The Manor (let's try again)

Maline had some excellent points in her post before things sort of went haywire and I'd like to try to get this going again.

In particular, because mat prices are so absolutely crazy it really is to people's benefit to try to utilize the manor. Not necessarily as a get rich quick scheme, but as a way to actually get the mats they need to make the gear they require.

When I first thought about trying the manor I had all kinds of reasons why not to do it, but it really boiled down to one huge one. I was scared of it. It made me feel dumb and I didn't want to do something that made me feel stupid.

Circumstances forced me to try again and I looked through the information available and looked through Maline's posts (which contain a lot of good information if you know what to look for) and recently I've been able to turn in crops for a modest amount of mats.

My hope is this will grow to be what I need to craft my Avadon and Blue Wolf.

Okay, so some things I had problems with...

I felt hopelessly lost about just how to go about doing it.
I had no idea how to tell what was a good price for seeds.
I had no idea how to get things turned in.

So those issues have been mostly solved for me (but I have a meeting to run off to or I'd detail how). In the meantime, can we have some people post their issues and maybe we can suggest some fixes?
I'll just start with a few common hand in problems - basically the newbie mistakes, which I know because I made them all. ;)

Wrong Time The manor resets six minutes past the full hour, pretty much exactly. If you receive a message that it is still under maintenance, it has not yet reset.

Spamming Set up your hand in in time before the reset, and then time your click exactly. The bots spam, and you can not do so faster than them - you can, however, beat them out on precision with a bit of practice. If you do not own a radio clock to time your click, I would recommend Atomuhr (http://www.uhrzeit.org/atomuhr.html), a fancy little applet that should be just about as good as an actual digital radio controlled clock sitting on your desk.

Greed is a good thing for manor farmers, but it is a bad thing to try at a hand-in. Spread your manoring so you go after several seeds, and keep the quantities you hand in at any given time small. Don't hope to manor all the time you're levelling (unless you only have time to level a few days a week), manor the whole time and then hand it all in: There ain't enough buyback.

Taking into account all three points, provided ten or twenty people from your server did not just read this and will also try it, you should have a fair success rate. It has worked for all the individuals I gave them to in whispers; on Bartz as well as Devianne. If people do show a serious interest in this though, the whole thing is going to get hellishly jammed, and all that'll be left will be turning to unpopular seeds.

:D
Well, this isn't really an issue, more like a solution. As some people alluded to in the previous thread, you really don't need to go after the "big" items in the manor (read bone, varnish, etc). As you pointed out Jute, the manor is an excellent way to get the mats you need to manufacture your equipment, but it (as most people know) is a good way to earn an income.

Now, the big thing is, you don't have to try to make it into a get rich quick scheme. Mind you, if you hit the market at the right time, it can, but that is not reliable and can be frustrating as hell when you are trying to turn in your fruits (or buy seeds) when everyone/thing else has jumped on the band wagon. A really good way to make a steady (if not huge) income is seeding the marginal crops. People still need these mats and the manor lords tend to offer better seed selling and crop buyback rates (as they need to encourage people to manor those crops... as they can make good stuff from the crops they buy back).

Now for example, I seed Sea Codran for Cord right now. I'm buying at 125 per seed, and my buyback is around 650 to 800, so I average about 800 cord for a quick evenings work. I sell at 850 per cord and ta da, I've made a tidy little profit. Not huge, but it adds up over time (I've made about 11 Mill this past couple weeks).

Just food for thought.

Inch.
actually, unless i see you standing somewhere nearby the manor manager, spamming works pretty well for me (50% turnin, depending largely on type of seed), and if i do see you, i run away to another town cuz i know im about to be pwnd by an alarm clock. another thing that scares people away from manoring is that they dont know what time the manor resets (in C4 it was changed to 9:06pm EST), or they turn in their fruits for mats and then wander off instead of buying more seeds. it helps to think about what seeds you want while you're waiting to turn in the old ones.
Yes, Sea Codran is an excellent seed - but it might be wiser to turn the cords into crafted leather. That's what I did before I figured out how to hand in Golden and Chilly again.

