Ok so Im lookin thru the forums and how in the world do u guys get yur characters up to lvl 78 and 77! I mean one character that high...ok i can belive that but people with multiple max'd lvld players...how do u do that. I lvled my DA to 52 in about 3 weeks from 29. And then i got bored of it. How do u stay interested?
most of them have been playing since prelude. thats about 2 1/2 years of playing. plenty of time to reach those lvls. Also pvp, sieges, new skills, and just all around fun playing with friends kept me in this far.
I would probably say that "yes" it's becuause they have been playing since Prelude (heck... I've been playing since prelude) but also that they have made it a conscious decision to make this game their social life.
partying, chatting and setting goals for mycelf. this helps me to stay on the grind. My toon can also do different things, so I can change playstiles as well.
I know! It was great in the beginning then u realize u have no PVP ability and yur like oh no biggie i'll just do PVE but then u realize it takes 20 minutes to kill 1 mob. lol. and you look for for groups and everyones like : we dont need no stinkin tank" its so lame.
i feel your pain, brother! My da has been at lvl 50+ for over 3 weeks----I just can't face the grind right now. SOME clan activities have me at 80% of the level so 51 is finally right around the corner--then just another 6 months and I'll be at 52!!! woohoo!
Seriously, I play earlier in evening than my clanmmates so I'm often alone.
The patk on DA is pathetic, the "special" is a joke (same lvl 9 Power Strike available to human fighter at lvl 15), and they just don't hit hard enough or fast enough to grind very fast (:.
Tough sledding (and that's with an oe sls with special borrowed from clanmate!).
I think the folks who have reached A-grade are pretty impressive and those folks that are in 70's are clearly the game's best imo!
The good news is--you can almost always tell a person with a DA main..........they have alts that continue to be leveled regularly :)
Yea i know. I lvled pretty ezily up until 50 cuz i had a +10 sls. lol. Which when i finally hit 40 on my Rogue ima trade in for a +10 EMI OMG so awesome!!!! lol. neways yea. DA's seem so cool cuz of the panther but they just need upgraded skills. i mean give us sum "basic" I mean BASIC offensive skills and it would be ok. I mean we dont need to be a DD just make us actually a threat. PLZ! I would totally bring him back from retirement.

Hawkeye's are definitely one of the better classes out there. I personally decided to use a Gladiator after I found my Dark Elf was freaking weak. I was going to go SK and of coarse I totally forgot that the Dark Elves have the worst HP in the game. :p So I decided to play a class that I know is more fun, and a Gladiator is definitely fun. I've had one before and man I love them. My highest level character though was a Spell Singer, never was able to get into one again. I think after that I've played Hawkeye, Treasure Hunter, Overlord, and a few others. So far Gladiator is my favorite.

