Remembering C1

I was going through some of the music for Lineage on this website and I fell upon the music for Talking Island Village. Instantly it brought back memories of when Lineage was a baby back in C1. When there was a lot more people that played. When I was a noob and didn't have enough money to teleport. When I didn't know what SOEs were and walked back to town. I don't know why but Lineage seemed a lot more fun back in C1...
Low level...balanced/longer pvp.
because it was awesomeness
I don't know, it was fun back then but we didn't have so many of the new features that I love. Like added buttons on the hot bar, less aggro on heals, town maps, better interface, better loot options in party, etc.
Yeah, the game is more finished.

But the Balance has been screwed along.
aww =/ how can u mention TI in C1 without the mass pvp/pkin goin on right outside =P. the guards outside town made TI a livin ghost town. I miss those days =P.
You're probaly not thinking it was more fun in C1, but more of nostlagia of those first magical steps into Lineage 2, where everything was new.
I remember when varnish was 180a, iron was 100a, and I could craft ng/d-grade for 8k profit.
I got the scale gaiters recipe and was pumping out those things like there was no tomorrow. I had 100k at level 28 and had to explain everyone how I made it cos they thought I ebayed it.

Crafting d-grade now is about 2x shop price. Kinda depressing.

Yea, I'm sure everyone likes the new features added in each chronicle. But if I had to give away all those things to have that much fun again, I would.
Hm not me. I've have just as much fun if not more in C2, C3, C4.
I wasn't here in C1. :(
I remember when c1 was first brought in, you'd get d/ced almost every 10 min (either server crash or something) until they brought in a patch to increase server stability....which i think made it more unstable until they patched it again. good times.

I wasn't here in C1. :(

Oh, it was great. We had punch AND pie!

I wasn't here in C1. :(

Elro brings up another good point. C1 was awesome.

Yea I think it was just because L2 was new and ppl were everywhere and you enjoyed riding the boat from TI to Gludin and if it wasn't lagged out and you fell to the watery depths. Oh yea and Gudin was like Giran except everything was pretty much NG stuff...lol. People actually owned wolves and then people sold them. Mobs would agro you from the road and kill you...lol.

L2 now is definately more complete. But I think if the community was as healthy as it was back then the game would be soo much better. Esspecially if mat prices were like that. If I was smart I would have bought all the mats I saw in C1 and waited to sell them now..lol.

I don't really miss C1 persay, I just miss the way L2 was...lol. Plus the whole 'magical noobness' feel of first loggin in and saying to the guy next you u, "can you see me" LOL.

wow how much Karma did that PK give you?
lol good times good times. L2 was my first MMORPG. HAd no idea what to do. Thought my computer was broken cuz it took solong to update. I bought it in une 04 right after release. I got nailed by a PKer on TI 5 mintues into in, and had no idea why he killed me. lol. man...I miss those days. BUT there is hope L3 comes out in 2+ years i hear...sadly i'll have graduated HS so i dunno if ill have time to play...*sobs*

Depends on how you engineer your life.

I'm 39 and I've made my life such that I have time to do the things I want to do. Though I do other things than L2 and therefore choose not to play 5+ hours per day every day.

And you still an play from work. :p

I have a few pals doing it; True as I am.
Yeah, the old days were fun, mostly because everything was new, xp didn't mean as much, etc. My whole clan ran to Aden from Dion once, just because. We were trying to do the clan quests or something. Back then we had what we called "Clan Deaths" where we'd have a complete party whipe - and those were the most fun nights we had! Now if even one member of your party dies to mobs you're screaming at someone - the healer, the puller, the sleeper, etc.

Some stuff people may (or may not) remember about C1 -

There was no VR or WM.

SwS and BD buffs did not overlap mp, they could sing as many as you had room for on your buff bar.

CT was the place to level. The mob composition of that place was completely changed in C2 or C3. There used to be constant parties going on there. A party would stake out a room for 10+ hours, just rotating people in and out.

Healers classes were not seperated into "buffers" or "healers" - they all did everything.

There was no OE or SAs for weapons, there were few set bonuses, no A-grade (not that anyone was that high) and no textures for B-grade and half C-grade armors - at one point I thought everyone wore Salamander, LOL.

There was no manor system, if you wanted mats you made a dwarf alt.

No catacombs, no 7 signs competition, consequently there were a lot more mobs above ground and everyone pretty much congregated in certain spots. Made the game feel more populated, IMO.

You could use private stores to stand up immediately - good for healing. I used to use private stores all the time, became somewhat known for my catchy phrases, LOL.

You had an actual map in your inventory rather than a special icon for it. Some people would fill their inventories with maps in the hopes that, if they died, they'd drop a map instead of something important.

The rivers had no water properties. You could run through them just as easily as you could a road, we even used to sit in them to go afk, safely away from the mobs.

Only five clans could ally. Consequently we saw some alliances with "1" "2" "3" behind their names.

