I was gazing through some of the old newsletters from your site and looked at a particular one.... First Newsletter Ever (http://www.lineage2.com/newsletter/newsletter2/L2email1_active/L2email01.html) and near the bottom, it says "Character Transfers in the works". Well.. that was may of 2004 and here we are now in July of 2006 and still nothing. What the hell is taking so long?
Your wish has been granted. They have moved the servers from this side of the room to that side of the room. Transfer complete and the bill is in the mail.
Thats the only reason i carried playing on sieghardt. Me and my RL friend started up the game (beta) and due to bad communication ended up on diffrent servers. I thought, "no biggie, i will carry on here untill they do the character transfers" i waited and waited but it never came >.<
/Signed.
I don't see any reason why people shouldn't be able to switch servers with their toons if they are unhappy with their current server. Many of the arguements that came up at the time this issue was up in the beginning which talked against this option i.e. it would ruin server economy etc, are now completely invalid. The servers economy are in general screwed up and no transfer of character between servers is going to make it worse. So give the players of Lineage 2 what NCsoft initially promised them long time ago.
While this has been debated before, allow me to disagree.
I VERY much do NOT want any server transfers. People establish reputations, transfers would let you avoid yours.
I don't want a bunch of the rejects from other servers popping up and trying to be uber on mine.
Not to mention that you can now start toons on any server you want....so there is your 'transfer'. Sure, you have to level it up, but that is the price you choose to pay.
It only said that they were evaluating it, they didnt promise it. It's no small task to take on, just trying to figure out what they would do with double names.
Anyone ever think about what server transfer's might do to the game itself? The influx or loss of mats/adena/equipment?
How do they predict charector movements? Sure, everyone decides to switch to Kain or Bartz because there popular.
Opps, now i can't log in when i want, switch me back!?
Opps, i Pked the wrong person and now im getting Pked! Move Me!
Whats a good reason for a switch? How many times are you allowed to move? Who's name gets changed?
I 150% agree. This game is in dire need of server transfers or server merges. The population on some servers is to low to have an enjoyable gaming experiance.
NCSoft NORTH AMERICA READ THIS. I AM WILLING TO PAY YOU $MONEY$ TO LET ME TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SERVER.
NCSOFT NA WE WANT TO GIVE YOU $$$MONEY$$$!!! For Server Transfers. THIS MEANS YOU WILL MAKE $$$$$$MONEY$$$$$$!!!

Well, that's the thing. I can completley understand why people would want to leave their servers, but would they be moving to a better server? It might be possible that it would be a "grass is always greener" scenario.
And servers can change. New players come all the time.
And what if, unbeknownst to the person fleeing, that the type of player they are escaping from might not also be relocating.
So does that mean that server transfers should be more than a "one time thing"?
Alot of people have made friends with other people that play l2 also the reside on seperate servers but WISH to reside on the same to play together.
Alot of people want a less populated server as well.
Alot of people want a more stable or a better connection to a specific set of server(s). Depending on your location, it's like night and day moving from servers 1-4 to server 5-9
Some people want a more populated server,
imo the balance would be thier..
a first come first serve system will work as well, if a population on a server is within 15% of it's maximum capacity, disallow transfers to that server, if it's below, then allow up to that 15%.
They could also show recommended servers to transfer to, How much room is on each, allowing a person to figure out if it would be wise or not.

Server transfers on WOW have been a huge success, with Blizzard making a $gajillion with the transfer fee. If NCSoft wanted some big $$ for doing almost nothing, they could do it too. I understand their issue with server merges (castles, clan halls, etc.), but if someone just wants to transfer their toon, no such issues arise. Wake up, NCSoft, and collect your free money!
High level players on Gustin have been wanting a server merge since C1. These days I doubt many play there because they want to. They play there because they are stuck there.
If they ever approve transfers, it'll probably be something lame like "Attention Players: You can transfer a character only ONCE, where ever he ends up will be his home for all eternity, so choose wisely. Oh, and there's a 50,000,000 adena pricetag on such a move as well. Thank You for Playing Lineage 2!". Or something like that... :p
Yeah, everyone I know would really like the option of server transfers. It would be nice if they would have a poll where they could have people vote on it to show what the majority would like to see and try to give their paying customers as much satisfaction as possible.
ya right players (in general) aren't loyal enough to there clans as it is you'ld be lucky to have a 20 man clan that would last longer than a monther....but the merg of all servers into one would be so so awsome ...(need more lands and castles though
