Ill cut to the chase, i dont know what class to play.
I started L2 right when that medal event was 1 year ago, and i quickly realised how profitable those medals were (especially to someone new) so i made several classes to lvl 25 for the sole purpose of farming medals, and also figuring out what class to play
I didnt really find a class i liked (ye i know lvl 25 doesnt really tell alot about a class) and i had little general L2 knowledge, so in my forum lurking every little post that was a whine about a class or a praise about a class had heavy influence on me.
Then i stumbled upon the orc mystic and warcryer path, and somehow i foumd myself level 51 within a few months (then i had a break from start of C4 and until a few weeks ago)
I reactivated my account for C5, before i read about warcryers steal essence getting a +30% MP cost, and this ****** me off majorly, so i decided to make a new class and decided to go for SH. Of cource, i managed to get to 21 or so before i read about the nuker nerfs in C5 (ie 10 second cast time on sleep for one) so now i dont really know what to do/play.
My only high level experience is reading forum threads (mainly on blah) and we all know how objective mmorpg players can be :P so my experience is very limited and im propably easy to affect when it comes to beliefs about the game. ie if a 78 SH said that SH will be useless in C5 due to longer cast time on sleep id propably believe that.
So here is my problem really, seeing as this game requires quite alot of time invested in 1 character to really start to experience its main feature (pvp), picking a allround good character that works well in most areas of the game is important to me.
My 3 most interesting classes are warcryer, tyrant and spellhowler, and here is my concern about these classes and reasons for me being reluctant to play them (wether or not these reasons are justified, remotely true, or pure folley is what i need YOU guys to answer, hence this thread :) )
Warcryer in C5: with +30% MP cost to steal essence, our main nuke, warcryer will be far less effective in 1v1s (Where they are very strong atm) far less effective in open world pvp (where they are strong atm) and has lost the little usefulness they had after they had done buffs in mass pvp, ie using steal essence to damage people.
spellhowler: can no longer use sleep in pve or pvp, so more prone to dying alot during leveling, and since it now is especially useless in pvp will get owned every time by daggers and archers, and will get rooted by tanks so propably owned by those as well
tyrant: aparently good dps some say, yet other people say tyrant dps is crap. aparently good in pvp under 60% (with that crit totem) can tyrant kill mages ? how are they in 1v1, open team pvp, and sieges, respectively ?
Ok, these are my concerns/assumptions from my (limited) game experience, please comment on the various statements made.
Maybe neither of these 3 classes is what i want ?
I guess im looking for a class that is good, not necessarily best, in these areas (not necessarily all at once)
- 1v1 pvp (not particulary important)
-field pvp/team pvp/clan wars roaming around in aden
-sieges (!!)
-decent soloer, at least until the teaming stage, which is like lvl 52?
- wanted in teams
I know this is a long read, but id apreciate if you took the time to answer, maybe come with suggestions
Note: my understanding of dagger classes, and their stereotypical mmorpg role, is ganking (ie coming out of stealth or running in very fast, and killing people very quickly) this playstyle doesnt really appeal to me, but im not sure how well it applies to L2. Rogue in WoW is the ultimate gank class for example, dropping out of stealth when they stab and stun someone in the back, leaving their oponents defenseless, then killing them in a few blows, the ultimate 16 year old griefer class. Is this how daggers are in L2 ? (except the stealth part)
DO people not have a Mind of their own this days
but ok i give you some tip's
1.first check what kind of weapon you like
2.play a class that use that weapon you like to 20 (VERY INPORTEND)
3.if you liked to 20 go to 40 if you still like the class KEEP it
4.Level 75 IS a LONG WAY before you be enable to sub and you cant sub anything
5.if you dont give a **** and pick a class someone picks for you odds are you reroll in 3 months
From what yoru saying, you have a BIG advantage over other players trying to pick a class. You said you played a bunch of toons till level 25. Thats a great start. What you get out of that, is what basic play style do you like to play?
- nuker
- melee (up close and personal)
- archer
- buffer/healer
Ask yourslef the question: what one did you enjoy playing the most (even if it was only till lvel 25 ish)
Once youve figured out that then you take your other gaols into account.

