Pollen drop rate

General Discussion Started Last reply 68 posts
I'd just like to know one thing from the powers that be at NC, which should answer alot of questions.

Why is the drop rate for items like pollen so scarce? Just what is NC afraid of with a plentiful drop rate that they are going to flood the market?

I'd like to know....

/Looks at Mistryl
It couldnt have been that low of a rate. feihkftoat on Gustin is selling 1000 of them as we speak for a great price of 65k each
Greetings,

Why is the drop rate for items like pollen so scarce?

Because, you don'T get pollen on the boards. You have to actually hunt mobs in game to get them.

They aren't dropping in elmore at all...
there is already a few threads on this and you have posted in all of them the same complaints/questions. Your questions have been answered and mistryl said ncsoft will not comment on any drop rate. Once again, lets just recap what has been said

Ncsoft will not release drop rates or discuss them
In the past events have been critisized for too many drops
The majority of daytime North America players are robotic in type
The majority of night time players in North America are normal players and the drop rate is hugely increased.
NCsoft favors north america timezones on north america servers

you already have these answers and you wont ever get anything else.

.

She said they cann't talk about the rate of those drops, but didn't say she couldn't talk about them.

And i cann't think of any event of this nature where NC got criticized for too many drops, just the reverse it has been the lack of drops.
The droprate code for events is coded in Korea. Korea really only has one "primetime", as does the other L2 territories. So they set the droprates during the height of that playing time to prevent exploiting by people either cheating or playing very long time (farming or otherwise).

Now this affects NA in a bad way, since we're the only L2 territory that spans so many time zones (6 in the US, 2 in Europe, spanning 11 hours time in total), but I honestly doubt NCSoft NA can change this.

They aren't dropping in elmore at all...

Oh yes, they do.

I got 1 pollen in over an hour of playing killing light blues and greens. No they aren't.....
I've got over 200 pollen saying they are.
Tell me what area your finding that at, and i'll go there on my server. :)
Time of day is everything. During 12 AM to 6 AM hours EST (yeah I couldnt sleep last night) I probably got 100x normal pollen drops.
Pollen drops everywhere from every mob all at the same rate, which is extrememly random. I find that no matter where i'm hunting it is very spuratic and I get times where I get a dozen or so in a row and then nothing for an hour. There are no mobs that drop more than others nor less than. Either you are lucky or you are not. I am right in the middle. I've gathered about 200 pollen total in approximately 30 hours of hunting. It takes a long time to gather a significant amount.
During normal hours the pollen drop rate is abysmal. It's possible not to find a single one in two hours. However if you hunt between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. EST you should find pollen drops much more frequently (according to a three day observation, I could be somewhat off).

DM and I tested a level 60 and level 20 group of mobs at the same time and found that we both acquired pollen at roughly the same rate, and quite frequently at that during the peak hours listed above.
I found over 450 pollen. I sold about 300 for 20k each and got like 5.8 mil lol...

The prices have dropped but you still make really good money off it. Apparently the soul crystals drop often sinc players really want those pollens to create big ones with their clan to get lvl 12 and 13 crystals.

However if you hunt between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. EST you should find pollen drops much more frequently

Ding! Ding! Ding!!!

How many events do we have to do before people GET this? Every single event is like this. Medals, Letters, Pollen/Nectar, X-Mas parts . . .
And i ask, why are we making these event drops time based

And i ask, why are we making these event drops time based

I think this actually helps the REAL players who work 9-5 (or whatever), so the PLAYERS don't really make that much more then them during their 24/7 shifts. You really only have to play during the hot times to get an acceptable number of pollens.

Obviously this does the EUROs no good on most of the servers, but the EURO server does have an appropriate "hot" time AFAIK.
I can give plenty of reasons, but personally I think they're all terrible. There should be a normalized drop rate throughout the entire event.

I just want to make sure that people are in fact aware of the event drop times, so that they at least have some chance of participating. Unfortunately with such a limited time frame it's possible for some people (especially Europeans) to miss the event completely.

