+s to armor

Im curious how much difference +3 makes on armor and jewlery? I did the quest to get one free scroll; and been watching prices in Dion on others. It would cost like 1.6mill to do a entire set and Im trying figure out if ya get even half that vaule in return during combat.
Every little bit helps, I guess. You'll be keeping that gear for about 20 levels so I'd say go for it. You don't have to do it all at once. Also, I tend to spread my armor enchants out. For example, lets say I have a full set of unenchanted jewels and only 3 scrolls. I don't enchant one piece to +3. I enchant 3 pieces to +1. That way, if I drop one, it isn't as painful.
Actually in C5 there are apparently set bonuses added to armor sets which are +6. :)

But I keep 'sploding my helmet. lol

Yep. Not sure I'm going there with my majestic...

I warned you about that. Did you listen?
How much is one death avoided worth to you? Each + on armor gives me 1 or 2 extra Pdef, so a full set at +3 would give +15 to +30 Pdef. At low levels, that is a significant difference. The cost IS high for the scrolls. That is why I only used scrolls I got through the events. (Resulting in my D and C grade gear being enchanted and my current B stuff not being so.)

The enchants will save you healing if you have a healer, but the real benefit is avoiding soloing deaths. Those cost you xp (quickly recovered at low levels,) but the real risk is losing gear. If the enchants save you even one death, it may be worth it.

For the more adventurous, in C5, if all of your armor is +6 (or more, although it doesn't actually say this) you get a minor bump in Pdef (and some other stat that I can't remember.)
It's a boost in P.Def and MP regeneration for heavy armor and then something else for Light(I think it's a boost in M.Def) and Robe(no idea whatsoever). I can't remember since on my PTS character I've been using heavy.

Enchanting armor is good and much cheaper than enchanting weapons. A few months ago, I came across a +3 brig helm for almost 1.7mil. That with the +3 top and bottom, that my friend gave me, I owned a complete +3 brig set. The extra P.def is always nice, I take less damage and I can then sell it for more.

<-- going for +6 DC after I sell my tallum for DC.

Robe is p def and weight increase
light is m def and evasion
One thing to note is that your armor masteries only affect your shirt and gaiters - even in b-grade and up where gloves/boots are classed heavy/light/robe, which means you will get a better return if you enchant your body pieces.

Since light and robes are less pdef than heavy, you will get a relatively better increase from enchanting those.

Overenchanting is the devil. Don't do it unless you are prepared to take the loss. Seriously. You *HAVE* to assume that it will fail. If you don't and it does (and it will), you're royally screwed, and not many players will give you sympathy for it. God forbid should you try to get help from a gm or even quit over it.

Blessed enchant scrolls are usually not worth it, they can still fail but the item gets reverted to +0 instead.
Only if the value of the item (at +0) you're trying to overenchant is more than double the value of the blessed scroll, is when it's worth doing. This is rarely the case for d-grade as the BEAD's go for 2-500k, while D-armor is 350k tops, not counting the rare craft-only stuff.

yay I ranted.
up to +3 is safe

God forbid should you try to get help from a gm or even quit over it.

Why the 923 would you try to get help from a GM for a failed OE?
And +4 is safe for one piece armors.
I've seen people do it twice, and it irked me equally as much every time. They blew up their only weapon at b-grade, said it's "unfair" because other people succeed, called a gm, gm obviously wouldn't help, they got angry, and quit.

Edit: what the 923 is 923, anyway?
If they didn't quit, they should've been banned for being morons.
I never OE anything unless I have a duplicate piece of equip or am standing next to a good priced store so I can instantly replace my equip
I stopped oe'ing my own equip for the most of it. I only oe stuff I'm planning on selling.
Learned that after I blew up my doom helmet, gloves, and mail. All on their first oe :(

You need something that will keep you from getting stunned by weenie level 62 gladiator. :p

I do... x.x its broke
i made my blue wolf light armor body part from +0 to +4,and my defence completly unbufed changed from 720 to 730.I m archer lvl 76.Anyway,enchanting jewels looks more worht, because u got more % increase in item defence. If u enchant BO ring to +3,u got about 10% increase in its basic stat.If u enchant Blue wolf main part,u got about 0,4 %defence increasment in its basic stat.
frankly i think armor enchanting is quite rediculious, after +3 all +s gain 3pdef more... I think this should be increased to at least 5

And after +6, every enchant should increase you mdef 1

It does add up. I think the rates are quite fine. "Safe" enchanting *should* be debatable if it was worth it, and just a luxury thing. If not, there would be no reason at all not to go +3 unless you were stupidly poor.

I +4'ed my gloves and boots, and they're equal to armor of half a grade higher. On my alt I have a +7 bronze helmet that's more pdef than a chain helmet.

Why the 923 would you try to get help from a GM for a failed OE?

ive seen it happen alot, mainly with duels because ppl think they must have the sa

at higher lvls with masteries 1 + could equal as much as 7 extra pdef/mdef
ppl still laugh at me soloing lvl 75+ mobs wearing bw.... but then they dont know how many +'s it has ;)

Then you you've seen a lot of morons that should be banned for being too stupid to live.

who knows maybe they are right to complain

silly me i only ever overenchant something if i dont need it or i can afford to replace it
maybe the better option is to overenchant a 70 mil weapon when i only have 200k in inventory then ask the gms to give it back :/

I never OE anything unless I have a duplicate piece of equip or am standing next to a good priced store so I can instantly replace my equip

Yes the code I like by is never ever OE my weapon. OE another wep if it gets higher than my current wep I will swap and oe the old wep. But never never never OE the only wep you have.
OEing armour isn't as easy as OE-ing weapons at all. If you calculate with a 1/3rd chance (which isn't a bad guess) you will need about 230mill adena to get yourself a +6 BWlight set, asuming prices of 2m, 2m, 3m, 4.5m for the set to buy non-OE.