Now I will teel you what I tell everyone else thats looking for a class:
Choose the class that YOU like to play
If they get nerfed/boost in C5 it DOES NOT MATTER
As Abisha said, if you dont play the class YOU like to play, you will end up rerolling 3 months latter.
Then i stumbled upon the orc mystic and warcryer path, and somehow i foumd myself level 51 within a few months (then i had a break from start of C4 and until a few weeks ago)

Sounds to me you liked playing a WC. It fits all your criteria.
If you like playing one, and your just ticked off that its getting a nerf in C5 and thats why your rerolling, IMO, stick with the WC.
If I played L2 only to roll in PvP and play overpowered class I'd go Necromancer, I took a bit more difficult way and I went PR (I love the debuffs!) :)
If you want interesting class go Tyrant, Phantom Summoner or Abyssal Walker.
Ignore all the what's "best" crap and play whatever you find fun. The problem arises if you only find "best" to be what's "fun".
I made a warlord because I'm fairly suicidal in any game I play, I get a real buzz out of charging into a horde of nukers and popping off an aoe stun. I don't "pwn" any classes, but in certain situations I'm a useful utility.
Out of your options, I'd almost recommend Tyrant as the totems and flexibility makes it a really intricate and complicated class.
I have given this matter a fair amount of thought, id never roll say a prophet if there was a few posts saying "prophet rocks" :)
I didnt say i wanted the BEST, but if this game didnt have pvp i wouldnt be playing it, ie im int it at least partially for the pvp, so i do like a class that performs decently in this area
Im definately leaning towards SH or WC, wanna play both, they both have their pros and cons :)
I just got BtM + an overhit nuke and a life refiller nuke on my SH-to-be, and gameplay suddenly got a bit more interesting than nukenukenuke-sit and regen mana-nukenukenuke, but it also seems a tad complex, 4 different nukes to use and gotta remember to not use spiritshots before BtM etc

do you play WL on pts aswell? i have one in the live server and i hear its really getting [censored] in C5. and does anyone have any info on hawkeeye? did they get "nerfed" any? or are they still cool
Play style is everything. Even if you find yourself a good main char, you'll get bored of the grind and then mess around with some lower level toons to break the never ending grind.
I say stick with your SH. The best days are ahead of you.
Yes, we get a bit of a sleep nerf. PVE if you ask any SH worth their salt, they will tell you that Sleep is typically a spell of last resort anyway. But guess what? There are other things that an SH can do to avoid death. In fact, the minute that I heard about C5's nerf, I took Sleep off of my hotkey. Slow still works. Silence still works. Concentration still works. With a CON tattoo, Body Bless, and GHPs. I can still take a few hits before there is any real danger. Yes, no doubt Avadon and DC Set bonuses and Acumen stacked helps, too.
The Sleep nerf is not the end of the world, and it should NOT be the primary reason why anyone who loves playing an SH should quit or re-roll.
sleep is overrated
Edit: sin, as youve played both an sk and a bd to decent lvls which do u personally think is better for pvp, not sieges but clanwars and such
I prefer the BD in group PVP, primarily because it's such a tremendous help to others.
But if I'm 1v1 with someone that I have a difference of opinion with, or if I'm out on a red patrol, I take my SK. The SK just has so many more options in terms of offense AND defense.
The other component to that is purely psychological: no one is afraid of an SK... which is good, because I don't want them to bsoe. I want them to be the aggressor. That's usually when you catch them with a nice surprise.
edit: her, never know, so I prefer to add that the above statement was irony :p
Nonetheless I love my dwarf, and could never reroll (even tho I tried, but always came back to her, I must be masochist).
It's easy to say "play whatever you like," but you don't end up really knowing the play styles and what you're likely to like until much later in the game. Right now, my human knight is starting to bore me more than I thought possible. We'll see how I do when I go for paladin, but still...

There is no nierfs to HE.
