But I'm no the biggest fan of the level difference between grades. Being a legit player (like many or all of you here) you gotta think about conserving adena, and doing so means you can't afford all that SS, or even imagine buying out anything top grade. Though because of either Ebayers, high level friends, or high level mains, I notice the majority of players have top everything in their grade and huge bundles of SS to boot too. This wouldn't get me as much if they never wanted to party, because I'm nearly useless to a player who can kill everything in 2-3 hits. (I'm an rogue right now).
I'm just picturing how much funner it would be if everyone else were on a more equal playing level, though maybe that's just me.
there are things called Quests, and drop farming which make adena problems go away if you work long enough on them.
i support 3 toons with over 200m worth of equipment that i personally farmed. half of which was spent on one weapon +9, but thats beside the point.
how? i see a good purchase when i have a fw bucks in my pocket, and splurge. sell later for more money.
i dont do a lot of quests, but the coin quest at lvl 40 got me my C jewellery set - which sold for a handsome 10m.
you jsut gotta know what to look for in a deal. im in top gear, and i did it without hurting anyone or paying for anything out of my own pocket except for the game time.
Making money can be a bit difficult in this game but it is not impossible. On my Scavenger for example without using the manor, I can spoil bones and iron and make an easy 800k-1mil+ a session. A session for me is usually 5-8 hours. With that type of money you can see that Top C grade can be gotten in less than a month if you play a bit everyday.
The only class I sometimes dont go for top grade is D and C (maybe plated leather is top tho) otherwise d grade doesnt matter and I just get what looks best. The problem with other grades is the only semi-decent armor is always the best of the best and none of the other sets even come close (BW heavy for instance for a melee).
As a bd my weapon choices can range from mid-lower tier to high grade as long as they have focus.

hehe well BW is debatably for only a few classes. melee covers all that isnt a mystic class, but really it wouldnt be a great armor choice for say a tank. its a melee, but the Doom set gives a much better bonus and more effective for the class. likewise i have seen a number of dwarves in Avadon heavy, and a handful of othe assorted classes in zubei heavy.
there are enough armor sets for all grades (excepting S) to customize your look and your stats at the same time.
im a nuker not going to go for avadon in B. i have already a Zubei suit, and a karmian set on layaway in my WH, on top of that i solo in Demon set. i use what i feel like and get a different look and stat combination for each set i wear.
there is no generic be-all and end-all armor or set for any class. you wear what looks good, and get the set bonus as required.
Sure there isnt but there is ones that are going to make you kill signifigantly faster or make you the best that you can be and there are sets that dont do much for you. When it comes down to it +2 str for my bd beats 4975 pound weight bonus of zubei or whatever it is.
Mages are easier because you can use demon/karmian as long as you want. I cant use PL as long as I want because I am in full contact with mobs. Melee's have a definate set choice and the only time it splits in any reasonable manner is at A grade where almost all sets can be at least fairly helpful.
You do realize that raids make a lot of money? Also if you are in a clan that raids you have money. My philosophy is you have a clan that ebays, or a clan that raids...if you have neaither you are a poor clan.
Something else I found out is low level market pre C grade sux! No one buys NG or sells used NG anymore. D grade is a bit better, but it is only for those TOP TOP items. So it is tough for new players.
Best thing is don't spam shots. Try out the manor system a bit. Try to get into a clan that knows how to make money. Start a scavy and spoil animal bone and varnish. This alone will make you tons (or save you tons) depending on how you look at it.
Also it is a false that all players when they can get into the top gear for thier lvl. For example, I am lvl 69 and still in B grade. SoV and Avadon Robes. I could have worn A grade long long ago, but these things take time...lol.
I mean in all reality it is definately possible for a noobie to just grind to lvl 20 with the gear they get from the noobie quests. Use the new player buffs and shots. Actually best is to save up those novice shots for when you are after lvl 10. Just lvl without them until then. Make a low level friend or two and party with them. A party of three and easily kill mobs. I would wait till lvl 10 before grouping. This way you can make adena and drops and also learn your class a bit and get use to the game.
D grade will be tough tho! Dependant on your class I strongly suggest getting a weapon first. Higher mid grade D grade is fine! Only takes 2x shots and really if you have to you can upgrade when you hit lvl 30 or so to a top D grade weapon. Try to get in on raids. Try to find a clan... And most importaint of all, try to find patience. Do as many money makeing quests as you can. If you have the mindset that making money is more importaint than making exp, you will be one happy miser, and in the end will be able to lvl faster and be more satisfied with your accomplishments.
Edit: If you are melee just go Mithril Heavy set with the shield for D grade. This is just as good as brig practically, but A LOT cheaper...you can buy everything from giran armor shop for the whole set. If you are a mage you can just stay in devotion, unless down time gets too great with low mana pool and whatnot, you can then get a knowledge set but it will cost you over 1mil.

The reality is the game allows for you to hunt without using shots or having the top armor or weapons for your grade. There are plenty of people who aren't in the top equipment for their grade that are still effective hunters.
Even though I'm not a poor player, I deliberately take my time to craft the higher grade gear. It's not important to me to have "the next best thing" the minute it drops on the server.
The problem with L2 is that too many ppl are concerned about what everyone else is doing. You have to go at your own pace/speed/development curve. Everything else will come to you in due time. Be patient, but be determined and persistent.
Thanks for the advice Bahumut, I'm already level 25 and have a manticore top and bottom with a Long Bow (mid D grade bow I think). So I suppose I shouldn't be whining much, though the majority of players I run across all have top bows and dual swords with D grade SS/SPS, though I guess I should get to a higher level before I whine so more.
And on the raiding bit, I see alot of people looking for raids and people looking for raiders, and I usually ask to get in though it seems all they ever want is Nukers or SO (I thought being an archer I would count as some form of Nuking or damage dealing, but apparently not)

That's sound and all, and I am making due with what I have and I'm not dreading every moment wishing I had top everything and a billion SS to supply myself with. I just wish there were more players to party with right now
I o/e alot to make money. it sometimes takes a few days to sell the item, but I still make the money!
Right now I just sold off my +8 emi with CS for 70 mil last night, sure maybe I could of sold it a bit higher made about 20 mil more. but I wanted it to sell, and I wanted to push the item.
so now I got almost 80m when my items in my sell shop get sold off.
IDK if I'm do another o/e right now and try to push it, or if I'm just buy my BoP. I mite wait till C5 to get it...where as having more money is more importent.
since your a archer, try this... get a pair of +6 or better duels, a lvl 58 or better SE, and go solo cats with VS turned on. you will lvl alot faster like this, you don't need skills since your crts will kill them very fast. (don't forget you need haste 2 pots. I lvled from 38-40 with a BD like this, the BD was like lvl 42 ATT, only took me 2 hours.)
bro with adena's you make more adena's never forget it and WHY do you need TOP A at 61 B is even better when it comes to PVE and lot cheaper
BBBBBBBBB 4TW A is funny when you PVP a lot and have adena's to spend
