Development Team Q&A

General Discussion Started Last reply 35 posts
The Lineage II Development Team answers your questions! Take a look at this official Development Team Q&A (http://www.lineage2.com/background/dev_qa.html) to read responses to questions submitted by players about Chronicle 5, the future of Lineage II, and more.

Thank you again to everyone who submitted a question here on the official message board!

Q- Mistryl: What inspired the Demon Sword Zariche?

A- Hi Mistryl! Well, usually ideas come from meetings. But to tell you the truth, the Demon Sword Zariche idea came up while we were drinking.

Good stuff.

It was nice to hear a bit from the development team, but I would have liked to see much longer and more detailed answers to our questions. "We're working on it" doesn't always cut it for features that people have been looking forward to for a long time.

I was wondering how on earth they could come up with such a cool idea, now I know.

I think we should write to the korean dev team and institute mandatory drinking during meetings and developing. :D
Awwww i was ganna moke a post about it.

That really REALLY made me LOL.

Some good answers from them....lets see how this plays out.
Nice to see something from the Devs.

It will not distract me from the PTS though!
huh, even though it was short responses they provided a great amount of hope and curiosity. This was really helpful and I am glad to see it ty
O.o No chronicle 6, etc?

Q: crushmaster: Is there an official word on how many chronicles are planned for L2?

A: Hello Crushmaster! Well, I am not sure if you are asking about an actual “Chronicle” or the expansions for Lineage II. I’ll just answer both. Chronicle 5 will be the last “Chronicle” that we will launch. And as long as there are players who enjoy playing our game, we will keep updating Lineage II. I am personally curious about how many expansions Lineage II will have. :)

Interesting response. I'm sure this will just confuse people more than anything. At first blush, it seems like C5 is to be the last major update, but they will continue to patch the game with new features. I was under the impression that C5 was going to be the last "Chaotic" chronicle and they were going to begin a new major storyline with C6.

Or they could mean they will just call the major updates something other than chronicle, say "chapter" or "book" or "part" or something . . .

Really not good when you are less than absolutely clear with your wording. Take the helmet answer for example. That's a **** clear answer on their intentions. That's the kind of answer I appreciate.
The answer indicates that the next major update to Lineage II will not be called "Chronicle", but something new. I hope that clears that up a little!
*whew*
I can almost see the heads bobbing up and down with painted on smiles.

"Oh yes mister customer, we will tell you whatever you want as long as you just go away and do say anything mean.....maybe."
To me, this honestly looks more like an exercise in using words without actually saying anything.
Mistryl had the best question. ^^

what are you talking about? They didnt give details but they did give fairly direct yes and no answers to a lot of questions we were curious about (dwarf improvements, helmets, capes etc)

They did?

Ok then, what improvements if any are going to be made to dorfs?
Who the hell is really curious about capes and helmets?
What other great...even "fairly" direct answers were given?

I think these guys just polititioned that ***, and the best thing is, you fell for it.

To give you secret information regarding visible armor, we haven’t given up on capes yet. :)

Well!

phew... >.<

Well done Mistryl :)
Oh man, that chronicle question scared me

The answer indicates that the next major update to Lineage II will not be called "Chronicle", but something new. I hope that clears that up a little!

It does. That was a bit of a concern as it seemed like they were just going to add "here and there" should subscriptions maintain a certain lvl.

Though the answers were a bit brief, I do believe they gave us a "little" insight on what was on their minds and what they feel were “failed” attempts.

Having said that, I would have loved to have more input regarding issues that we have such as the ranged vs melee dilemma or the fact that the North American Playerbase (at least from what I can see) feels like they are second class citizens. An interesting side note; one of their responses was prefaced with the “Well, Koreans haven’t asked for it but we see no reason it can’t be added” (paraphrased). Draw whatever conclusions you want from that.

One thing I really appreciated was their statement regarding the “Demon Sword of Zariche” (patent pending). When they said that they thought it up while drinking it really made me think of them more like regular gamers who discuss the “hey, you know what would be cool” ideas as opposed to these “craftsman like” drones who just churn out material because it is their job.

In addition, I would like to reiterate that they need to have more “drinking meetings” (with an eye on “healthy and responsible consumption”) because this sword is one of the few “original ideas” that I’ve seen in the game. Quite frankly, I was a bit shocked to have read about it in the first place because so much of the game is “same old – same old”.

I look forward to more of these “new ideas”.

edit: I also look forward to more opportunities to pick the developer's minds. We need this here in NA. I know other games have glimpses of what the developers are working on, even posting some of the material on their sites.

But we hare in NA (including our European Bretheren) usually get info second hand. It's nice to be able to get a feeling of what is to come.
Appreciate the efforts on the Q&A from the NCSOFT NA team, but it wasn't enough. Sorry but that session could have taken all but 15mis of their time to answer. It really should have been much longer and lot more other questions should have been included. We had several pages going before the end of the question submission was cut.

