We hope you enjoyed blowing stuff up and playing with fire! Please place your votes below and reply in this thread with specific comments to let us know what you thought about this event. Thank you!
Thanks for the poll, Mistryl. Though I gotta ask, why no questions about the actual content of the event itself? Like story, content, rewards, challenge, etc.
After each event, the same basic questions are asked to gather consistent data and feedback. It's the replies in the thread that I hope would cover specific things like story and rewards. (Otherwise, there would be something like 20 questions in that poll!) We do want to hear all about those things, and that type of feedback is invaluable.
Honestly, they just took up more much needed inventory space. The large fireworks are nice, but ill probably just give them to some new guy to play with some time down the road. All in all im more interested in events that help to create more personal wealth, although events like this arnt unwelcomed. Im just not interested in props. Same reason i dont own any masks/pins/ears.
For this type of event, there's not really a reward so I would have liked to see the drop rate on the stuff be much much higher. I hunted a lot and still only made about 30 large fire works.
I collected up pieces of stuff that had a high enough drop rate to make it fun to gather, but low enough drop rate that made selling the fireworks profitable.
I liked this event, even if i would have liked an event that made me richer i realy enjoy these non profit events alot.. Maybe its the roleplayer in me :)
Ok, hehe, I actually answered "Not aware of the event" before I realized what it was talking about. Im used to thinking of events like a server-wide quest, a battle against a giant mob of sorts, or town invasion.
Just a habit I guess.
But I enjoyed this "event", the main reason - selling the fireworks that I don't need for enough adena to give me virtually free Soulshots for two weeks - that's awesome.
Plus, loot drop being so little, Im just happy to get ANYTHING extra off a mob. I don't care if they drop lint from their pockets, I just like finding SOMETHING.
So...yeah, I liked it!
Even though, officially I wasn't aware of it.
It's hard to complain too much when the event is simply added to the normal grind. However I would have liked to see the drop rate greatly increased.
Keeping a low drop rate is understandable when it's a reward based event, but this one was supposed to be just for fun. It's hard to 'light up the sky' when you're only getting a few fireworks per hunt. You might as well go all out with the drop rate when it's an item with no utility.
I like almost any event, rewarded or not, if it can makes me change a bit from the usual grinding, well this one was while grinding but still enjoyable.
If I had something negative to say, and I have, is that the fire works are not really much interesting to watch. I am not designer or programmer but I can guess it would not be so easy to make something really beautiful and impressive, still I would have highly appreciated hard to gather materials for making a big firework which would have keep fireing for some minutes, high enough in the sky for being watched from a distant place. (Now imagine an ally farms it and pops fire works all other Heine or Aden in the night sky)
This, coupled with a more technical way to gather mats, better than luck only, maybe some event mobs or something like that, for allowing peoples who want to participate to the event feeling like participing in the event while grinding. (and looking after those event mobs)
My main complaint would be loot. We should have been rewarded for creating a firework. I mean exploding one without loot is fun... once.
I thought it was all a bit out of story. We live in a world full of death, war and hate. Yet were expected to collect firework parts, give them to some oversized cat, take our time to fire the fireworks, so that some guy can get his girl? Pfft, I think freeing the world of evil is a more pressing engagement thanks!
On the positive side..
I think its great that this event was open to all. You didnt have to play at certain times, waiting for spawns or anything like that. You didnt have to get a team and wait at a certain spot if you didnt want too etc..
I agree. I just also think a few more subjects should be covered to give a more realistic basis to evaluate the quests on, I don't think you need to ask all that many questions, just "Did you like the story line", "Did you feel the event was rewarding? (answers about wether it was rewarding in fun, rewards, etc. or none of them) and such.
But in any even thanks for the poll :)
My feedback on the event was that it was great preperationwise, the story was good, the team got the mechanics down right and the time it lasted was good. The downsides is that by having bad events rewardwise, it makes these kinds of events feel even worse (kinda like a cookie will be better if you haven't been starved all day), the droprates could have been higher as well.
was it long enough, yes or no; if no how long should it be.
how was the drop rate: high, just right, or too low?
how was the reword?
where you too bessy with sieges to part take, or other things like clan management.
where you forwarned soon enough for the event? (to get ready)
These are the type of questions that should be asked, your questions aren't very filling, or kind of force you to say one thing or the other. (too limiting)
This event is one of those that while you where out lvling you got drop items, kind of makes you part take in it, yet doesn't meen you liked it. or where able to.
