I feel that the friends list could do with some revamping.
Sugguestions:
*Seperate into two rows - online and offline.
*Add a class icon. I often forget which friend is which class unless I party with them daily.
*A chat feature (not necessarily it's own tab) to all your online friends. ie: /friendsmsg hi friends. The mass mail feature is only really helpful if you want to set something up days in advance.
*Better Text wrapping. When you have many friends, names often get chopped in two and brought down to the next line.

That does take care of most suggestions except the class icon, which they could put on the alt-y messenger.

Also, msg'ing all friends at once would be nice. You CAN do that with alt-y, but then... that can be way too many windows. Then again, a feature such as this might not be necessary IF the class icons were implimented to the alt-y or alt-b.
I've been using alt-b for months (forgetting about alt-y) now and is why I made the aformentioned suggestions =P