It's probably because you are not thinking about it in the right context.
Very few people find the grind "fun". They do however enjoy what comes along with it. For some it's the interaction with clan or group mates, for others it's attaining a specific goal.
For myself? I find it relaxing and contemplative. I usually put on some good music (been currently listening to a Classical Guitarist by the name of Paul Galbraith. He recently put out a CD with the music of French Composers, arranged for 8 string Guitar) make some coffee and think and relax.
So the grind never is an issue for me.
I suggest you either get into a group or change your "leveling paradigm".
This is not to say that there aren't classes which might be "less interesting" to level. But I believe that if you are invested in your character then you will become more interested in his/her progress.
Personally this next week im goin to check out the PTS then level my gladi to A grade (ill be on about 7-10hrs a day for the next 2 weeks lol). And the grind is less of a pain if you have friends like for me its my old officer buddies from HG that pass the time and of course alot of the HG clannies in general. My theory:
To get to a high level you must have friends to pass the time with or you will get bored and quit.
Well my first and most importaint question to you is, do you want to be a tank or a DD. DDs kill more in pvp but they necissarly don't always have more fun.
Also you say u are lvling slow. Well I will tell you what our lvl 62 DA told me in our clan. First he says it depends greatly on your friends, and even more greatly on the clan you are in. He says he loves how when we do raid bosses he acts as the shield for 40 or more people. He is the life of everyone at the raid party. Frankly he just loves tanking.
Now this is how he levels. I will tell you his B grade setup so you can lvl well. He used a AoBA (forgot the SA but I think it was acuracy??) and Doom Armor for lvling. He could solo just fine with shots and with his panther using shots. For raids he used some C grade axe that gives health bonus. He told me that if you are having lotsa problems lvling get urself a PvE setup.
He never tried getting Blue Wolf armor or ect for PvE, he always and still does wear doom heavy (trying to craft his NM tho). DON'T +++ CON. At least not yet. CON makes you uber tank, but if you want to lvl faster +++STR. Like get a +3STR -3CON. Now because of this tat you won't be the best at tanking anymore, but...you will hit harder. And if you wanna really be interesting you can either grab Blue Wolf (like I said, I dunno what this will do) or be a bit more safer and Grab Zubei (++def and HP but no -CON). With that setup you and your panther will kill a lot better. The axe gives acuracy ( all blunts give acuracy) the +++STR lets you hit harder. And your panther is a little powerhouse.
Now you are probally saying, oh man...that is expensive. And it is! Get ur clan to help you out. We love our tank, thats why the clan chipped in to buy him is DLE. Or just keep ur current setup and go lvl with a nuker. If you wanna be real adventerous go find 1/2 HP mobs, tank them all...grab a SE and a nuker and AoE the crap outa em.
DA is a nice class, but it takes someone that really wants to be a tank and not a killing machine to play.
Oh and ur question about high lvls!
Clans! That is what keeps it going. Using Vent or TS helps alot when talking to peeps. When I don't talk to peeps I listen to music. I just don't always log in and GRIND GRIND GRIND. Log in sometimes and go to the arena (unless you can actually go and do war pvp or whatever), have ur clan sign up for seiges, do raids, look around town hoping to find that really good treasure. Yes lvls are nice, but there is so much more.
For me, right now, it is collecting my A grade materials and Ancient Adena (I need this for various things ATM). Don't feel rushed. Don't think you need the best when you can get it. HELL I don't even think I will have my DC robes before I hit lvl 70, lol. Just find the right people, and don't make it a job.
That is how you lvl to 70+ legitly. There are ppl that lvl in other ways, but you will get banned for this. So is it worth it? No not really?
Just enjoy it! Maybe a DA isn't the best class for you. At first I hated my spellsinger. I hated lvling it, because of the dumb downtime, and my weak nukes. But now I love it! I get parties with my clan. I like how the spells look! I just like being a nuker (most of the time), but I am going to sub a Destroyer... :eek:

Just try to look at grinding from a diferent angle. I mostly play alone due having diferent time zones with my clan. So thats why I chose a DA....they include a mini DD.
Since I don´t participate much in parties or raid bosses I go with a more attacking kind of tank, +STR -CON with a focus sword like the damascus.
That way I kill faster....but don´t get me wrong, even if you have an offensive configuration, you are still a tank.
I try to compete with myself to tray to gain as much exp between panther times (25 mins)...soy I try to focus on heavy grinding in those 25 mins and then relax until healed for the next round. Watching TV...music...alcohol :eek:
Perhaps a tank wasn´t your thing...I´ve tried a lot of characters and I just love tanks.
Just make sure the friends you find know how to use their tank. You have to be the one that gets priority on healing. I have a lvl 62 DA that i parked because the friends I had that knew how to treat the tank, all quit L2, and I had trouble finding new ones that knew how to treat the tank. You know if you are in the right circle of friends when you are not the first to die.

well cant say it wasnt hard but i was able to get my paly to lvl 74 today :) yay finally
anyways like someone mentioned .. you might want to consider a pve setup or dd setup(same diff)
at lvl 64 grinding started gettign too slow so i switched over to +4str - 4 con and +5 dex-5 con tats that seems like death for a char but with tank's high pdef its still pretty safe
armor and wep i have tallum heavy for +2str -2 con and +8% atck speed and dual kesh kesh for 8% atk speed
on a side note i have a boxed SE that my brother uses no more so its mine now and that helps too >< and i would recommend a staff of evil spirit with btb 5 sa if and when you decide to box a se ( hes usually in karmian since im a tank :p)
but if you can find a live se thats even better since he/she can keep an eye on you health
but with SE buffs, self buffs, and haste pot i get 1100 patck and 1090 pdef 600 atck speed which i belibve matter the most
i stay away from magic mobs(and stun mobs ..-11 con = bad stuns :/) so i dont worry about mdef
and since i live on other side of the world than clan iim almost never needed for raids
but in the off chance i am needed for a raid.. i kept my doom b grade and i use that ( 25% shield block with shield fortress owns all )and a c grade sword with health on it
with weapon sa health and btb 5 i can gte up to 6k hp
this has worked for me and it might not work for you but mess around with you stats and tats if you get a chance .. might find a "balance" that you like.

WHY did you loose the shield? it is your only means of exceptional defence! get a shield, and a tallumn blade w/ haste if you really need attack speed.

and like Lunori i find it hard to find groups
alot of ppl prefer a melee dd over a tank since a melee dd can hold aggro fairly well and does good damage :P
i do enjoy grouping but its hard to find a group willign to trade a melee dd spot for a paladin
