I've read several of the guides available for findig Tomba in the Scavi quest, but have some questions. Can I hunt in the coal mine room where he is supposed to show up to wait him out or do I have to "find" him there when I enter the room? Also, how long does he stay in one place? I've tried teleporting around to find him, but have had no luck finding him after 2 hours of play. That's why I figured I'd wait him out. Any help for this noob would be appreciated.
I've not had to do this myself (I have an Arti) however I did help a friend do it and we found the easiest way was to have a toon at each point. If this isn't possible for you then I think it's a case of either run between the three spots or recruit a couple of friends to give you a hand, he must be at one of the spots. Toma seems to be random although there are suggestions he spawns to any of the three locations every half hour.
With regard to hunting and waiting for him, idk, but I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to

If he isn't there, you can hunt there since they should be white/green to you at that level. He'll just suddenly appear while you are there. There's no affect on his teleportation if people are in the area.

Bring SOEs and a couple Haste potions.
(1) Take Haste Potion and port to Abandoned Coal Mines. Run to the room where he is at. If not there, SOE.
(2) Port to Northern shore. Run South to Mithril Mines entrance. If not there, SOE.
(3) Port to Northern shore. Run Northwest to the island he appears on. If not there SOE. Go back to (1).
Chances are you will see him the first time through. It takes less than 20 minutes to go all 3 places. You SHOULD be able to do it in 10.