I personally didn't care much for the event.
I want to see greatter compressed SS/sps/Bsps, as drop items or event prises.
One of the hardest things on peoples pocket books is SS/bsps.
I also think that EW's need to be event prises, the market is vastly over riden with high price items, I think boss jwellery, and Rec's should be as a choose. IE: say you collect 1,500 medals for any top B weapon rec, or 2,500 for any A armor rec..so on.
I have accepted that this event was for others, and not necessarily for my personal enjoyment. I imagine there is a segment of the L2 community that thoroughly enjoyed this event. I just don't happen to be one of them.
I have to say that though I'm glad that there was an event like this that was "different" and offered "different" rewards, it wasn't much to my taste and I always threw the event pieces on the ground when I accumulated to much of that.
Having said that, I wonder if the real issue is that for people who do play such a brutal game, if their tastes also tend to bend to more martial type of events.
The Fireworks looked great and I can imagine that many people enjoyed them. But I wonder if this event really fits in more with other more PvE oriented game.
It seems to me that people in this game tend to want more "action" and "loot".
Part of that might also be because the game is a bit mercilous with it's economy and items. Because of this, anything that alleviates a player's economic woes is more desired.
horrible event and a bad poll NCsoft, how much time does it really take to add some more options to the poll to include opinions on loot, then you can save that to the "poll sheet" or what ever you work off of. Just weak I'm sorry to have to be so negative towards the mods and NCsoft itself but the effort put in to pleasing the general populace is crap. I have loved the game for 2 years and play it daily, never gave a care about service during the first year and a half but now I see how bad it is and it is bad, I can't just sit back and stroke Mistyl's ego or any others that mod this board.
The event was nothing more than "ok". If there was a more interesting way of obtaining the fireworks it might have been better but just adding them as an ordinary drop didn't do it for me. Adding event items to the standard drop table only works if there is something profitable to be obtained by it like the pumpkins or the medal's.
I feel a week is good for most loot dropping events. The fact is though I didn;t go oh lookie here I need to devote extra play time to hunt so I can get fireworks. So I chose I that I didn;t participate ont he basis that I hunted in the same are I always hunt and for the same time periods as always. As for the 3 extra invenotry spaces, I gave those things to clannies and let them play with them. Yeah at the end of the event one of my clannies I'd been giving the stuff to gave me 10 large fireworks but theya re sitting in my bank atm. Not to great. I wish it would have been beter reward wise. Recipies of base mats would be a good event type. Much liek the new quests in FOD.
I got my inventory filled up with crap that had zero value to me, or most everyone else it seemed.
My clan has been working on making stage 13 crystals in the rift. Using the rift NPC's to exit is like a quest, so item count in your inventory is a big issue, especially for classes that have lots of consumables to carry. Yah i can throw the crap on the floor or delete it but thats just more useless clicking I have to do before I can go help someone in pvp or restock.
The pumpkin event was great. My clan worked together to produce and smash several large pumpkins. We sold the loot that we didn't need and made lots of money for the clan fund, plus gave money out to those participated.
This event and the christmas events have probably been the worst events I've seen in the past year. Please don't do another like this.
I'll start with the things I liked about this event...
Fireworks are cool.
Now that that's out of the way: This event could have been better.
Since there weren't "event mobs" per say, you really didn't have a choice if you wanted to participate or not. If you wanted to level you'd end up getting the items. I wouldn't have a problem with this IF when in a party of nine and a good drop finnally came along for me and I instead get a -_-ing firecracker and the next person gets: 3000 green seal stones or a A-Grade recipe or EW/A() scroll. >.< -- Yes, all of those happened.
I also felt it was too long (only because the above continued to happen over the course of... 8 days).
I guess that's really the only problem I had with it -- it ruined party play for me for ~1 week. It was a good event for soloing.
1) There weren't enough questions in the poll followiong the event. This isn't really a silly gripe either. It seems ot me I am seeing the same feedback about each event, and the same questions in the polls after each event. And I tend to think that without having more questions to find out why someone chose to say "Would not participate in a similar event", it's really a uselss response. Indeed, the most common gripe is that the events simply have not recently had enough of a reward, which is quite true. I would even go so far as to say this event had no reward, if we are considering reward to mean earning a useful or desired object, though generally it could mean almost anything.
