Gardener Fordson recently got a great deal on a warehouse full of magical squash seeds. Determined to grow them all during the summer season, he has sent Buzz the Cat to the villages of Aden and Elmore to recruit some adventurers with green thumbs to harvest the entire crop.
Fallen Pollen
Pollen will fall from defeated monsters that are near your level of experience. Trade your stock of pollen to Buzz the Cat for enchanted seeds and grow your own magical squash. After planting a seed, feeding the Young Squash enough pollen will make it grow. You must then break it open to reap your prize! Hitting a squash before it has fully grown will cause it to wilt from lack of nutrition, so be careful. Also, since these magical squash tend to flee, try to crack it open before it gets away.
Large squash can't be pried open with a regular weapon. Chrono souvenir weapons must be used, and remember that a large squash requires many people in order to break it before it escapes. Chrono Darbukas can be purchased from Buzz the Cat during this event in exchange for your gathered pollen.
Prizes can include potions, armor and weapon enchantment scrolls, soul crystals, and more. You must work to break the squash open quickly or the squash will vanish.
It looks good. It would be nice to have the event from fri-tue and then again from fri-tue the next week. Since it is a siege weekend for us, A HUGE chunk of time will be sent siegeing, so participating will be hard, and I doubt many people would complain about the extra weekend of smashing.
They definitely need to include lvl 11,12&13 crystals! It might be nice for real players to get them for a change instead of 'those who shall not be named' constantly farming them. SHEESH!
I hope those squash pop as good as before. Recent trends including the drops from the last Raid event indicates it may be down as well. Still I'm looking forward to this one.

Farmers don't get lilith very often on bartz. I think 3 times in the last 2 periods farmers got the boss.
But I really do like coal. I used to keep getting 1 lump every Christmas but now I get all those electronic gadgets and are not environmentally friendly.
Ok, first off, Gardener Fordson is a drunk and a liar. He owes me money and he knows it. Secondly, he is a lazy bum as he is sending Buzz the Cat to do a job that is his responsibility.
Now, what not many know is that Buzz the cat is a scam artist and a philanderer. I wouldn't trust him to take care of his own mother let alone recruit responsible and upstanding citizens to save Gardener Fordson's butt because he is souced and snoring in the spinach patch.
Furthermore, I have it on several reliable sources that Buzz the Cat (if that is indeed his real name) took part in a similar job in Gracia. Let me tell you, 50 people not only lost their squash but also some equipment and their dignity. Not to mention there are far too many cats skulking around Gracia, asking for change and swiping muffins that resemble "Sir Buzz" just a bit too closely if you know what I mean! :)
Quite frankly, Gardener Fordson is so useless I can only imagne that he is just a front for a larger and more nefarious squash organization and underworld.
Sorry to ruin the event for you all but it had to be said and everyone's just a bit too starry eyed at the moment to see the forest from the trees. :)
Thank you Mistryl for another event! Only four days tho, which I hope means other events are on the calender and so this one can't be as long as the Pumpkin one last year. (Is Daftstin healed up from his last raid?)

According to blah the pumpkin event coincided with PTS, and the theory is that it was scheduled to stop the immediate flood to the PTS to lessen PTS stress... Also with the customary pre-PTS Bartz lag that we are all use to...

I have to say that I welcome this event as well. I think it will be good for the economy (as in bring some prices down to normalcy) and the regular players. Also, I like the fact that this event feels unique (although we had this one before). What I mean by unique is that you get to grow a pumpkin and crack it and can actually see the pumpkin growing! It sort of has a storyline and a RPG element to it. I would welcome more in game events or anything in the game that has more RPG and storyline elements to it and with actual, visible happenings that enchance the storyline/RPG element of things that happen in game.

This looks like a good event. Count me in. Now I just hope that I still have all of my chrono fists in one of my warehouses.

They beat this event with nerf stick already and i dont need to partipate to know it.
4 days compared to 14 days last time thats a 70% time reduction in the length of the event first off. And we see what they did with the drop rates for the fireworks and letter events.
So dont give your hopes up im sadly dissappointed that they screwed another favorite event up.