In fact HE is getting a few nice bonus. (SS has a cancel target effect, DS has a crt effect: seems very low land rate)
And 3 new skills, 2 of which are PvP based; one is for holding more stuff, but be carefull using those since NCsoft hasn't raised the buffs beyond 20 yet, so you may end up overbuffing your self.
HE is still the best of the 3 archers.
I love the kitting and the PvP of HE, over most other classes.
How ever in C5 Daggers are geting a huge boost to their DMG. with some skills skiping CP and going stright to HP.
I personally love the HE class, even tho some call it boring or w/e...they can tend to get some what tedious at times, but with a CS bow and a pocket PP you would be able to solo for a very long time so long as you don't use skills while lvling.
Infact; I don't use HE skill, if I need a boost to Acc I use the toggle Acc skill you get. reason I don't care for the HE skill is the lowered effect to P df.
I've played HE twice, once to 77 on C4 PTS, and now 75 on C5 PTS, and my main on kain is HE lvl 54.
Well, since im too lazy for a long answer, here the short one, ofc all imo:
- 1v1 pvp (not particulary important)
Ranged Classes (Archer/Nuker), imo Archer>Nuker, depens on support
-field pvp/team pvp/clan wars roaming around in aden
Hard to answer, depens on the own/enemy group.
-sieges (!!)
Its sad, but again ranged classes.
-decent soloer, at least until the teaming stage, which is like lvl 52?
A friend can solo fine on her 75 SpS...(and i hate her for that >.<)
- wanted in teams
Well, all is wanted in groups. A party without healer is fast a dead party, a party without buffer (Prophet/WC, but also BD/SwS) is slow or just cant kill stuff at all and a party without DDs cant kill stuff for sure. Ask urself what type of class u wanne play and then look around for a clan that needs ya, or if ya allready got some friends, ask what u could do for them (if they got a Prophet whos almost everyday online they wont need another Prophet).
According to your requirements, I'd say dagger is the perferct class to go for. (and no lol dagger is more of a gimp class than griefer one, it s gonna be fine in c5 tho)
1vs1=fair in c5
sieges=good in c5 with tank support, 15sec dash
very good solo class
most wanted DD class in parties
>Ranged Classes (Archer/Nuker), imo Archer>Nuker, depens on >support
Are you talking about WoW?
if you don't know what to talk about, just refrain from posting.
archers are greater than nukers...with the correct buffs...myself and another archer (a lvl 64 HE, back when i was lvl 64) took out 3 nukers in 5 seconds...and i told them we were going to attack them...and this was the arena, so they could even sleep us if they had the chance......
EDIT: and the 3 nukers were in their 70's
but to your question about which class...it does really come down to what you like...and it sounds like you are likeing the SH...i'll tell you this...my friend has gone form 65 to 73 in one month...he's a SH with an out of party SE... he's awesome at PvP and a PvE GOD... there is hardly anydown time cause of the BtS skill, and you guys really really hurt, and sleep isn't really used that much once you're a high level and can 2 shot everyone anyway...good luck making your choice
With buffs, archers are disgusting. Without outside buffs, summoners are idiotic (except against healers, but that's only the one class). With some buffs, nukers are teeth-gritting.
But of course, people forget that 1v1 is 1v1, not 1+s+s+s+s+s+sv1+s+s+s+s.
True, with just potions+selfbuffs, Nuker>Archer. Put the Archer>Nuker to the field-pvp ^.^
And for u facesit, i know what im talking about, abviously u dont.
> 1vs1=fair in c5
1daggerVS1dagger? 1daggerVS1healer? 1daggerVS1"xyz hit you for 10718 damage."?
> sieges=good in c5 with tank support, 15sec dash
Thanks for the dash info, every dagger gets this with c5 ya? At last it will save their butts when they run away from the towers.
> very good solo class
Well, dunno tbh. Any 70+ dagger around can tell me if solo is fine?
> most wanted DD class in parties
"most wanted"?
oh and just fyi, i like daggers. They deal nice damage and r good within the right party. In field-pvp it depens on the own/enemy party again and how good the dagger can play, on sieges it depens on the situation. If u r running into a field of enemys, dagger r good, if ya attack the walls/gates, dagger r useless.
