GM's will be very involved in the game. I will not go into Gm policy because that would take all the funn out of it. You guys will just have to play and see how it goes!!!!

So 2 years later i still haven't figured it out. Was he talking about GMs taking care of scammers? Or GMs running Mini-Events or maybe even GMs looking around and banning obvious botters? I think the GM policy can be summed up as 'as little involvement as possible' and has been so since the start of this game. Having 'fun' with GMs seems to be more rare then a full item drop...

It's very possible that they were supposed to be more involved in events (a more "direct and active" role) and that in the end the company changed their mind.
Such as controlling npc characters or monsters maybe. Or as Ash was trying to do, have arena events. Maybe even gm against player.

I believe we have had events that were GM driven. Like the various monster spawning events. Remember the "a great evil is approaching?" that has had us wondering for weeks? It was a hoot.

3 events in 2 years isn't exactly what i consider 'very involved'.

I'd rather have them not involved in the game. IMO GM's are like maids... They should keep the place clean, but stay out of sight!
Seriously... I'd rather not have gm's doing anything besides solving problems.
Well, Spam mentioned he had 3 level 75 characters or something like that back in C2, and that GM's play actively on their servers, Ash even had a high level Gladiator on Erica.
Now these things just don't make sense in my mind...if they truly have this, then in all likelyhood they're part of major alliances in some form or another and then it makes no sense how much they're allowed to get away with cheatingwise :/
WTH? lol. I dont know what to say to this. Scam competition?? We get way to many cry babies on these forums. I cant wait till im back in game. Im going to scam someone. Seems to be a good way to get some recognition around here. Hmmm. Im off to plot my scam!

Go for it. If anybody figures out you scammed them, chances are no good clan will ever trust/tag you. You will become an exile on the server until you reroll. That doesn't mean you should be banned.
Don't put words in my mouth. Scamming is being a total jerk, but it's allowed nonetheless - just like it's allowed to PK a level 4 on Talking Island with your hero if you really want to.
:) And if you think about the kind of scams people fall for, level 4 seems an overstatement...
Every time I read an "I got scammed" thread I have the sudden urge to start scamming, but I'd rather just keep driving harsh prices and admitting to it openly. :p
[xxx] WTS My ebayed gear CHEAP!
->[xxx] How cheap is cheap? Like "I will be able to resell this for four mil extra and you won't mind because you can ebay 4 mil faster than I can earn them" cheap?
[xxx]: sure
Eh it will just be an experiment. I will make a dwarf and name him something like ISCAMYOU and then I will set up shop. If anyone buys I will give them there money back and they can keep the crappy item I sold them. Im just really curious how many actually fall for scams. I dont know about the rest of you. But I pay close attention to what im doing. So yeah we will call it an experiment. I have no experience in scamming. I like to think I have a unique play style. I do L2 experiments quite often.

