I am wondering if all quests/content is like....

Me and my wife have recently started the trial of L2. It has been fun, until we realized the lack of fun in quests and the huge expanses of empty terrain.

I am wondering if this is just encountered at the beginning part of the game, or are all quests kinda boring, and is most of the land empty?

I read a lot about how engrossing/fun this game is. I am wondering who it caters to. Is it just really for pvp'ers, or can it be fun for ppl who like the wilderness/quest type gametime?
This game is fun for those that take it easy, and have fun with PvE. It is a slow climb to the top, and alot of people including myself are not concerned with getting to the top quickly. The quests at the early stages are in themselves not very rewarding, but if you find a place you like to hunt, it is wise to see if there is a quest you can do at the same time. At later levels, the quests get a little more profitable, the storyline is a little botched together at times, but I find a bit of entertainment reading what they have to say most of the time.

The new towns and early areas do have vast empty spaces that can generally be avoided. Later on when you get above and into your 20's you should check out Dion Town. There you will see more people, can take part in raid parties and experiment with grouping with others. The key is to make friends, and just enjoy progressing one day at a time. This game is brutal, and takes a while to get the hang of, but the learning curve can be fun, if you let it.

By the Way, what server are you playin on?
ummm, seighardt I think.

maybe we might like it better when we get a guild/clan or whatever it is called in this game.

We are both mmo-veterans, been playing mmo's for ~5-6 yrs. Mainly Ragnarok Online, Anarchy Online, and EQ2 (EQ2 is the one we are currently playing). We have tried roughly 20 different mmos. L2 is by far the most beautiful, which is why I am grasping to find hope for it lol.
You are playing the wrong game if you are interested in quests. :P

L2 is good for role players, PVPers, or those that like to grind fighting mobs and leveling.

The quests in l2 simply put do not offer much.
I dont mind grind fighting or such, but i was wondering if the quests got better.

I'd think if they had quests they might atleast try and make them interesting/useful or challenging.

I dont mind slow exp, but I like to be able to break up the grind a bit by doing SOMETHING different.
What do you mean by better? Like in reward? Lore?
I always hate to lure people away from thier chosen server, as i'm sure you could find a great group of people to join. However, If you are interested in trying out Kain, I would be more than happy to take you guys into my clan. We are a group of casual players that like to group up and help each other out. All fairly low levels ranging from 20-40 ish and we take it slow and easy, converse, throw jokes around, the usual stuff. Drop me a PM if you are interrested.
hrmmm, that actually sounds nice :)

We are only lvl 5-6 on that server, so changing is no big deal. Plus having ppl there to talk to would be nice, since this game is a lot different than others we have tried.
Well, all you gotta do is Make your characters and then PM me on probably PopuSlave, and i'll get you in and you can meet the gang ;)
nice, I'll do that tomorrow it is almost bed time here lol (I am on EST)

oh and thx for the offer as well.
To answer your other questions:

Yes, the newbie lands are emptied of life to make server room for monsters in dungeons and the new areas. Other less used lands have been emptied as well. Still once past the newbie terrain, those spots are less obvious.

Every Quest is repetitive and boring. Most involve killing lots of mobs to get items. Others involve running all over the server. But some have an actual interesting storyline which is worth your time to read.

Once past the newbie lands (depending on your server) you will meet other players.
If you prefer adventuring and exploring empty space this is the game for you. If you like PvP, expect it to be dry until 65-70 at least since most are getting to that level. Quests are like bedtime with a wife that you have been married to for 20 years.

I'd think if they had quests they might atleast try and make them interesting/useful or challenging.

well, if you make it to lvl 75, it is a long ways away, you can do the sub class quest which will take at least 1 week to do, 1 week if you are lucky.

Something in the near future. The 2nd class change quests. There is 3 for each class that you need to do to change your class at min lvl 40. If you have a guide and really know what to do and put your mind to it, it will take about half a day per character. Most people tend to spread these out into 2-3 day for completion.

Since you say you played AO I'll give you some similairities / differences so you will understand what L2 is more quickly:

- L2 has a much younger playerbase then AO. While AO seemed to be 20+ This one has a lot less mature base. You will notice this a lot with PvP actions and political drama (more hotheads, flaming, childish behaviour, e-thug attitudes)
- L2 doesn't have the huge European-scandinavian clientbase like AO. Not sure what country you are from, but this means a lot fun stuff happens after 3 am Euro time
- Compare Broken Shores / heckler SK grind missions at lvl 190-220 with the grind here
- Healers in this game do not have great PvP abilities like doctors in AO, while nukers are the same more or less
- Healers do not get the appreciation as in AO; L2 seems to appreciate DPS more, and tend to value it more then the healer
- lvl 210 seems to correspond with lvl 65 in this game in terms of time spent. lvl 219>220 somewhere in the 70's (below 76).
- No bi-weekly updates after playerfeedback, NC HQ is korean, not american/euro.
- PvP rules are the same as AO-Shadowlands in regards of flagging, with an added playerkilling / wars
- Base wars = Sieges, though castles are much cooler to defend and gives you more of an advantage
- Money is more an issue in this game; whereas in Ao you didn't need after a certain lvl (just raid), AO is more econemy based
- Quests in L2 are "kill x mobs to get x items" generally, not that AO had good quests though.
- Much less diversity in weapons due to skills being the same for the same classes, more equipement/moneybased
- Better pvp in L2 if you don't mind XP loss and griefing. L2 does not have "save your XP" terminals like AO has.
- L2 has uh professional people hitting the same mob 24/7 to get uh income (forum rules are blocking me here)

High-end content is a lot better then lowend. Busy places start at lvl 60 or so here. Sadly some classes are overpowered (nukers mainly) and played heavely.

Quests isn't the main thing in L2. Ppl only do them for the extra money during the grind, the XP awards are not worth mentionning. L2 is pvp, raidbosses and grinding in a spot, like SK farming in Shadowlands.

The game has plenty of people in it. But you really need to read up on the game to understand that it is about power. No one hangs around new player towns doing the "fun" quests.

The idea is to level as "quickly" as possible. The idea is to be rady for clan wars and sieges.

And the quests in this game (in my opinion) are utilitarian. I've yet to really find a fun quest. but this game is not about quests. It's a grind game.

Good Luck and welcome to L2 :p
The quests in l2 are pretty much involve killing mobs 95% of the time. The rest are go find and talk to an npc. If you're looking for complex quests with puzzles this isn't it. Having said that there are other things to do later like leveling pets - which involves more killing of mobs.
People mention L2 is good for RP, PvP and grinding...

...I'd just like to add that the strongest point in my opinion is the clan/alliance based relations and politics, which makes the world very dynamic. Get to know people, get in a clan and start observing the political changes is a lot of fun to me.

By the way, as I've laid down that part due to lack of time, perhaps this casual play clan on Kain is interested in taking me in, I still play a bit to relax ^^ Gonna try pm/mail when I get on...
check out http://lineage2.stratics.com for lists of quests and guides for them. There are nearly 300 quests in the game, though they are of different level ranges.

Kain is a good server (and it has EllieBelly on it), so I am sure you'll have fun there.