Because double xp weekend is the exact opposite of what L2 is.

Yeah, squash is good stuff, same with Zucchini. All good stuff and much more nutitious than watermelons. It does make more sense to smash watermelons though, I never smashed squash (Hehe that sounds funny) I like my squash unvoilated.

The Event banner is finally up and guess what the 'squash' looks like? Just like a pumpkin! So... I would expect the dialog from the squash to match the pumpkin dialog too.
That is okay, as the pumpkin dialog was clever and amusing (except when you ran out of time and it said, 'Goodbye.')

Will the pollen be like other drops that you have to pick up, or will they appear in your inventory automatically? Just trying to decide if I should hunt with the SH or the BD for this event.
Pollen won't begin dropping until the event starts at the end of the week. The Nectar leftover from the Hit the Jackpot event is now Pollen, and can be used to raise squash when the event begins.

Last year, you had to pick the nectar up. So.. Odds are you will have to pick up the pollen too.

4 People with Darbukas (Pole) no buffs
3 people with Darbukas and add haste pots/buffs
2 people with Unitas (Fist) and haste buffs
1 Monk with Unitas and all haste buffs/totems.
Basically the only thing that matters is the attack speed. Using a Chrono weapon with a higher attack speed and adding as many buffs that increase attack speed is the fastest way to do it.
With just the pole chronos the event manager sells and few buffs you can do it with any three chars 3 although it may be close. Having 4 is pretty much a certainty. The Chrono Unitas (Fist) is good for these, and with buffs you can do it with 2. (3 is a surety) I've heard of a solo Tyrant being able to do it with the unitas and buffs...but I wouldn't want to rely on that.
I recommend having 3 people at a min, but the more people you can get together to wack away the more fun it seems.
Also, even if you feel like you can't kill them, then you can always go to Giran or race track, there are usually many people there smashing them in a giant fun party and since you get priority to pick up, you can still get your loot. (priority goes to the one who planted the Squash)

I didn't play L2 at that time, but as far as i recall that whole event was about races and not individuals collecting something. And were those event items tradeable back then?

i have seen a tyrant solo a pumpkin. but i have yet to see a tyrant solo a squash, maybe they will have higher p def? maybe they will run in little circles? who knows. maybe the "more" is baium O.o
edit: coconuts at christmas and watermellons next summer? and the christmas after that? nogs. you know, those round things eggnog is made out of.

If its like the pumpkin event there are 2 types regular and large.
Regular pumpkin: anyone could pop with any weapon or chrono in one or 2 hits.
Large pumpkins: regular weps had no affect you had to use a chrono. To be safe 4 or people to pop a large pumpkin.
Usualy there was no problem finding enough people to pop a large pumkin. Every day there was people in town growing large pumkins and groups of people pounding on them. Usually we just took turns growing them.
Oh ya for those of you who dont know. Who ever spawns and grows the pumpkin getts all the drops. Even if you try and spamm pickup they will still get all the drops unless your in a party with said person and drops are shared.
I bet alot more than last time since this event is only 4 days long. Last time it was 2 weeks long so nector was everywhere.

And where did you find this information? I'm grateful that ther are bringing back this event. Regardless of the outcome. People will complain about anything, and then they wonder why GM's don't show their faces in game?
The drops have never ben dependent on peek hours, thats just an hoax, Lionna example got 2 peak hours one at european prime time becsoe half the server is europeans and one later on, sadly only the later one got the drops.
I remmeber from the last event, played 3-4 hours got 20 of em, then I was up to 4am my time played an hour and got 60 under that time.
I truly hope they deleted this 'protection crap' for once now, but I doubht it.

Saw another post of someone opening a large squash already. Looks like its the same rewards from last time. So if you want to oe anything wait tell after event. If you are selling enchants stuff them in the warehouse for a while. Things are going to get very cheap for a while.