Disappointing.
wow i can't even remember writing my question untill i read it, and it was a nice answer too.

My conclusion: THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM SHOULD DRINK MORE OFTEN!
Well I like the fact that NCkorea actually aknowledges that there is a NA L2...lol...thats nice!

Most answers were very vauge! "Yes we plan on it." was practically the answer to everything, but not telling us what they are planning. So basically they realize the grind is boring and most players hate it, but they haven't put much thought into it yet. Thats what I got from it.

The sword answer was interesting. And it was interesting to hear them say they didn't give up on capes. But we already knew the answer about the helmets.

Also THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for clearing up the "chronicle" question. I mean the main reason I picked this game was because of free expansions, not just because if there is enough players they will patch a problem that they should patch anyway to keep players.

Informative to some degree, but really I wish they would elaborate and actually answer over half the questions. It is better than nothing tho...
OMG...they answered my question about pets!

/faint

Maybe they'll make striders tough enough to take down a Doom Knight!

/starry eyed
/rubs chin

I wanna fly to Korea now! Drinks all around! WOOT!

(Mistryl, thank you for providing an avenue for the Q & A. You're a sweetie!)
Yes, she is a sweetie.

I wonder if she would be willing to include a part 2 in order to get some of the other questions that were asked, answered?
The first question is pretty much the only thing I care. I am quiting the game after this month. I simply can't afford the A gear, not even close, not even remotely, not even a chance. I can ask from clan but I refuse. I can throw in a hundred dollars on eBay but why should I. I am not quiting to "protest" since I scare nobody. Maybe it is a good time to try something new. Hope everybody enjoy the game. I certainly did.
Critical questions left mostly unanswered.

Another almost-expected disappointment.

Nice to know they're not going to fix dwarves.
You're being a bit silly, NCSoft actually did fix a-grade, you can now get them through lifecrystals, which should lower the prices somewhat, especially since every raidboss figher will be converting their life crystals into a-grade helmets.

Dont quit you can afford it anyone in this game can afford anything in the economy. There is just one trick to it though. You have to take time off from grinding and just play the market. In the last 2 months I have gained 1 lvl but have made enough adena to be completley outfitted in A grade wep/armor/jewels. But it takes alot of parients and just setting in town buying and selling. Since you are willing to quit the game totaly then there shouldn't be a problem just setting up a sell or buy store and walking away and checking it every now and then.

Q - Darkmotion: Do you have any plans to implement AFK automated messages?

A - Hello Darkmotion! This feature has not been requested by Korean players . But we don’t see any problem adding this system. We’ll consider it. :)

I think this is the most honest answer of them all thank you for being straite about where changes really come from.

Oh ya and more development meetings after work at the local pub is incouraged.
Thank you and Load for the encouragement. Actually it is the good time to try afk shop while having some real fun on PTS. I have two weeks playing time left. Hopefully I can get a low A weapon by then to continue the game.

Q: uNDeRPaNTS_GNoMe: When … will Dwarves get PVE and PVP skills that are worthwhile? We have been [weakened] with craft shops and common craft.

A: Hello uNDeRPaNTS_GNoMe! We aim to improve the Dwarves more on the economic side of character development.

Mistry can you explain why dwarves got nerfed in this aspect in every single chronicle since lanch, and C5 is no different in this.

We seriously scream for an official responce here, and we won't accept silence now.

Or else that FAQ is a big piles of lies. Becsoe this is not true at all, we have not gained any 'econimic' side effects since start, we where good back then now we got nothing, not even an economic adventage at all. Becose it gets nerfed every chornicle.
Nice to see that they know we exist, although there weren't many questions asked.

I felt my very important Olympiad one was a necessary question given that the Olympiad is not going to work properly here until they change it, or until we get 500-1000 Noblesse per server. That isn't going to happen for a very long time!

Perhaps this Q&A can become a regular monthly thing for us? Top 10 Questions to the Korean devs from each of their communities would perhaps help us have a little influence and show that we have ideas and needs too.

You're being a bit silly, NCSoft actually did fix a-grade, you can now get them through lifecrystals, which should lower the prices somewhat, especially since every raidboss figher will be converting their life crystals into a-grade helmets.

Maybe that fixes A grade but once again dwarves are taken out of the economic situation. This dwarf is about ready to go on strike.

Yup and that is why you(we) don't matter.
What perhaps is going to be the future fix for the increasing bot issue? They're starting to become aggressively appearing in major grind spots making it almost unable to gain decent xp at some points in the day.
most bots will forcelog if a red comes anywhere near them, they stay away for about half an hour seems. Well it cleared my rogues favorite grinding spot last night anyhow :)
