I've been playing L2 since very early C1 and a couple of questions never really have been answered for me, so here they go.

How is the amount of karma lost during a death calculated. I was told PvP count had an effect on it, as well as what level the person is who kills you (some say high level is better, some say low).

Siege golems, I remember them comming out only in big sieges but I rarely see them anymore. Are they not very useful? Or are they just extremely expensive?

thanks

The only thing that effects karma loss is the amount of xp you lose when you die.

Example 1: Lvl 10 loses 10% so he loses 5k xp so he loses 100 karma.

Example 2: Lvl 75 loses 4% so he loses 500k xp so he loses 6k karma.

The amount of % gained back after rez does not effect karma loss.

As for siege golems. THere aren't that many high lvl dwarfs out there, so people just knock down the doors. It's sad, but taht's the way it is.

From what I've seen and talked to Warsmiths, Golems are hugely expensive in Gemstones to run (Amounts in the Millions per siege) and really don't break down the doors/walls any faster than a mob of melees do. They also tend to 'glitch' in movement/placement to attack and thus can stand there sucking down gemstones without doing *anything* but turning on the spot. Just mobbing the doors/walls with people is cheaper and doesn't take much longer. Many lords don't bother to enforce their walls/doors anyway, since winning a siege is all about controlling the field and has little to NOTHING to do with defense. (Gee what else about the game is all about offense?)

In fact the walls of a castle are usually more of a hindrance to the defenders than to the offense if the attackers have more characters/higher levels. About all they can do is prevent an attacker from 'ninja-ing' the castle and keep people from doing the same with the life crystals.

If the attackers are going use a summon, the Wild Hog Cannon appears to be the better choice. It seems to take down the defenses faster and from a range outside of the defenders mages and archers.

The only thing that effects karma loss is the amount of xp you lose when you die.

Does this hold true if you are at war or sieging and lose only 1% per death?

yes.

War death means you will lose 1k karma.
Other death means you will lose 4k karma.

Some people will war an alt clan, so that they can get as few deaths as possible to lose the karma.

So if they have 3k karma, they lose 3% instead of the standard 4. But if they have 4k karma they will need to die 4 times if it is at 1% loss.

I've heard this but according to what you're saying, it wouldn't work. Or, it would be a wash (pun intended).

nah like in my example...

If you have 3k karma. It takes one 4% death or three 1% deaths. This saves you 1%. It is best when you only need a 1% death to lose karma. It doesn't help it all really when you are stareing 90k karma in the face. Then ya might as well just go 4% all the way. Or if you are going to brez either way... u might as well just take the 4%. It does help a little, but not a whole heck of a lot.