2) The reward was essentially nonexistant. Yes it will be longer lasting than the christmas day event reward (indeed I can't think of anything that wouldn't last longer than the two week christmas trees, EGADS who was the idiot who ordered those trees to be removed from player inventories?), but it wasn't the type of reward most of us were looking for. Even an event that only gives out L2 day scrolls isn't really giving players what they want. Give us A grade 100% helmet recipes, EWAs, BEAAs, BEWAs, basically give us something any L2 player would be buying for their own normal grinding use if they could afford it.
Of course there was probably the thought that since we were getting event items simply by killing mobs during our daily grind we weren't exactly doing any work for them and so didn't deserve them. You couldn't be more wrong. It is actually because normal grinding gives us fewer rewards than we should be earning that causes us to need events to give us the rewards we feel we should have normally been earning for spending hours at a time grinding our [censored] off. The little bit of adena and pitiful number of drops, which when they do drop are never what you need (and this is guaranteed to be the case when drop tables yield items that are one equipment grade below the grade worn by the person killing the mob), and so acquiring the appropriate piece of equipment for your level becomes an impossible action. Hence we see brigadine helmets for 15 million, nightmare helmets for 170 million (you can buy every other item in the set, an A grade weapon, a nightmare shield, A grade jewelery, and still have more money left over for much less than this amount).
3) The story associated with each event is worth tripe in so far as whatever made up and arbitrary setting for each event works just as well as any other potential made up scene would have done, in point of the fact, holding an event without bothering to create any setting at all wouldn't really affect most player's ability to enjoy the event in the slightest.
4) This is not targeted at you NC, but rather a small subset of players. You always say you want an event that isn't about the rewards, but simply about having fun.
But what exactly would a 'just for fun' event look like? How would a 'just for fun' event be anything more than the same event which not only had the element you crafted to bring joy, but also gave rewards to players? And most importantly, since any 'just for fun' event would likely involve killing something, and since this game has an overly harsh death penalty, so that participating in the event now also carries an elevated risk of dying and not only losing experience but a piece of equipment, wouldn't it be possible that since the event does not reward players with anything other than fun (and if everything were as it should be, simply playing L2 should be providing the player with an element of fun by itself), players could actually see themselves having less fun than normal grinding because they are facing the risk of death without any reward for their risk?
After each event, the same basic questions are asked to gather consistent data and feedback. It's the replies in the thread that I hope would cover specific things like story and rewards. (Otherwise, there would be something like 20 questions in that poll!) We do want to hear all about those things, and that type of feedback is invaluable.
So, because the first poll was designed poorly we'll be stuck with it until eternity? Now 'poor' might be pretty hard but in fact you're not even asking for the players opinion!
The only thing players are allowed to rate is the timeframe of the event and quite frankly after having asked that a couple times you should know by now how long ppl prefer events to last.
Asking if ppl participated is well nice, but what does that really say given that everybody had to participate? It's not like i could flip a switch and get rid of all random event drops.
And the last question really gets it backwards. People can think it's the worst event ever and not worth the time at all but still participate next time in it because it's "better then nothing". And even worse, how can you not participate in this event with random drops from every monster anyways?
What are you trying to request with that last question? If ppl liked it? Then be 'man' enough about it and at least ask us for the overall impression we got from your event. And if ppl like it, it should be obvious that they'd participate in it again and that you should do stuff like this again.
And while i'm at it: how are 'reward' and 'story' specific things? They are part of every event - 'rewards' is what most players of this grindfest are interested in and 'story' is something the RP in MMORPG should stand for.
You can give us the possibility to really voice our opinion and get information how events should be in the future but not with the questions you're asking here every time. Far more ppl are voting in a poll then replying here - and which ever opinion will be raised, somebody else will argue against it. I highly doubt you'll get a real impression just from the replies. It should be far from impossible to ask this without resorting to 20 questions.