I OE-ed about 15 BW boots, 10 BW gloves and 10 BW helmets already and I only managed to get one to +6, two to +5 and the rest broke going to 4 or 5. Other ingame friends also confirmed these very low OE chanced on armour. My BW set is now +6/+5 and has pretty good armour. Shame it seems to be too expensive to get it all to 6.

So anyone saying they are going to OE their A armour to +6, *laugh*. I hope you got a lot money. A lot.

You can check for yourself by going to [censored].com and searching for +6 or higher nonfullbody armour pieces (the fullbodies would have to be +7 to be in the same risk as other pieces). You will notice each server only has had maybe 2 or 3 pieces in whole C4 for sale.

If my 1/3rd theory is correct (2/3 for weap - see offical website, 1/3 for armour seems likely) then you have a 3% chance to get an armour to +6. 11% to get a main body to +6.

lvls with masteries

Masteries do not amplify the effect of enchants.

I would very much like overenchanted robes so as to increase the carrying capacity, but that's definitely a dream.

Is it same for full body sets? Since they safely goto +4 it wouldnt surprise me if they had to be higher the 6 for a bonus.

I'm pretty sure it does on your body/gaiters.
Masteries just don't go on boots/helm/gloves afaik.

Somehow I will doubt you will be the only cross-server person with a +6 A/S set, unless you ebay yourself a few billion. GJ if you succeed, but I'm quite sure its just a dream for you as well and will never reach reality.

mmmmm

Ehli u underestimate the olympiad.

Just last month alone I pulled in a total of 290 million adena :)
Can you buy 30 A helmets for that (3% to +6) ?

Thought so.

But good luck, nobody else did it before, so you must be very special or at least feel like you do. Go ahead and try, but I'm still sure you can't do it :)

Your very good in bragging (hero chat is amusing like that), but I'm afraid your bragging skills will not be able to reach the required OE "skills". Do it first, if you manage to do that I will eat my words.
Beas ftw :) 5 mil per chance even assuming 1/2 failure rate thats 10% to echant my healm= 50 mil, 50 mil gloves/boots, 20 mil main piece.

So assuming its 50% chance its only total 170 mil to go to +6

at 33% chance, 3 tries 3% chance= 3x adena =510 million = 2 olympiad cycles (which I can start saving now)

Overenchanting is the devil.

Momma has spoken!
I'm coming late to this post...i can't tell from your OP whether you are asking about "all armor" or specific b, A, S grades.
Getting away from posts about 500 million adena that make me want to quit the game and back to your question, the oe on D-grade is a mixed blessing.
1) it's relatively cheap (open sell shop and offer quick adena for ead's and you'll get 5 every hour or two).
2) the gear is usually used for quite awhile (20 lvls or so).
3) there's a good resale on the gear whether it's +3 or whatever as long as it was top in class.
.............but
4) the lower oe's don't make much difference in your defences.
5) for MUCH of D-grade the mobs aren't that horrible and a bit more def doesn't matter that much.
6) a lot depends on your class! why oe gear for an archer who never gets hit? Especially in D-grade, my dk wiz and newbie archer never get touched! No healpots and they could be naked and still survive. The palus knight gets the snot knocked out of him comparatively! (haha).
Case in point, my palus knight has +4 els and +5 brig set and +3 elven jewels.....my dk. wiz has unenchanted sag's rags and a +5 demon fang (since I had ewd's but not enough adena for SoL) with clean elven jewels. Keep in mind also I spend almost ALL my time hunting mobs green to me to max adena gained and run quests over and over on hunting mobs so I'm not running into tight cata's. Play style prob is another variable that affects the answer to your orig question.

So, long story short---I think your question about the relative value of enchanting defensive gear is dependant upon a lot of variables that folks interpret different ways.

Regarding C-grade....so far my two toons (melee) in C-grade constantly find themselves getting beaten nearly to death while they hit pitifully. Every single oe advantage I can give them (although my best c-gear is borrowed so I can't take a chance with it anyway), I am going to take.
My final answer is:
D-grade? Go either way--if you have adena oe to your little heart's content or don't.
Unlike others, I would NOT oe jewels equally. Since necklaces start with a higher mdef than rings or earrings, wouldn't it be better for overall pdef to take necklace to +3 rather than necklace and two earrings to +1 each?

The rest of my answer would be that there seems to be advantage to getting higher def at higher levels (c-grade and above?) so enchanting has more value to player. Probably worth some money, but don't go over +3 unless you are lucky, have evidently been earning trillions in olympiad, have really nice friends, or cheat.
Goes without saying that enchanting less than top in grade can be risky economically....that stuff on my server doesn't sell as well (appears a +4 cursed mainguiche, for example, remains for sale for days and days!)
My 2 cents.
Just wait tell chaos week on PTS everyone will get plenty of chances to OE armor. Will get a decent idea how hard it will be to +6 A grade armor.
