New to L2... i have a question

Player Questions Started Last reply 3 posts
So at the beginning I feel like I'm a bit more lost than I should be. Here are my questions.

1. How long should I stay in the newbie area? (talking island) Where do I go after?

2. I already know I want to try to be a Treasure Hunter, should I not put any points into the other skills I can get at low lvls even though I can afford them? (i.e. Bow Skills or whatever)

3. I heard you can get a pet at low lvls (wolf). I'm interested in this... where do I go to do it?

Welcome to Lineage II!!
1. As long as you feel comfortable. There are other areas, (Gludin, Ruins of Agony/Dispair) where you will be able to get good xp once you reach lvl 15 or so. But Elven Ruins on Talking Island will work nicely until lvl 20.

2. You can get the skills if you need them. If you use a dagger, get dagger skills, if you have a bow as well, then get bow skills if can afford them. But don't waste SP. You will need as much as you can get when you hit lvl 20.

3. You can get the wolf quest from the pet manager in Gludin. Keep in mind, to complete the quest, you will need to travel back to Talking Island to get the quest drops. So don't go after the quest until you can afford at least a boat ticket. Oh, and you need to be level 15 to get this quest.

Good luck, and most importantly... Have fun!

1) Don't leave before Level 15. If you leave before then you will have to go to another race's starting area and you will likely be unable to do their money making quests. (Some but not all.)

Most people stick around until L20 when they need to go to the mainland for D grade equipment, although you can stick around if you want until all the mobs turn light blue/blue in color.

2) By the time you reach L20 you will have gained enough SP to pretty much buy all available skills. (SP is essentially infinite due to dieing or just continuous grinding.) You won't however have enough SP to buy all the new skills you might want. If your not dying much or going to delevel you can ignore the skills you don't ever use so that you can upgrade those you do use as soon as they are available. Later when you have an excess of SP, you can buy the skills you skipped over. If you buy every skill avaiable in the order they become available you won't be able to purchase every skill until very late in your characters life.

3)Disclaimer: I own a wolf. It is now L53. I do NOT suggest you get one and expect to level with it at this time.

Reason 1) Pets are EXPENSIVE. You can expect to pay at least 1M for good equipment and at least another 1M or 2M to upgrade it to top level. They don't eat much food to begin with, although at the time it is a fair amount of cash. As they level their food usage tends to climb considerably. Baby pets eat the least but cost ~500K to aquire from the quest, Twilight Hatchlings eat the next least, then wolves and finally the Last two Hatchlings eat the most. To quest for a pet you need to be L15 for a wolf, L26 for a baby pet and L35 for a Hatchling. (I used to buy food in 40K chunks to last a few days...I now buy food in 100K chunks and it last only a couple days. I use my pet whenever I solo however.)

Baby pets have no equipment at this time. C5 will get them a single 220Kish harness. For the other pets expect to pay the following to equip them for min/max usage at least. (Off the top of my head from what I can remember...numbers can be off by a bit.)

Wolf 1M/4M+
Hatchling 2M/8M+
Strider 4M/24M+

Reason 2) Keeping the pet alive is a fulltime activity since C3. Aggro LOVES to eat pets, and pretty much everything even remotely near its level can kill it in 1 to a couple of hits. (Wind hatchling has the best survivability.) As a DD you will have a problem keeping aggro off your pet and leveling with it. (All but the baby pets get XP for the damage they do, the baby pets just take 10% of your XP.) There are Blessed Rez scrolls for pets, but you need to buy them with AA from the priests. (They drop off certain mobs also, but you can't rely on that.) Until you get skills that allow you to pre-emptively take/regain or redirect aggro raising a pet will be an exercise in how many Blessed Pet rez scrolls you have.