For example:
* how did you like event (you can also include "didn't have time" and "had something better to do" here)
* what did you think about the rewards
* what do you think about the story behind it (i guess the "don't care" opinion would have quite a lot votes)
* what do you think about this type of event (type as in every monster drops something, special raid boss hunt or item searching etc)
Did i miss anything? I think these are the key features through which ppl define whether or not they like an event and would like to participate in it again. But of course you can't take the poll anymore and state 'see everybody took part and would do so again' - regardless if ppl actually liked it or not.
can't really chose "no" in "would you participate again" question. In this kind of event you participate by going out of town, killing a mob and getting event drop. Can't avoid it unless you hide under a rock for the event's duration.
I didn't really participate in this event except for the fact that I did pick up the stuff that dropped. The story line was over after the announcement. Nothing was doneto cary the story through the event like you did the last event. So basically when stuff started dropping it was just another item in the inventory. I mean even without loot if there had been a purpose for the large fireworks. I dont know what it could have been but im always intertained when im working towards a goal. No real goal here except to make a large firework and set it off.
But what exactly would a 'just for fun' event look like? How would a 'just for fun' event be anything more than the same event which not only had the element you crafted to bring joy, but also gave rewards to players?
There are plenty of things that could be done. For example, sending monsters to invade and take over a town (or more than one). The GMs could control a boss character or monster who would be capable of spawning monster groups, and players could retake the town by killing that special character. If the players are competent enough to take out the GM early, they could repeat the event over and over again throughout a period of a week or so. Towns could be turned into siege or arena zones, and the monsters could give double exp and decent drops to invite participation. Even with normal drops the event would be interesting enough to draw in people. It would be ideal if the GM would pop like a pinata containing certain rare items in the economy. A good background story for the invasion would be easy to write up in a world as violent as L2's, and it would make the players feel like something is actually going on in the world for once.
There's no reason an event can't be fun 'and' rewarding, but I believe the emphasis should be on the fun part. To me, at least, such an event would be worthy of participating in with no reward at all. That said, everything is better with free stuff.
That's the only example I've given a lot of thought to, but there are plenty of other possibilities given that the event team puts some real effort into it. The real question is whether or not the NA team has the resources or the authorization to create an event on that scale. As it's something that has been done in much older MMOs, it would be very disappointing if NC couldn't manage it or something equally as fun.
It was more of a non-event.
The pumpkin event was great. My clan worked together to produce and smash several large pumpkins. We sold the loot that we didn't need and made lots of money for the clan fund, plus gave money out to those participated.
i think what made the pumpkin even great was that it involved getting a group together to smash things with chronos. the pumpkins could have drops 1/2 as much as they did and i still would have had a blast with it because it was well done. the pumpkins were neat looking, the idea was unique, and it causes a TON of superstition. i was running around durring this event telling people that they had to do certain /social actions between each nectar feeding to get the timing juuuuust right for a high quality pumpkin. its great when there is a sense of wonder and teh_unknown to an event. also, the best part about the christmas event, hands down, was the echo crystals. give us more neat little tunes :)
Suggestion: Put the question "Did you like this event? yes/no" into your polls.
Because as it is, the poll does not really tell you anything about whether people liked the event or not. "Would you participate again?" does not really help when the event is a "forced" event, i.e. when the mobs drop the pieces whether you care about the event or not...
And options like "did not participate because I was too busy" seem a bit weird, it's not as if you had to spend two hours away from grinding every day to actually get some fireworks. Most of the options do not really fit a "event drops while grinding" event...
I would have to agree with several other posts but Ellisande brought up some good points. Any event is apreciated by general players, but different players have different ways of seeing fun. Some happily spend hours to gain Echo crystals to play in town, while others delete them. Fireworks.. of course everyone picked them up and shot some, but most are going to delete or forget about now. On otherhand, I know many folks that still have lvl10 crystals from last years Halloween Pumpkin event. That was an event that any and all players could join in, and actually have the same chance to get rewards that normally would be impossible for their level. Everyone played Pumpkins and very few fussed. Not many played fireworks and most fussed. If event was actually designed to boost new player's morale, it worked great, It just didnt do much for anyone else. An easy fix to the Fireworks to make everyone happy would have been to create a 3rd higher stage(rarer) but that when fired dropped even iron or stems to whoever was underneath. The game is great, but the grind could use any incentive thrown it's way to keep player's interested, hoping Pumpkins are still on for this year :)

I think you need to read between the lines instead of such literal interpretations. Asking if you would participate in an event means that you would get the drops (of course you have to) and then actually do something with them. If you're just stocking up in the warehouse or just light them off randomly for no reason other than lighting them I wouldnt say you're 'participating' in the event.
