Hey all, I'm thinking ahead now to my sub class (hopefully by christmas...maybe before) and I'm really thinking of going Warlord. Any thoughts on this? I have a lvl 34 one now, and i love it, trains are so much fun. and also i was wondering if their aoe after 52 is the same a dwarves...as in...gets slow and really hard to do. (friend told me that) also some info on parties...altough i don't think it would be hard to get any. Thanks for the help
and yeah at about 65ish it becomes pretty tricky
at 70+ it becomes really hard but prolly more because of the lack of aoe'ers than the fact mobs are hard to kill at those lvls :P
Not slow, but harder to arrange. You need the exact right kind of mobs, and no VR = no aoe for you. Once you get to the point where VR heals you more than you take damage, you can pull infinitely large trains. The only thing that's holding you back is the damage you take while pulling them and not dealing damage. Me and one other WL can easily clear 4-5 rooms in ascetics in one pull.
You can't aoe ranged mobs, you "can" but it's highly inefficient to aoe physical resist, stunning, and paralyzing mobs. Finding just the right combination can be incredibly hard for some level ranges as higher level hunting areas always has that one mob who stuns, that one mob who sleeps your healer, that one mob with ranged spells, etc.

yup
thats why aoe gets infinately more dificult the higher lvl you are
so basically it's not harder...just harder to find the mobs? and also...do you like it? cause i know warlords gets a mass amount of skills...do you use them all or are they mostly for show? and is provoke the same as hate?
my clan/hunting group basically does AOE now...just the fact that we group sleep and take he mobs out individually instead of all at once, so i know a good few places for some AOE (but yes...stun in a killer)
I'm glad you asked, this is a common misconception. Provoke is a large hate aura but it has no power. It's only purpose is to aggro passive mobs. Level 3 takes over 70 mana, can cover the entire arena, but you can't pull an elpy off of someone hitting it with it's fists.
It's kinda funny running up to a wall in a necro or catacomb, set off provoke, and steal mobs from other rooms. Not so funny when a raid boss comes around the corner 2 minutes later.
Melee aoe is heaps fun and satisfying. It's very money efficient too, considering you use one soulshot to hit 15 mobs.
now as for the weapon...should it have crit stun? or like wide blow? and armor for Cgrade? heavy or light? (heavy being comp and light being plater leather (+4str)
Wide blow is a waste if you manage to round up all the mobs properly anyway. It's perfectly possible to pull 20 mobs and have them all stand in the exact same spot. I much prefer crit stun.
Both light and heavy works, but you have to work with light a lot more. We don't get evade passives so we will never be able to evade white or higher mobs. I'm +5 dex in doom light for another +3, and even if an EE gives me agility I will only evade whites about 5% of the time. The biggest reason I'm in a +dex setup is for the atk speed, crits (for critstun), and accuracy bonuses.
one thing to keep in mind though is that WL got nerfed in C5, and have never really gotten any love on ANY of the chronicles, we are kinda the "neglected" class.
I think our biggest neglect that I hate the most is our inability to use specials when we go red. My only defense is default attack which sucks, since stun is a perfect defense which many other classes can use on whites but us.
Quick question: In a pole duo (two polers, that is, with two support classes), if it's always the same person pulling, how likely is it that the other one will get hit at all?
Would it be more viable to use a DD LA set on the second WL then?
That's the thing that's kinda paradoxal. If you have one "defensive" WL doing the pulling and one "offensive" doing DD, the offensive one will get aggro quite quickly. Not to mention that the person waiting at the "camp" will be using thrill fight for about 15% more atk speed, while the person pulling won't as it hits your runspeed.
I often do pole duos with other wl's in doom heavy and I'm in doom light myself. The difference in bonuses between the two sets is +3 dex and +3 str in my favor, so I usually get aggro - not super fast/right away - but about halfway through the mobs' hp. It works out pretty well in the sense that we're kinda sharing the aggro.
You won't be able to spam it every time it recharges, but 2-3 times each train for sure. The land rate isn't amazing, about 1/3 on even level mobs I think? Definately helps tho.
Nah! All polers are very welcome. Dwarves and destroyers have the same amount of polearm masteries. The only thing WL's have that dwarves don't as far as damage goes is thrill fight and warcry. Destroyers can easily top our damage.
If I'm in a WL/SE duo, I'd be happier with a BH than another WL. Twice the damage for 1/3 less xp and loot, plus spoil festival.
Once you have a BH in a party, WS becomes quite useful too as he can help sweep. It's kinda hard sweeping 20 mobs that all die on top of eachother.
hmmm at least you wouldnt have to use a doom shield if you went that route. Doom shield reminds me of the no grade bone shield...I mean with zubei and avadon shield were they thinking with that monstrosity.
I think our biggest neglect that I hate the most is our inability to use specials when we go red. My only defense is default attack which sucks, since stun is a perfect defense which many other classes can use on whites but us.
that IS very irratating. and the nerf they but on thunderstorm and focus really sucks.
On a positive side note about the flagging: You can kill a purple without ever flagging if they're standing next to a mob or a red target. =) Your swipe will connect but you won't flag - or at least, that's how it was when I tried to get those stupid pole farmers to flag. ¬_¬;
Last time I tried this on my dwarf in like C1, I would get my mech golem out and hit it, and I wouldn't flag if it hit purples.
I haven't tried since but I always assumed you flagged now. A couple of times after someone has woken me from sleep while I had the mob targeted, I would flag myself. I just can't remember if I did a special or not.
It's not fixed, if someone is purple and stood in your attack arc, and you hit them whilst targetting a red or a mob you dont flag. I think you flag if you force attack though.
