How do I convert a video I do in game into something I can manipulate outside of game? I'm not very technically minded so go easy on me with the jargon
but if you record the game using ingame recorder first, no names or tags are shown...and i can't use fraps normally because my computer isn't good enough for it to fun during PvP
Then you'd probably have trouble manipulating the files anyway, I end up with 10-15 gigs of movies if not more before I'm done with the finished product, plus the rendering. I use fraps and Sony Vegas by the way.
Like i said your have to talk to EllieBelly.... But it sounds like you need an upgrade.
And i would guess most have two hard drives.... So they can write to the drive during recording and it won't affect the game thats on the other hard drive.
If you want to make movies, set Ingame gama to 5, don't even TRY to record without set the game to this, the darkness make the vid looks horrible othervise.
Secondly play at a lower resolution usualy help things, 800x600 preferly if your able to, 1024x768 works fine to abow this is not really usefull to record in.
Also spare us from 1/2 size vids, the quality of this just become to nasty and horrible.
Anyhow thats hte most important points if you ask me, also I doubht many will go and watch vids with no clan tags and so on, not that appeling ^^.
Also some examples who describe the problems I just mentioned: http://lineage2.mugimugi.org/ex3.avi (Gama set to 3 ( standard ) and recorded in half-size... you can barly get anything out of this vid ) http://lineage2.mugimugi.org/ex2.avi (Gama still set to 3 but beter then ex3 but still not good enought ) http://lineage2.mugimugi.org/ex1.avi And this is when gama is set to 5, :P it was nightime when this was recorded but still you see everything just clearly.
Yep I have two drives. If your computer is ok you can get away with one, I didn't always have two. When I record for sieges and things though I turn off all sounds, it seems to help the lag a lot.
I currently try to record with fraps @ full resolution @ 1280x800 with a set 37.5 FPS record rate.
My ingame gama is set at average (setting it higher makes it to bright and washed out looking, it would actually be better @ one notch below average).
I've got every quality settings maxed out mind you.
And my native resolution is 2560x1600, so before recording @ full resolution, i have to set it back to 1280x800 or else i get a 1280x800 video that is impossible to tell what anything is still (due to being half resolution, but actuality, 1/4)
The gama settings is VERY dependant on your video card and monitor settings, LCDs are becoming the norm in which are DVI connected and produce a picture perfect color/brightness. This is why Average is being used. CRTs however very from being excessively dark to excessively bright with no happy medium (enless you spend a large amount of money on a proffesional CRT).
Recording @ 1280x800x32 with 37.5fps as my set record rate, requires ALOT of hardware read/write bandwidth and not to mention overall power, cause your not only punishing your machines cpu/ram/hardrive by recording, but by running the game at it's capacity to render the world around you.
I could theoretically record 2560x1600 resolution video @ 30fps (roughly 350-400MB/s hardrive bandwidth alone required to process that much information).
If fraps ever managages to incorporate even a little bit of compression, it'll help hardrive bandwidth, but increase CPU usage. Majority of peoples problems with recording is the fact that hardrive bandwidth is still very low (even though the size of room left is massive).
Half resolution sucks, no body can REALLY appreciate it enless your not really showing off anything that really needs the detail of high resolution.
Virtual Dub is an excellent cheap (free) and versitile utility to modify and cut up and changeup video and audio as you please.
And Windows Media Encoder 9+ is also free that provides a rather excellent HD WMV format that most people can easily watch and is heavily compressed file without killing video quality yet.
Course you can spend a fair bit of money on more suitable higher quality programs.
Also, Fraps, dedicate at least 100gb+ of space (if possible a seperate partition) for it. You can burn through several Gigabytes of space instantly.
There is NEVER a good enough exvuse to use WMV. XVid and H.264 can always produce better, smaller results that don't use Microsoft proprietary codecs.
actually thier is if you can get the proffesional WMV encoders.
I use xvid/divx/and other encoders.
Out of all of them, DivX is the only encoder that most people can decode without having to download it all the time. Xvid however alot of people and i must stress ALOT of people don't have and don't care to even bother downloading. They just delete the video and find something else.
WMV however every has, (windows media player installed with windows). Doesn't matter what wmv encoder you have, windows media player has ever WMV Decoder.
The high Definition WMV Encoder will crush a 1280x800 @ 37.5 fps raw avi file that is lets say 5 minutes long weighing in at roughly 15Gb in size. Shrinking the file size while perserving majority of the quality from 15Gb to a 200Mb file. Frankly the best i could do with the same file using XVid and DivX getting idenitcal quality was usually sitting around 250mb BUT that's with removing ALOT of frames from the video due to some of them defaulting to 29.97fps or lower (imo stupid if you want REALLY fluid video playback).
37.5fps is half of a 75hz refreshrate. But that's not really a huge concern.
Avoid WMV for all cost, why? becose it's limited to a single system, it's not an open format at all. I wuld never ever tutch it. Even if the quality may be good who cares.
It's the same as a few years back by using the gif format, most didnt actually know was that if you did the picture was (C) the creator of the gif format and not you. Just one example.
I for one suport h264 only one problem with it, it's to new and to complicated for most to install and get it to work, specialy as avi containers does not suport what h264 wants.
Divx is mainly hte best format to use as almost everyone have the codec installed. And it also suport for other platforms.
Anyhow seirously you need to set GAMA to 5 if you want the vids to look good, the only way to avoid this is to use the shaders but dosnt really look good.

i'll agree, wmv is limited to windows media player or players that can run it (alot of players run wmvs, even power dvd and the lot).
And alot of DVD Players are now supporting and playing back WMV incoded files that are copy to a disk and not litterly burned onto the disc in a dvd format.
DIVX is probably the most versitile though.
Btw, this is a video HEAVILY compressed with a simple wmv encoder (nothing to snazy). full resolution, 1 minute long and weighing in at under 6mb in size. (i beleive 30fps to if i recall right).
It was made to simply demistrate a very strange STRANGE issue where my duals and glaives were stuck apon each other somewhat. The problem was oventually fixed however.