About 4 people could do it last time, if i remember right. The more the better.
Maybe you can do it with 3 if you got some damage-skills that can be used with a chrono-weapon. So if you got 3 destroyers or tyrants, tell us if it worked...
THey use NO algorithm at all, it's fact what they are doing ot 'fight the bots' but did you know, it hurt the legal players way more then the bots becose we are thretened as the bots.
The deal is this the 'math' and so on comes from korea, it's all from there, it somewhat works there becose they are all in the same time zone and got beter drops when it's not night over there.

it seems to be time based similar tot he medal event. More drop at peak times and less drop at other times. Probably to help with bots getting huge amounts. Sucks for me since I am on vacation today though :)

Be somewhat careful here. With the pumpkin event there were some well known griefers in Giran attacking other peoples pumpkins with normal weapons, which reduced the odds of getting high quality pumpkins.

Farmers benefit anyway, they don't care what time it is, they play 24/7.
Its the legit players that suffer, unless you happen to play at certain hours of the day and actually have many hours of gameplay available.

teon is the designated euro server, we have handful of russians and some players outside of that. As you should notice my point was adjusted for the /MOST/ players. Most players are in north america as well as most players are on nights and weekends and they adjust the drops to fit such. If you dont play on teon and are a euro thats just the way life is.

Farmers "play" 24 hours a day. That means that they will ALWAYS be in a better position than a legitimate player.

they would benifit a great deal more if they had 100 pollen per hour 24 hours a day instead of 10 per hour and then 100 per hour for a few hours at night.

no, ncsoft has the right to do what they want, allow you to use their service and can terminate it at any time. The players dont decide anything, ncsoft does. The majority of servers outside of teon have NA players and they will always accomodate those players. I am sorry if this harsh reality is too much for you but reality often is.

I believe that he was saying that the scrolls would drop to 5k, not the pollen. And there were farmer stores up with 1000+ pollen for sale after the first night of the event.

Summoner, but party loot rules apply if you're in group. Also you only have 15 seconds to do so.
From the last squash (pumpkin) event I tried to figure out what makes your reward go down. Was it random? Didn't think so. Maybe someone else can confirm since I haven't done any this event.
Anyway, each time the squash says, "I think I broke something!" then your reward goes down -1.
From what I noticed, the less it's said the more the reward. If said too much then you could end up with the reward of 1-3 items. Also it can say it up to four times without affecting your reward then after that it begins to drop.
Drops are high right now. From my experience they start at around 7 p.m. EST, begin slowing down at 1 a.m. to about half the normal rate and then at 3 a.m. they hit rock bottom to the point where participating is pretty worthless. That's just a 2 day obversation so I could be far off on some things.

Actually, my point was to most benefit the players. Since most players arent on during the daytime in the week, they drop them. Many players are on all day on the weekend so they should up it. Thats my point.
i hope NC disabled the event thing drops in catas...
or its just another "AF gets richer" event.

stupidest reason to ban anyone ever. Last event I know people who got rich buying and reselling pollen/nectar. Was easy for them to afford buying 10k cheap and reselling that for a profit.

I also wanted to mention that the pollen will be removed in the near future (sometime after the event managers leave the villages), so don't hoard those pollen!

The drop rate is absurd. I grinded for 4 hours and recieved 3 pollens. At this rate the only way to get enough pollen to do anything is to 1)but it 2)become an automated character that can go nonstop to get enough.
I even gmed about the pathetic drop rate I was experiencing and recieved the same crap you just put in your post. We cant tell you the drop rate. I can! It is pathetic and almost non existent. :mad:

I did read the entire 20 pages of post thank you very much. I was grinding during the supposed peak time and still only recieved 3 or 4 pollens for my trouble. I will try again today, but dont think it will change.

But that shouldn't even be....To make an event fun, so everyone can take part in it. The rate should be of a fixed value.
and I disagree, to each their own I suppose. I think this event has done a completely wonderful job of keeping market saturation to a minimum while still rewarding players. Most of the stuff I received (outside EWD) I will most likely use for my own chracters. Most events I have a few warehouses full of scrolls but this one is keeping things under control nicely and I love just seeing people helping people in town with their squashes, thx ncsoft :)
Event cats should be up for a week after the event drops end, so until Tuesday August 1st.
Is this statment still true? I know it will give many players not able to jump in this past weekend because of rl local summer events a chance to have some fun.

well, you can still have family time! You just get 3-4 computers, 3-4 accounts and say 'YOU KIDS GET ME 400 POLLEN EACH YOUR NO ONE IS EATING!!'