I think you need to read between the lines instead of such literal interpretations.
A poll shouldn't require reading between the lines. If the goal is to get a consistent set of replies, then how can we be sure everyone participating in the poll read between the lines in the same way. How many of the "would you participate again" answers are people saying "yea, why not, it's not like it costs me anything, even though the reward is worthless" vs "i love this event?" The poll question could be improved to differentiate who actively enjoyed the event from who participated because there was no choice.
That being said, this meta-argument about the poll and the feedback collection is distracting from the point of this thread, collecting feedback on the event.
My feedback: Events that produce consumable decorations are lame. More events with keeper items please!
I liked the firework. Pls do not remove it from the inventory now the event is over. I want to use it for special occasions.
Tho I'm not american and 4th of july has lil meaning for me, still I think its nice to see NCSoft pay's attention to such things. (In a L2 way)

LOL, last time i recall that NCSoft showed their view of "reading between the lines" they made clear that there is absolutely no "reading between the lines". Anybody recall the infamous poll about Gameguard?
The vast majority picked something which sounded like "i'm concerned about gameguard" because it was the closest option to "i don't want it". After ignoring the vote and forcing Gameguard on us HGM-Spam came around and explained that there was no poll about whether we want it or not in the first place and our "concerns" have been addressed.

omy apparently i have brought back some bad memories here!

I think this was a very poor event. Actually a non-event in my case.
I keep hearing how good the events and rewards were last year. Right, when I wasn't playing yet. I started in December, shortly before Christmas event.
Ever since then everyone around me is very excited about every new event but ends up dissapointed about the rewards when the event is there.
People remember the Pumpkin event, Medal event and Raid Boss event from last year very well. And are very dissapointed that since last year's Christmas events were nerfed so bad.
I am double-dissapointed as I didn't even have a chance to participate in any of the "good" events so I can only hear about them. Nothing good for new players?

You raise an excellent point. I convinced a couple of my friends to play this game, but both are now giving me the evil eye because they have yet to experience one of the better events, and the economy in general is discouraging to them, even with my assistance. I hope they stick it out, but events like Playing with Fire aren't helping my case.

I participated Pumpkin and Medal, both where great. The last event was senseless for my toon ... no adena and no helpfull stuff.
i thought the event sucked bottom line. There was no point to it at all and there was no reward, all it did was hurt my inventory so i normally just threw the stupid firework stuff back down on the ground or didnt even pick it up. I would have to say this was one of the Weakest events so far but at least they made an effort to give us any event at all.

still better than the christmas event
what did it take like 40 inventory items to make a tree :P
Best events so far have been the pumpkins (fun getting together and smashing them then dividing out the loot - from big ones) and the medals (more solo orientated). The event raid boss one held recently was also good....again requiring cooperation etc.
Having said that, I don't think all events should have adena, scrolls, Xals etc as rewards....I personally enjoy variety. This event was fun - and many in my clan have kept some fireworks for celebrating after winning sieges etc.
IMO the pumpkin one was the best one so far. Accessable to everyone as well as every toon does they same damage to the pumpkins regardless of class or level. Make a similar one PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASE

funny you have no question about "how did you like the event?"
i thought it sucked. if you intend to do more of these, there better be alot more, and dont let them substitute for real events that make an impact on enchant scrolls, soul crystals, etc.
in fact, this upcoming event i certainly hope drops like the last pumpkin event did. i *really* hope it does. because if it's been like the last several, it's gonna really suck. :/
IMHO I think the time limit was just about right, and should be the time limit of the new summer sqash event. I mean seriously, do I have to stay up 24/7 for this upcomming event to get anything good. What are you thinking NCsoft, who the hell can do that? Whoops, don't wanna get too off subject.
The loot for this event, even tho nice really isn't worth it. I would like something to help me along. Something I so I can actually get some nice gear or something, something that will help the economy lower itself because we will start having surplusses of items...I want that...you know like stage 12 Soul Crystals or something. Or A grade Helm mats and recipies...yea!!! That would be awesome!!!
So no I really didn't participate in the event. I picked the stuff up and yes I did make a firework if I had enough, but I didn't really care! lol Shouldn't players care about events?
Well anyway, I hope the next event will be better, even tho it seems really REALLY short.