PS: You can just put the windows for buying and selling overtop each other so that you can double-click them. Sometimes you get lucky and get them both; otherwise observe your tendencies. I am more likely to click a bit too early than a bit too late, so I put the less important window on the top, for an almost guaranteed success on the bottom.

How does switching towns help by the way? o.o; I hand in from just about anywhere, the hassle of porting isn't worth the little extra fee of moving for it.
peace of mind :)
I have a question since Im still relativlly new to the game and only know basiclly my end of the manoring system . .

Who is it that decides on the reward given for the fruit? Is it the Manor Lord? Is the Manor Lord a PC that is designated by the Clan leader that holds that Castle?

Chilly on Gustin always has reward type 2 of steel, never animal bone, and I HATE that. ( Its not that I terriblly mind the steel, just I'd rather have the bone for obvous reasons. )

**EDIT** Or have I been missing something this whole time and its in fact ME that gets to choose what reward type I want? If so I dont know how and would feel the fool.
The manor lord chooses it, and the manor lord is the leader of the castle that owns the clan. If you don't like the steel, try PMing them and pointing out that plenty of people would be very happy with more bone. :)

Thank you very much for the information. Its what I thought but it is always good for one to check things. As for PM'ing the leader of such a castle, I would have no clue even where to begin looking for such information, nore do I know if I have enough brass at the moment to even attempt it.

Not many on my server seem to take as much advantage of the Manor system as I would belive, there seems to always be seeds for sale for the most part, and of the seeds MY characters have the ability to use, I can usually turn in all my fruit the same day or the day after ( depending on seed , character, and mob ). I also admit however, that as a fairlly active player, I have the tendency to buy every seed available when I like the reward outcome. Then I always have more fuit then seeds when Im done since I wait untill I finish them all before turning in. I admit I dont always feel good about it, becuase people who buy seeds the next day will have a harder time turning in once I do after a day or two.

Ok I just had a brain spasm ( as I call them, flashes of something ). In the example just cited above, wouldnt the Manor Lord ( now that I know its him ) see that all seeds sold but no fruits where sold back, and be able to reflect this by lowering the amount of seeds sold the next day of that type and increase the amount of fruit being bought?

As Im to understand it there is a hardcap on both the amount of seeds to sell and the amount of fruit to buyback? If so do they ALWAYS run at these caps?

If I ask one more question I will probablly shoot myself for you.

Umm you can return to any castle's manor from any town's manor manager. If you are in Goddard with fruit you want to return to giran, you don't have to port.
Kingdom is well aware, but it does bear explicitly pointing out for newcomers. :)

:( Kingdom only leaves cos my dwarf stinks.

More importantly....make sure you set the buyback manor to the one you want to sell to. The new interface tends to settle on a 'default' manor, which may not be setup for what you want or is worse than what you could get. (Nor is it necessarily set for the town your in!)

It does cost afaik to turn in seeds in other towns.
10% iirc
I have one suggestion. Have two reset times so I don't have to stay up til 2:00am to turn my crops in.

I'll not go into fruit turn-in as that has already been described earlier in this thread.

There will be a "sweet" seed that you can make lots of money off. You just need to find out what it is on your server at any point in time.

Know what goes into your mats and check the prices of the core components, e.g. Ori Ore for Synth Cokes or bones and varnish for VoP. Check town for shops selling the same mats as you and set the price accordingly. The manor has so far paid for my Tallum Heavy set and my Dragon Grinders.

I have been doing the same seed for about a month now and I never fail to sell the crops (currently have 12m in crops up for sale and they'll go this weekend).

Lastly, and I may be silly but it's worth remembering, don't forget to keep some of that crop for yourself. Nothing more annoying than having sold all your VoP and then finding out that you need some. :p
Yeah, if you get into the whole manor timing its just going to be a flamefest and the only reply you will get is people telling you to go to teon. Anyway, manor works for me and I can turn in the best crops on a consistent basis. All I really have to say about it.
i was always able to turn in a good chunk of what i had every time until a couple weeks ago. now, all of a sudden, it is A LOT harder. i'm glad gameguard stops all those 3rd party programs. /sarcasm