Edit: Not that Europeans are the only ones that suffer during this. Even some in NA can't play during these times for some reason or another.

That's a terrible reason to center drops around a specific time. If they simply normalized the drop rate (ie: lowering it during the peak hours and raising it for normal hours) then the farmers/bots would end up with the exact same pollen count anyway. At the same time, all players from all timezones would be able to participate in the event and actually see a few large squash.

The reason is much less complex. Korea decided to do it, and thus we get the same.
I'd still like to see some form of offical reply to this.

Are the pollen drops varying during the time of the day, do we indead have a prime time drop rate?
Mistryl stated in the official event thread that they would not give out any official info on drop rates (even for something like this). I can tell you with 100% certainty that the drops do vary depending on the time of day, and I'm also fairly sure (though not 100%) that the times I listed earlier are the peak drop rate hours.
Well, when it comes down to the end of the event. And mistryl puts up the poll.

I know how i'm voting
Complaining about events.... how original.
Thats cause... The drop rates in elmore suck.
The drop rate is high right now, and I'm also an orc in Elmore at the moment.
hmmm...

you guys havent figured it out yet?

NCSoft works on PRIME time scenarios with these drops. Or at least that what it appears to me at the moment. Two of us were commenting at how many drops we were getting. Then, nothing. The drop rate dropped drastically. The longer I played still nothing. Then, when the Europeans started coming online (NA here) the drop rate started picking up as more and more players (TEON) started to arrive.

I believe this was mentioned a long time ago about NCSoft picking times to increase certain drop rates. DOH! What a bunch of garbage. Anyways, next time you get an increase in drops, check what time your on and prove me wrong. There is definitely a trend here that isnt mentioned.
Well, I was online for several hours every day since the event started and killed mobs. I won't be online again until downtime tomorrow, so the event is basically over for me now. I got JUST enough pollen to create ONE large pumpkin, and it turned out to be a low quality one with crap drops.

This event officially sucked for me, and most of my clannies are in the same situation (if they pool their pollen, they will maybe get one large pumpkin, too). It is insane that you can play for several hours each day, i.e. actively participate in the event, and the rewards are THIS low. Whoever came up with this "drop chance based on time" crap deserves a good kicking. At the last pumpkin event, I managed to do at least one large one and several small ones PER DAY.

No matter what NCSoft thinks, a huge amount of their customers IS NOT online during US prime time.
The only thing i wanted to add was....

No matter what NCSoft thinks, a huge amount of their customers IS NOT online during US prime time.

Your prime time maybe different from my prime time. A standardized drop over time is better as it takes into account everyone.

lmao, what is your basis for this 'fact'. You basically made it up and think its true. Take teon out of the mix and the vast majority of people are in north america whether you want to believe it or not.
tonight seems much much higher then last night. in my case anyway.
not just pollen but Ive recieved 2 whole D grade drops. Nothing big
Bronze Gaiters and Iron Plate Gaiters. not bad considering those were the first decent D grade drops ive recieved since level 20

well it goes no grade is common, d grade is semi common, c grade is fairly rare, b grade is rare, a grade is very rare and s grade i have no idea.
My 7pm CST isn't your 7pm PST, and as been said. Everyone isn't in the same time zone. What works for one doesn't work for everyone.

Just what are you saying?
I did three levels on my new noob and got 6 pollen. That's at least 400 mobs. Very very bad.

At the last pumpkin event, I managed to do at least one large one and several small ones PER DAY.

Yea? Well, the drops were dropping the same exact way during that event too. And L2Day, and Medals, and X-Mas . . .

"same as it ever was . . ."

all my points have been stated. Once again, 6pm-1pm cst works for the majority. Not to mention the people that work a normal 9-5 job are probably the most who have to spend on video games so probably best to keep them happy. There is no point in arguing, the pollen drops the same as the coin event and the same as a lot of other events and for some reason this is the only time people have thrown a huge hooplah about it.

