So here's the problem. One guy in my alliance still hasn't heard anything at all back from NCSoft since petitioning to get his account question. He's pretty ******, and he's going to cancel his account probably. But that's not the point here.
If he simply gives up and walks away, he cannot turn off the autorenew on his account and will have to cancel his entire credit card to stop them from auto-billing him. NCSoft needs to stop autobilling on people that have submitted petitions so they aren't billed while locked out of their account. They took the time to close his 2nd petition (but not time to answer his first? wth?), so I assume they can take the time to put his account billing on hold.
Actually they should just stop auto-renewal for ALL accounts.
They were able to change all passwords, so that should technically be easily possible.
Let us assume, that I am on a 6 month CC paying plan, and it is due to be paid tomorrow...
However, I got no idea, if I will ever be able to access my account again, so obviously I would not want to pay 6 month ahead at this time. I would however pay 6 month ahead again, once I got the chance to make the conscious decision to do so.
Disabling a whole CC just to cancel payment for one company is not reasonable.
Isn't it possible to simply block a company from withdrawing money from your CC? Just go to your bank and tell them to not allow NCSoft to get money from you.
It usually is.
Problem is that it disables all payment requests from that company, and I think in oder to ever play any new game from NC Austin you will need to use different CC number.
Also in my post-communistic eastern newly-EU country credit cards are not that common yet, so few that have CCs end up paying for accounts for more people (you can use same CC number for 3 accounts). That would block everybody.

READ Eula if you block NC Soft from charging your CC they ban the account.
Kitten's idea is the most reasonable in my opinion - it won't be more of a hassle for everyone to re-enter their information than it was to get the password back.
If you credit card is charged, you can simply tell you credit card company that you did not authorize this charge. They will try to contact NC to verify it. Of course NC can't be reached and you win the case.
Unable to play is one thing. Unable to play and being charged is another.
I do not thing NC wants to stop autorenewal for ALL accounts and see 90% of its customers walk away. But they Should stop auto charge those who did not log in since last Monday. Threat that you will sue, it you are charged but fail to log in.

If you are on automatic payment and would like to discontinue recurring billing while your password issue is being addressed, please contact the team through the web site (http://support.lineage2.com) or by phone. Your request will be addressed as quickly as possible. At this time PlayNC will only turn off recurring billing when it is requested by the account owner or the owner of the credit card being billed. You will need to verify ownership of the credit card currently being billed when you contact them.
If you were billed in the last week and the Support Team is unable to assist you with retrieving your password, please contact the team through the web site to discuss your recent payment. Please be aware that if you later retrieve your password and log in to the game account past the date of billing, your request for a refund may be denied.
This is curious mistryl if they cant verify its their account to give them access back how come you can allow them to cancel auto rebilling of the credit card of that account? Isnt that a little contrdictory?
Seems odd to me too, but at least they're trying. I like Kitten's idea too, at least give us the option of 1 time billing. Kinda silly to have to deactivate my account after activation (which is what I often do now). I'll pass it along to the guy in my alliance.

proof of ownership, ie the same information requested to reset passwords that is not working?
maybe slightly sarcastic, but warrants the question

So to stop our billing we need to contact the same people that need to be contacted to get our passwords back. Surely if we could contact them to get our billing stopped we would be able to contact them to get our passwords back.
well if they can prove they own the credit card that the account is being charge on that isnt proof enough that they are the owners of the account?
HaHaHaHaHaHa
unfortunately the answer is a huge resounding NO.
Proof that you pay is just proof that you're a *******. If the name on the CC and the name on the Account dont match they wont do anything but offer to cancel your payment. It does NOT matter that you inherited or was given or by which ever means you acquired your account. If your info does not match its sayonara bud, dont let the door hit you on your way out.
[edited] there. is that better? And yes I know that is a smart ***** response. I don't need this stress in my life. Isnt having my bf in Iraq enough?
eek, dont turnt his into a goodbye thread or it will go poof...
worst case you can contact your credit card company and contact the "unauthorized charges" department, and they can block any further billing from the ncsoft account. Its still probably easier to contact ncsoft and get the access back to the account.
wish timecards were easier to get ahold of now....
Count my vote on the turn off Auto Renewal on accounts that can't get in. Here's another kicker though... What if my account renewed, oh, say 5 days ago, and now I can't get in. Does that mean that however many days I'm basically locked out are lost to the etherial even though they are paid for? Just a thought, since they don't seem to be moving very fast on fixing all of this mess that is their fault in the first place.
please contact the team through the web site or by phone.
Uhm...Mistryl, not to be a pain in the rear...but if we were able to contact the team through web site or phone we wouldn't be having the problem in the first place :(
And no, I don't intend to canclel, hell, I have my other accounts active even though I can't really play.
Actually they should just stop auto-renewal for ALL accounts.
I don't think thats a good idea, there are still tens of thousands of players/accounts that don't have issues and don't want their autorenewal stopped.
well if they can prove they own the credit card that the account is being charge on that isnt proof enough that they are the owners of the account?
It is kind of contraditory its the same information. Some random shmuck off the street wouldnt know what credit card is on a particular account.
Now would they?
Actually...it's more like you contact NCsoft and tell them they may not bill to your credit card...and thus the law says they have to follow. Assuming the reason they changed the account database is due to a security breach, a hacker could take the password, take the account by changing passwords, and then leave the account in its previous billing state. Or simply switch the billing, and then call in and claim the account as well. And when NCsoft has two people claim an account with enough info, they lock the account.
But generally, name, bday, and billing address is enough to get the pass reset. Even if the account is "bought"/"gifted" (lots of ppl pay for their kids or significant other's accnt) why would NCsoft care? They want your monthly subscription :p Support tickets are just a long long line still.