After this much time I dont understand why people havent figured out the concept of majority rules. The drop rate is fine, albeit it should have been upped for the entire weekend since a very large amount of people are on at all times on those days. Sure, there are paying customers all over but they need to keep the majority of subscribers happy and not the minority.

If you ask me if I want more free items, sure, I always want free items and enchants, who doesnt? At a point you have to watch what is best for the community as a whole. Everyone getting 1000 pollen a day is not a good thing. I also stated that the weekend rate should have been upped since their largest audience is on at all times on the weekends thus sticking with my main point of catering to their large audience and not the minority. This drop rate allows for people to get some stuff and doesnt overly flood the sever and limits the amount farmers benefit, cant ask for more than that.

I tested a fresh char in the gremlin room for a little while during peak drop hours, not a single pollen drop, so I'm guessing that would classify as extremely low level. My level 12 orc did fine though.
Just to clarify, the event cats will still be around until August 1st and we can still grow squash, correct? I'm sitting on a lot of pollen and seeds that I won't be able to use for a few days, so I'd like to be 200% sure on this.

I can fully understand how they cannot do so with things like castle sieges that happen of a very short period of time, but a 5 day event is completely different.

The truth is that we are made to suffer by having events that are designed for an audience that is limited in it's geographical area (or attempts are made to do so by national ID numbers and IP restrictions) and tailored to playtimes of that audience. You are lucky that Korea's main playtime is not midnight to 8am or you would have had to stay up and play during the same times.
NA Lineage 2 has an entirely different subscriber base. I may be stupid but I thought the whole point of NCSoft having a NA office was to understand the needs of their customer base and to tailor/amend things like events accordingly.

I do understand the concept of farmers. You don't seem to understand the concept that raising the drop rates all day would lead to them having thousands upon thousands of pollen instead of hundreds. That was my whole point.

The vast majority is from north and south america which share time zones. There are a lot of americans, a fair amount of canadians and quite a healthy brazilian and south american population. Dont make me bring up Teon again here.
NC Soft NA may have been created to cater to the North American market but Lineage 2 is a small part of their overall gaming in North America. Between Guild Wars and City of Heroes I am sure. They cannot afford to go and make whole new events just for 9-10% of their total customer base. We get all Korea's events which is totally cool with me.
I thought it was a fun event with marginal rewards that kept the market in check and just about everybody no matter where from got at least one chance at a squash.
Also, if Korea did like their events in the middle of the night, they would still change that for north america. Drop tables seem to be quite easy for them to manipulate. Overall I give this event a A- B+ range, ty.
Northen part of talking island iw as gettign 1 pollen every 5 mobs. Some times every 2. That was yesturday at 8pm est. I say that that is realy good considering I was lvl 17.

Ok, I think this would have made everyone happy. Most events have a big bang at the end. Lets say the event ended at sunday at 1am CST. Starting at 12:01am Sunday morning drop rates are high until the end of the event. Also, squashes randomly appear throughout the world in hunting spots all high quality. I think I could agree with that and everyone would have enjoyed it.

You seem to have overlooked the fact that the European server wasn't there from Open Beta and that many non-North American players started in Open and even Closed Beta. There is no enforcement to ensure that the players playing on the NA servers are localized players, unlike in Korea, Japan etc. Hence NA should cater for international players as much as possible. A 5 day event is an ideal example of where this can happen easily.

That would only work if there were server transfers, something mentioned in the newsletter of May 2004 and, as yet, still undelivered. The game may be thriving in Korea and there is no need for server transfers. But just ask a Kain player how many people they see on the server and how happy they would be to see server transfers. Not implementing such a thing only servers to fuel the adena market as people are forced to reroll on a new server.