No.
Last pumpkin event the nectar sold in private stores for 1k-2k. This time they sell for 20k-25k, sometimes even more. That alone should be enough to show that the drop rate is NOT the same.

this is the only time people have thrown a huge hooplah about it.

The first time?..... We have debated the drop rate on every event.
This is the first event I've participated in that the drop rates have been varied so extremely. Granted, the drop rate could have been different and I just didn't notice it before. But on L2Day I had no problem acquiring letters at any time of the day, I didn't pay much attention to the actual rate as I was always getting letters.

Fast forward here to the pollen event, and several times I've receieved zero pollen during an hour of hunting during the non peak hours. They might as well say "Pollen will be dropping from the 21st to the 25th during x and x time", as it's difficult to call it a 5 day event when it simply is not one.

i really wish they were this straight forward with events. maybe some day

´

Even if that was true, even american players don't necessarily play during that set primetime, not to mention there are 6 different timezones in all of US if you get down to it.

Heck, I don't know any american that played during the prime droptimes of the events.
Well I played almost all day today, including at prime time and ended up with a grand total of 13 pollens. Sadangryface. :/ i got some decent stuff so it's not too bad but ... well. I got A LOT more last time.

how is this even possible...where are you grinding? I have switched spots 5 times since the event started and always got high drops during prime time
I found that timing, mobtype and player activity in the area all play a vital function.

SO hunt them during peak times and if mobs dont drop them switch mobs. If you see a lot of players in the vicinity then move away as well.
i thought it was a very balanced non market crashing event that still handed out good bonuses, serious congrats here no crying from me.

Time of day is everything. During 12 AM to 6 AM hours EST (yeah I couldnt sleep last night) I probably got 100x normal pollen drops.

This is the time I play mostly, and it's still pretty slow for me. Weird
The problem of course is that they did the same events ( letters, rabbits, pumpkins) last year.
It means we can compare this years events to the ones from last year, which had much higher droprates.
Im not sure if people would complain about droprate if we had the pumpkin event for the first time.

Why should that even matter? Seriously, why should the time of day, mob type, people in the vicinity, how I brushed my hair, what armor I'm wearing (yes I'm being sarcastic) matter in the drop rate? They are making the event NOT FUN by having everyone second guess how to get the **** drops.
I hunted Orc champions and shamans in that nice little spot north of Dion. I was getting about 1 pollen drop per every 10 mobs. That was at around 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. pst. I have made a few million in 3 days of selling them. I dont participate in many events so I cant say about the past ones but this one was just fine for me.

I didnt have to second guess, I figured out the time frame the first day and was succesful on each day after with different mobs. You seem to know what you're doing but I honestly cannot believe you got that many nectar unless you were sharing between a 9 person party or hunting very high hp mobs and killing them slowly. The best way to do this event was to quickly make a low level nuker and go to town with a recharger. There is always a way to make events work for you...if you just want to grind and grab whatever rewards may come, thats fine but if you want to focus on rewards from events there are always better ways to go about it.
How can you do an event WRONG? That's what I want to know?? So I played at the wrong time during the event? I killed too slow? I killed the wrong mobs? Wrong area? Surely you all are joking. This wasn't the find a rabbit event, this was kill mobs for stuff event. Time, and area should not matter.

Go ahead and say it does though, and I'll say THAT SUCKS. Having an event for a handful of days where drops are only good maybe 5 hours a day is not good.
You didnt play it wrong necessarily, you played it inefficiently. Also, they are good 7 hours a day which is almost 1/3 of a full day. You may say it sucks but maybe you just need a job then wont mind as much :)
I think the whole point of this is not that people can or can not play efficiently to gather the Pollen drops...But the fact that a very many people simply can not get online to play During these ""peak" times that NCSoft NA has deemed as the appropirate time to allow the Event materials to drop.