When I say market savvy (savy? I'm not sure) I refer to people like Kruken. ._. The one time I asked him for market advice he destroyed my confidence in my market knowledge in five minutes with a few good tips.
A scammer isn't really savvy, as he only targets the stupid. More like a D Grader PKing on TI than a hero, really - he can't beat the big ones, so he comes to TI until someone brings an alt. Except, of course, you can't bring an alt in Giran. :(
Paid GMs.... = No player involvement as they are paid to do a True GMs job. So limiting them to just the petition system and nothing much beyond that, the we will see.
Heres the deal though:
A volantary gm, player based gm. Not a GM like we know that does the petition system to a high degree.... But could assist in initial petitions if related to lost items on glitched terrain or whatever. Porting problems? something that isn't to heavy into the petition system.
Player Based GMs that don't have any "favorites". That play the game on a regular bases, the roam around the land, assisting newbies with quest, items, hunting, hell buffing them up, or even throwing out a few relatively reasonable free things. Right up to assisting in seiges/raids or just to be there period.
Being Volenteer player based gm, wouldn't cost ncsoft a dime, plus those that are true to the volenteer system, will provide a more indepth atmosphere for the game.
Frankly i'd love this position, reguardless of previous years of playing, fighting other clans/alliance.. it's a game, ment to have fun, and frankly i enjoy the most either providing assistance to anyone at any place and any time i have time.
As for Events. Mini Events.. whatnot. Anyone have any idea how utterly sweet it would be for a GM to walk into town, make an annoucement about something coming, and then proceed to any one of the gates.
At which point they spawn some form of Raid boss, or a few dozen or hundred mobs, that drop event like materials or higher xp (2x xp/sp bonus perhaps) or quest items or who knows what.
Frankly i think an server wide announcement on say a mid afternoon saturday or sunday, that says something along the lines of:
Apon this very day
From the depths of the cave
Came a threat in which all
Clans previously wared
Would forge a great alliance
To bring the beast down
Before the distruction of aden
Anthras has ESCAPED!
15 minutes later, Anthras spawns somewhere in the lands of aden.
Or this could apply to anything else.. just an example.
Double his xp/sp and drop chance not to mention his difficulty and hp. Something that reguardless of what any one alliance does, is no way in hell going to be able to take it down by themselves, or even when allied with 2 full aliances. Something that'll require hundreds of people to help with.
This could be presented to the newbies as well.
Call it a suggestion or something to tie everything together.
I just want to see some active player gms.... that aren't sitting around answering petitions all the time, that want to introduce random and completely off the wall things. Everyone wants to get away from the grind, the gankings, the boring grinding events occasionally, to have absalutely amazing fun. Nothing is more fun then getting a call over clan/shout/alliance/hero chat that an event mob or some type has been spotted. Or even needing almost the entire server population to assist.
The first Event Raid boss event, nearly everyone was needed from every town to work a raid boss down. Clan/Alliances that were warred would work together to assist, after majority of the raids were done, pvp would occasionally show up. But not until the raid was over. (course they would be suicidal to try durring as it's not hard to spot a purple quick and figure out if it's a warred clan and to take them down as everyone kinda loses when people don't work together vs a raid)
GMs used to be a lot more interactive - and even with professional events, there are never-ending cries of corruption.
Frankly, I don't think any non-employee of NCSoft should be elevated in position above other players - however, as Splatter suggested, giving a tool for players to help others ingame with questions, would be good.
Instead of getting GMs to /unstick people, they should likely fix the /unstuck command to properly recognise a player being stuck (it doesn't notice when one has passed THROUGH terrain instead of being stuck on it, for example).
As for organising events - it stands to reason that a game with mechanics for players to run events would be cool, but L2 isn't that game; heck, it doesn't even easily have the mechanics for GMs to run events. ;o
Hrmm....in reference to the scamming competition comments. I'm guessing that most of you are completely unfamilair with the politics of Kain. The most infamous clan on Kain would invite pople into the clan, just to figure out a way to steal their equipment over the next 1-2 months. They cheated using just about every method in the book and freely admitted it. Their members have joined clans with the specific intent of destroying the clan from within, for fun. Sadly, they were idolized by many people who only saw the videos or talked to some of their more charismatic members. Even today some people still think they were one of the best clans on the server. Their true legacy was to create an environment in which cheating was accepted by some of the top clans. There is a reason why Kain is earning the nickname "Cheater's Heaven." Scamming competitions have occured between various player/factions before on Kain. For a sickening lesson, go visit the Kain forums on Blah. Might have to go back in the archives a bit since things have quieted down a bit of late, but the stories and evidence is there. So yeah...Freak does have a valid point concerning scamming competitions, and not just simple stores. For the moderators, I specifically mentioned no names or clans in this post.

Gms could easily run events, it's not hard at all for a GM to spawn a mob with a set predefined characteristics.
I mean there is being fair, and then thier is being complicated fair.
The events we see are complicated fair. All basically "thought out" before hand to try and make it so that everyone playing gets a fair deal.
Where as Player Based Gms running about would provide a bit of unbalancing at specific times, if you happen to be in the right place at the right time, all great, but alot of players are not in the right place at the right time.
This is where frequent player based gms would need to be more frequently around.. to give a higher chance of interacting with several people at a time, and a more range amount of them.
I mean, seeing a gm in game is so rare, that it's like seeing bigfoot, hell theres people claiming the person that saw it.. even took a shot of it, are liars (which they aren't). That there just proves how gmless we have been.
I've yet to personally see on the LIVE servers a GM at all, let alone know anyone that has within the last 3 chronicles.
And frankly, any player willing to play the GM role to sacrifice the strickly paying customer player roll wouldn't be an issue.
A player being boosted to GM status and doing nothing but strickly the same ol, same ol, would of course be stupid.
If this were from a roleplayers' review of their last session, I would rub my hands and ask if I could join for the next. In fact, if more people roleplayed, this kind of thing could be fun and exciting for everyone - but of course, the game doesn't foster such things.
PvrJudas, I honestly do not think that interacting with GMs adds anything to the game. Let us agree to disagree here, as there are no arguements that aren't just opinions either way. :)

ok
But you must admit, if we have more random and unknown and sudden events such as just spawning mobs or raid event boss or whatever out of the blue, you gotta admit that would spice things up quite a bit.
Raid bosses spawning suddenly and unannounced definately could be fun, however, the only problem i see with it is some of the aftermath "i died and dropped my armour and player xx stole it!" "I deleveled! i want my xp back! the guy spawned practically on top of me!" and so on. So, maybe if there were no death penalties with the random bosses i'll be fine with it. Otherwise, too much hassle cleaning it up.
the way they do it in helbreath is call everyone from town and spawn tons of mobs. if they announce a few min before they do it then no "favorites" would be there. and if any high lvls come they could teleport them away so they dont ruin. (ex if it was a lvl 20-30 mobs spawn)

exactly where player based gms can constantly prevent tainting it... and raid mobs are passive...
and ontop of that... that's why i mentioned a quick annoucement before doing so
i mean how hard would it be for say any GM on thier lunch break to log in.. walk into giran... annouce it.... it and then 5-15 minutes later.. spawn the mobs and then watch :)
It would be cool if the GMs organized more mini-events like arena fights. They don't even have to do much, just show up at arena and fight. Have fun. It would build a stronger bond with the community.
But whatever... meh, I'm kinda sick of the passive GMs.
