Hi, Im about 3 days old to this game and It's time to pick a class basicly. I'm thinking of either an assassin - abyss walker, or blade dancer. What i would like to know is.
Which of the 2 is most popular ?
Which is the best solo class ?
And is it better to be an abyss walker than an assassin if i want a group ?
Just to clarify, you don't choose between Abyss Walker and Assassin. Assassin is the class you go through in order to become an Abyss Walker. Once you hit level 20 as a DE Fighter you'll be able to become an Assassin or a Palus Knight. If you go Palus Knight you'll be able to become either a Bladedancer or a Shillien Knight at level 40. If you choose Assassin you'll be able to become an Abyss Walker or Phantom Ranger at level 40.
As for popularity, I don't really see that many AW on my server. They seem to be vastly outnumbered by their elf and human counterparts. BDs are quite common as they're a valuable asset in any party, and have little trouble getting into groups.
Both the AW and BD are average soloers, but really in both cases you'd be much better off finding a party. Particularly with BDs as if you can find a party that doesn't have one already you're pretty much guaranteed a spot.
As mentioned before, if you go BD your almost always garanteed a spot in a group. BD's set up for pve can be dish out lots and lots of damage. Soloing... well form my experience and seing my freinds BD go Id say soloing isnt the best option for that class. However, BD/buffer duo is ammazing. (Buffer -> WC or battle prophet that help out with damage).
IMO, Id go with the Blade Dancer.
My first toon was going to become a BD but I gave up on her too quick and now regret not giving her a chance.
Melee need buffs to level. You are starting out behind the curve. Either expect a long hard grind to catch up with players 2 years ahead of you (if you're looking to pvp) or play a support class that will get help in exchange for his buffs. And BD isn't bad for a support class either.
Start with the DE fighter, then go Palus Knight, and become a bladedancer.
Effective parties always need a bladedancer, and people are likely to invest time and effort helping an active bladedancer once they hit (relatively) low levels (52+).
Abyss walker is not as necessary to other players, so you will get less help.
Once you have one high level character, it will be easy to make new ones if you decide to do so. So I suggest you start with the Bladedancer since they are likely to hit those levels more quickly.

Go BD and sub the dagger. Getting a high lvl toon to explore content is much more fun, and BD will lvl quickly and be invited to raids etc.
i'd recommend a Sh (like i havent done that a billion times before)
prolly the only class that can effectively solo even at 70+ and not too shabby at pvp either
Just as i thought, I'd like to play the assassin and AW the most. But i was afraid they would be a bad choise if i wanted any group. Thnaks for the answers.
From the conversations that I've had with AW's, if you can get into a good clan, you will be fine. If not, you'll find groups a little tougher to get with so many other other classes out there taking up key spots.
The BD, on the other hand, can almost always get a duo or group. I've gone through quite a few re-rolls, but I have to admit that the BD is one of my favorite classes to play. If I make it to level 80+, it will be as a BD, followed by the SH.