Sry but I have a life beyond L2, why do I feel as though I am being punished becuase I have to work the graveyard shift in RL and not spend 8 hrs grinding my toons?

If the only time I can get on is between 8 am - 4 pm EDT and the drop rates are artificially lowered, guess I'm screwed then.

While I love this event and the rewards associated with it I am very ****** at the lowered drop rates compared to the Pumpkin Event.

3 hrs of non stop grind with a sub 50 SH and 2.5 lvl's gained on White and Yellow mobs and I got a whopping 14 Pollen drops. >.<
its not only the pollen drop that messed up.

so we european players have to play from 1 am to 9 am only to get a fair chance on a drop (full/keymat/whatever) ?

making peaktimes for US players suxx imo, because way more europeans on gustin...

making peaktimes suxx overall... i pay .. i wanna play .. when I !!! want...

we noticed this long time ago, thats like impossible to get any mats/spoils/... during the whole time arround.

got last nite after 1am 4 fulldrops + a ****load pollen , the 10 hours before 27 pollen and nothing, like always.

thats not the right way NC ...... /drop job
Don't be a tool, I do have a job. Not that it even matters, so why bring that up? I could just as well be Euro or some kid that sleeps during peak times and plays on "off hours". Doesn't matter.

In fact I play generally 3 hours a day at "prime" pollen drop times. I also played during the last pumpkin event and there was something seriously wrong with the drops this go around.
oh ellie, u so crazay
I got up at 7 am this morning, after going to bed at about 2:30-3am last night.

I farmed about from about 7:30 till about 11:10 when the servers went down. stopping only to get Css and a drink here and there.

I played with the play style don't pick up drops till after about the 3rd buff round then pick them up...in the right places you can do it with fast mob respawn times, and make out like a bandit. I started lvling at 7:30 with 22% I'm now a lil over 60 something %. and in that whole time frame; I made a waping 32 pollens, thats it folks. after farming like mad I made 32 pollens.

The drops is seriously too low. specailly for 4 day event.

Let me tell ya the economy hasn't changed one bit from this event on Kain, EW/c which has a ton of them now is still going for 1.2-1.5 mil.

EW/D is going for 450k, they droped a tad.

But as a whole this event changed nothing!!

i thought it was a very balanced non market crashing event that still handed out good bonuses, serious congrats here no crying from me.

Balanced? LMAO. I was looking forward to this event because it would give the severely overpriced selling EW & EA sellers (and all the other frequent squash drops) a nice kick in the but, but guess what.

Because most players on gustin actually seem to be European or in the "wrong" US timezone, the legit players get very little pollen and therfore squash while the non-legit ones are getting litterally hundreds.

The fact is that on Gustin because of this event the Major market players in the game have actually managed to drive UP the prices of EW & EA even more, instead of the price actually dropping to a more normal price. Sometimes by even another 20 % on top of the already established "top market price" before the event.

GG!
I dont know timezones at all . So i just used the game time, when there was a moon i hunted got 80 pollen :) . when the sun was up on the map i hunted and got 50 :(or so. I think the night time in game gave more drops. Total pollen on all the days i was able to play was 175 or so.This was all green mobs real quick kills 1 shots mostly, spamming bsps. :o.

Nikwillig go devianne
The drop rate of pollen is now obsolete, since it is no longer dropping.
The peak hours didn't last 7 hours.

The peak hours didn't last 7 hours.

Yes, it did sorry to say. I tested it every night except saturday night when I was out. 6pm-1am cst. Right around 1am things start really slowing down.
lol at you guys... c and d-grade stuff= who cares?
Thats around the time where its increased, but the peak time is much less time, there isn't just an "on/off" time for the event, there's several different tiers of droprates.

lol at you guys... c and d-grade stuff= who cares?

u think all euros lvl 20 - 40 ? poor nublet :p

yes, there is, 6pm very high 7pm very high 8pm very high 9pm very high 10pm very high 11pm very high 12am high 1am medium 2am-5pm low-very low

There you go mr technical.
