I died the other day as I was jumping off a cliff. My body was stuck near the bottom of the cliff, and a GM moved it, so it could be resurrected.
I also dropped some crystals that got stuck half way down the cliff. The GM said he could not recover them, because the cliff was too slippery. He said he tried. This would have been really bad if it was some dropped equipment, instead of 25k worth of crystals.
Why are GMs limited in this way? Why can't they just select an item and teleport it?

Cause the crystals are stuck on the cliff... y should they climb up there and get them for u?

Agreed. I don't think he should've even moved the body. You die someplace inaccessable, it's your own fault. Should I /GM everytime some adena drops on a rock and I can't reach it?

Don't be stupid. If you can move to a place, it is by definition accessable. Therefore my body was someplace accessable when I died.
My bishop could stand on top of the body or right next to it, but when I tried to cast ressurection the bishop just tried to climb the cliff. This is called a terrain bug.
A bunch of crystals sticking to the side of a shear cliff is also seems like a terrain bug. They should probably fall to the bottom, with the body, or maybe be at the top of the cliff.
If you are done trying to hijack my thread with drivel, I would like to get my question answered.
Well, getting stuck is something that a /gm will fix. There was a time when /unstuck wasn't a feature. The terrain glitches were more numerous as well. A GM would be more than willing to get you unstuck and grab your dropped item for you since it is caused by a Glitch in the game. Not anybodys fault really, just bad circumstances. Now that we have the /unstuck command they don't have to deal with terrain glitch issues as much.
ya, i would hope that if i droped my SOM n it got glitch somewhere in the terrain and i couldnt access it, i would only need to gm a gm..lol and he could get it for me. If he cant access it, then put new one in my inventory n delete the other one...
I would difintly be very upset if i couldnt get it back due to a bug/glitch.
Maybe the Gm didnt make the effort based on the low quality of the crystals.. i duno, but u should of been helped regardless in anyway possible...
Ps i really dont think a GM would be limited at all... I think he just didnt bother maybe, but im sure he was in a position to hlp you out with that...

Because the GM knew you could get those crystals yourself, if you thought about it a bit. Adena, items and such that are half way up/down a cliff can be recovered by doing the following:
Get to the top of the cliff, with the items directly below you.
Start spamming 'pick up,' and click the ground/sky/whatever that is straight ahead of you.
You will 'jump' off the cliff and 'obtain' the items on the way down.
You may take falling damage, so don't do this if aggros are at the bottom of the cliff.
A variation, if the items are not too far down the cliff, is to get to the top, and simply click the item to activate 'pick-up.' It will take you over the cliff as it 'obtains' the item, and you will fall to the bottom. (This is how I first 'learned' this trick as a newbie dwarf. Fortunately, no falling damage at that time! Scared the devil out of me tho.)
It's not much comfort, but just like mobs, pets can hump cliffs - and yes, that means if the item is close enough to top or bottom (and you don't want to jump up and down a few times trying to get it), a pet might be able to recover it for you.

Not quite sure, but I think theres a typo in there.
If you're referring to the hump, no there is not. A character moving up a slope that a player can't go up moves against it repeatedly, looking as if they were ******* it. :)

I will try this next time.

We tried this, but it must have been too far down.
