my friend is going to buy the game soon to play with me. wooo! :)

well he doesn't have a credit card, and i know that you must set up some kind of payment option to register the account, even if he isn't going to be playing after the first free month.

so my question is, if he uses a credit card, when will that credit card be charged? can he use it to activate the account, then cancel it so it never gets charged and just use the free month, and then maybe use the game time card?

Once you put in that credit card on the plaync site it will tell you when the next billing date is. As far as I know you can use the time cards and they won't charge you but you may still need to have that card on file...for security purposes.

Yes, except that u cant trade it to another toon. Only difference as i recall.

Yes. Can't be dropped, can't be traded, can't be sold, weighs less, damage is the same.

You can cancel credit card billing as far as account is activated. Your credit card will be charged once for a minimal amount of money to check it's payment ability. Once NCsoft gets a message from your bank, money will be put back (effectively NCSoft aborts transaction and your card balance goes back to what it was before account activation).
First payment through selected billing plan will be applied after free month. So if you cancel billing plan immediately after account activation, your credit card won't be charged later for your friend's account.

There is a catch though. Your credit card will be considered affiliated with your friend account. As the number of accounts you can use for specific credit card is limited to 3, you'll only have ability to get 2 accounts for your own porposes, including the one you currently have (I suppose you pay using credit card).
So official recommendations of NCSoft are to convince your buddy to buy time card in advance. But doing so he/she will pay for 3 monthes straight (1 bonus month and 2 through credit card).

As for spiritshots/soulshots for newbies, they have the same effect as non-grade spiritshots/soulshots. You can't drop, trade or store them in warehouse though. They are lighter as well so you don't really need to put them aside.