No, it isn't because they get the benefit of the high drop rate as well. They don't all log off at 6pm CST and back in at midnight you know. OK, so each one doesn't get miles ahead of you. But one person can run many of those parties. How else would it explain a shop in Giran on Saturday afternoon with 6K pollen for sale? All the variable drop rate does is penalise fee-paying customers, be it outside of North America or within it who cannot play for other reasons, e.g. shift work.
Shaping an event to minimize the gap between legit players and farmers (if that is what really happened) is not tackling the issue of these individuals, it is accepting it. I, for one, do not want to see toleration of these types of accounts, I want to see attempts at eradicating them.

Yes, one person can run multiple parties but you still cant seem to grasp how 6,000 is different from 60,000 and what effect that can have.
A balanced drop rate would not result in 60,000. It would result in 6,000 across the same time period. You seem to think that I want the maximum rate 24/7, that is not a balanced rate.
Say the rate is set to 50% for 6 hours and 10% for 18 hours. You would set the rate at 20% for 24 hours:
50 * 6 = 300
10 * 18 = 180
Total = 480
Divided by 24 hours = an hourly rate of 20%.
Farmers get the same, multi-national clans get the same and individuals have the same chance of getting the same amount of rewards for the same amount of playtime. What is so wrong with that?

Just like the raid boss event where the spawns are in the middle of the day and the evening...you dont hear NA players whining because others get a huge benefit in drops during those times. It is all fine when the favor is in your court but the minute you have to deal with the majority you throw a fit...poor you :*(**

Please stop right there and think. I live in US and I can't go in the Japan L2, or Korea, or China. So screw that. The same should be applied for North America. Until then, deal with it.

Asterisk' are used to replace swear words due to a profanity filter. It isnt an assumption it is a fact especially in the context of the sentence it was in.
Anyway, if anyone is going to benefit from drop times it should be the majority, I cannot imagine you are arguing that point at all. Adding more to the other times and having a 25% or 50% increase during peak hours might have been more 'fair' and still agreeable. Heck, I was on vacation for this whole event so it cant be greed perpetuating my feelings because I would have benefited just as much either way about it so that argument is invalid.
I would be fine with them making it even as long as they dont have any more raid boss events or any more mob events with good drops that favor low server load times ever again. Because if the Euro crowd and the non peak hour crowd is favored by those events by sheer lack of numbers I dont see why you cant see this event evening things out by favoring the peak hour crowd.

Well you would be wrong because I totally agree with that as it happens. However, I do not see how Raid Boss events could not have balanced spawns either, but let's not go there.
I do not play this game in the way it would appear to be intended. My girlfriend and I have rolled a couple of support classes and have a main character each. I am not in a massive clan that can make raid boss parties at the drop of a hat and, as such, am excluded from those events also. I am also excluded from other major parts of the gameplay, e.g. castle sieges, raid bosses etc.
I accept that because it is my choice to play the way that I do. I could change that if I wished to do so but I had enough of server politics back in C1 and do not wish to get involved in hissy fits in something that I do for fun. However, I cannot change where I live and do not feel that I should be prejudiced because of it.
I have stated many times that all I wanted was a fair event where I do not have to play from midnight to 6.00am but you seem unwilling to understand. And yes, I wanted to get some rewards to make my gameplay a bit easier due to not having the support of a major alliance and wanting to stay legit.
I have also argued that the balance drop rate would favour your conutrymen who have to work shifts but also pay the same fee as anyone else. I really do fail to see how you cannot realise that a balanced rate is fairer to all L2 NA customers.

Would you care to explain why you believe people do not deserve equal treatment? The fact that this is a Korean game being released in other languages shows that NC desires a greater customer base. Alienating a part of their customer base with biased events does nothing to solidify their market share, nor does it do anything to keep the 'majority' around when unbiased events would be just as fun to them. I have no idea what you're trying to say with the WoW comment.
It wasn't a matter of 'participating to the maximum ability in the event'. If you attempted to play during the non peak hours you'd see how abysmal the drop rates were. For those who could not log on at all during peak hours the event simply did not exist, no matter how much they played. I know several Europeans that put in a lot of hours and never came close to forming a single large squash. I on the other hand could put one together in a single hour of peak grinding, and there is something seriously wrong with that.
