Newbie Equipment Guide

Please add any tips for newbies when buying equipment.

I'm a newbie, and from what I gather, you can only buy up to D-grade in weapon and armor shops in towns. You can buy C-grade in the Giran Prestigious Items Hall (luxury shop) using C and D crystals. I assume that you can't buy B+ equipment from any shops.

If I have equipment I'd like turned into crystals how do I do it? Can a dworf set up a shop where I can crystalize my equipment? Do I have to trade to a dworf to have him crystalize? Or if I level up a dworf, what level skills do I need to crystalize C and D.

The Mammon Blacksmith can upgrade or trade up to C-grade. They will trade weapons of equal crystal value for free. To upgrade, you pay AA. Also if you upgrade, you lose any enchantments; however, if you trade, you keep the enchantments.

Are my assumptions above all correct? And please add any other tips a newbie should know so he doesn't waste adena.

EDIT: Also Enchanting: do you have to be a certain level to enchant?

THANK-YOU from all us newbs!! :)

Player shops or craft for B grade and up.

You have to give item to the dwarf and then he uses the crush skill to make crystals from that items. If you dont know a dwarf that you can trust with items you can look up how much cystals the item gives on this site in library section and ask for trade. To crush items yourcelf you need to get a artican to lvl 20 for D items and to lvl 40 for C items, the skill used to crush items is crystalise.

No, you need to have enchant scrolls of apropriate grade and type (armor/wearpon) in your's inventory. Also, items have achance ot break when enchanting for more then 3 times (4 for full body armor). Imho it no need to enchant D grade, it costs allot and doesnt gives much benifits. ANd it's somewhat same for B grade. Personaly I prefered saving money toward B grade rather then making my C wearpon and armors to +3. Do not, I repeat DO NOT overenchant your's important equipment unless you have a replacement or hard cash at your's hand to replace the lost equipment. The item WILL break, and you never know when it will break beforehand so you can't stop for that.
Also, the Blacksmith of Mammon won't touch a weapon that has a special ability on it. It won't even show in the trade window. You retain enchantments when you trade evenly but not when you trade up.

I do beleive in general that is correct. You cant buy any B grade form any NPC shop but you can from other players.

Unlike Private Creatino shops dwarves cant create a "private Crystalize Shop". You have to give (by trade) the equipment to a Dwarf and have him crystalize it and give you back the crystals. What server are you on? Im sure people here can suggest trustworthy dwarves to you.

Or if I level up a dworf, what level skills do I need to crystalize C and D.

Making a Dwarf is always a good investment. However it takes alot of time to level one up to a decent level. Im sure somone else will be able to give you the exact level required but Id guess youd had to level him up to around lvl 20-24 to crys D grade and lvl 40-43 to crys C grade (just a guess).

Yes
Just keep in mind if a weapon has a SA on it and you trade it for free for another weapon, your SA will dissapear.
Duals can only be traded for duals.... even if it has the same crystal count as another weapon.

No, a level 1 toon can Enchant stuff if you want.

Actually, this is not correct, the weapon will not show up until you have removed the SA, so you cannot trade a weapon at Mammon that has an SA.
1. Yes, you can buy up to D grade in the town shops. However, you will not be able to get the full gear to complete the sets (ex: Giran armor shop sells Manticore top/bottom, but not the boots, which are needed to complete the set).
You can purchase some C-grade equipment from the specialty shop in Giran, but you will not find all of the items in which you might be interested.
No B-grade items may be purchased in this manner.

2. Dwarves cannot set up crystallization shops. You would need to either a) trade your item to said dwarf and hope you get your crystals back, or b) level up a dwarf for yourself. I can't remember offhand what level you need to be to crystallize items; sorry I can't help you much there.

3. What you stated about Mammon is correct. Also, keep in mind that you cannot exchange items that already have SAs on them. In order to exchange these items you would need to remove the SA in question, using the Mammon guy in town. This is not typically a good idea however, as it costs you AA to remove the SA, and you do not get anything back but a clean weapon with whatever enchantments it had to begin with.

You do not have to be any particular level to enchant. However, as everyone seems to have their own superstitions regarding enchanting, you'll probably get a ton of suggestions as to how to properly plus up your weapons/armor.
While on the subject of enchanting, it is also worthwhile to note that items can only be enchanted safely to +3, with one-piece armors enchantable to +4. If an enchant fails, you will receive the base price in crystals in exchange for your weapon/armor, unless you are using a blessed enchant scroll, in which case your weapon/armor will go back to +0. Blessed enchants tend to be a bit pricy though, so you'll have to compare the cost of the enchants to the value of your items when overplussed.

Hope that helps!

Edit: Wow, I guess I type slow. There weren't any responses when I started typing lol

I could of sworn I trade a +7 Emi with CS for a +7 Berzerker sword a few months back using mammon. I migth just be going insane though. Must have removed the SA then....
I'm on Bartz server - if you know any good dworfs for crystalizing. Thanks.
I always use LtlSquander for crystallizing. He's a good guy and is almost always online :)
