that would be against the EULA :p )

While I agree with the message of your post, I would like to point out that there is in fact a differnce between liking a companies product and liking thier customer service ( or vise - versa ). You may love one, but can hate the other.

Just my thoughts.

Look at Lineage 1. That old game from NCSOFT is STILL supported and there are still patches and new stuff being added to it as well. I think Lineage 2 is gonna be around for quite a while. Years before any sort of worrying about it being shelved.

They did say that their intent was to run L1, L2 and L3 simultaneoulsy. I think they feel that all 3 games will be different enough to keep them all going.
Frankly I hope the game does go the distance, I really do.

However I am a practical man too.
Some-one asked us if the game is still good to continue or to start. Well, I gave my view. It's my advice to be carefull to make a commitment as you will have to commit to this game.
The game is slated for the long run and you should be willing to do just that.

I see this game like a emtpy field I can sow. I can get a good harvest if the weather is good, the furtiliger is just used in the right way. For those that have the patience the harvest could be grand. If you want a quick harvest that's possible too tho you may have to use shady dealing like DNA-manipultaion to get the crops to grow faster. That kind of harvest can be a bad harvest in the end.
So you the player are the farmers and you will have that empty field in front of you. To me if I think that field is a good patch I am willing to get a loan at the bank for it. That's all.

I leave it to those thinking about starting this game to make up their own mind nothing else.
I'd advise any1 thinking about switching to L2, to do so, it's a fun game :) just need to clean all the grime and dirt out of it *cough*

i dont think it does you know. I created a mess arround toon on bartz before the noobie stuff came out and when it came out i still couldn't access it on that toon (it was lvl 8 i think.)

If you start a new character on a new server you are entitled to the newbie buffs and shots.

Well, I wasn't around for beta, only prelude. however, I can access some of the noob stuff (like exchanging weapons) on this toon and it was around before all that noob stuff happened.
My Char created in OBeta on Erica still recives the Newbee Buffs.