There were no private craft shops. You had to trust a dwarf completely to give all your stuff - all your hard-earned mats and crystals and recipes - over to them and then pray that they would give it back to you.

No destructable castle walls - I remember being very worried about this being introduced, since my clan owned a castle in C1. Having more than one way to get in the castle, and such an open way (not a bottleneck) too, made it a lot more difficult to defend a castle. First siege after C2 was very hard, I was sure we were going to loose it.

Anyway, those are just some of the things that I remember being different in C1. I really think the game has improved a lot since then, I just think the newness has worn off, thus it's not as fun for us anymore.
And there's another thing I miss :

Tho being a SR and thus supposedly the fastest class in game, I'm since C2 outrunned by every Dark Blue Mob in game.
Talk about common sense.
I remember the Soul Shot/Spirit Shot Lag in Prelude! :D
My first guy was a dorf and I for whatever reason was running around behind shop and saw some ngss...not having a clue what they were they just sat in my inventory. Then on a boat ride to TI at lvl 15 someone told me what they were. I was killing things so much better.

My first groups in cruma were with my de dagger guy and I saw how the healers just sat all the time, that made me want to make a cleric, just to be lazy in the group and I did.
I remember being able to solo just about anywhere in c1.... ;)

Even small parties could play through DVCave... but now..
hmm one thing i dont miss is havin ta press the F1,F2,ect. button just to use 1 of thos (spirit/soul)shots.
I only really miss the sense of adventure that the early days gave me. Going to places like Death Pass, Enchanted Valley for the first time was amazing. I still remember my first trip deep in Dragon Valley, for our clans proof of blood, that was crazy.

I don't really get the same feeling from any of the new areas now :(.

Oh, and I did love most people being under 40, being a healer I could actually PvP people and win easily ;).
lol, once had a EE with 104 pvp 15 pk (killed while blinking)
Heh I remember all that, especially using a sell shop to pop right up from sitting without delay. Then in C2 I think they stopped that but made standing and sitting faster. In C3 I'm pretty sure they slowed it back down again but I had no way of proving it and with Miykael gone GL getting an answer on something so off the wall as that.
What I miss the most was nobody really knew what a bot was, and there were just tons of people and you knew they were still legit...

The game was just more fair all the way around.
well still had farmer probs but not nearly what bots have done
Heh says you guys, I still remember in prelude not being able to finish a quest in EF because a non talking seemingly automated KSer kept 1-2 shotting mobs even when I attacked them first. A DE in manticore and main gauche...
Omg they were baaaaaad in the n00b dungeons :(
I remember when bots were so primitive that you could put 1a on the ground and they'd run to pick it up. We had a lot of fun leading the bots out into the gludin harbor but they always logged before they drowned.
actually they still do this, u can kill a group (if u can get by the aggro mobs without drawin aggro) by droppin 1a on ground and they will follow into another room, usually 1 char goes to pick it up,aggro gets on um and they die. trick is to put down adena constantly so they dont go back with main group. if u do this and the controler doesnt notice the group will slowly die off, because each groups program is specifically formated to fit the room. 1 goes down, if no rezed, all will die.
lol I remember a guy on TI that had a name "Fail".

IDK what ever happend to that guy I wish I'd see him again one day. sadly I don't play erica any more, to ever have that chance.

I remember the masses of people in RoD. the mobs that would one shot us when C2 came, and we didn't have good jwellery.

I remember people tring to do the quest from that guard in gludio that had you collecting a ton of zumbie lives and skulls to collect their remains. And the massive PvP that all ways accoured at a spot next to RoD and the road.

I remember when red's ran around killing people in EG when no one had a change to kill them.(still heppends alot less often)

LoL The trains in CT. and the mobs on second floor that would sleep a player you wake them by hiting them and you get killed by some PvP dagger.(that happend alot more in C2 then c1)

I remember when people would still RP, and thought it was cool.

or when a high lvl bishop(any one over 52 was high lvl back then) would swing by and buff you and you thought your a god with her buffs.

The never ending trips into TI's ruins. going to the back rooms as a lvl 10 and geting owned.

Selling Rez scrolls over priced in TI cause they didn't sell there, and people didn't want to run back from town to the ruins. cause the GK didn't port you there.
Almost quitting the game after falling for the ole' dwarf let me enchant your weapon scam. I lost my dark elven bow that had taken me forever to save up to get by selling charcoal and SOE's for 420a. The funny thing was I was a dwarf and I still got scammed by it. I finally learned that dwarfs should stick with blunts.
I'm almost certain that sitting and standing now is much faster than C1, it's one of the first things that struck me when I returned in C3 - since I didn't play C2, however, I can't judge if it was even faster in between.

You are absolutely correct. They made it faster.
Ellie questioned above whether it was made slower again - that's what I was replying to. Sorr for the unclarity! (Is that even a word?)

It was fun because it was new, as is the case with all things not yet experienced. There are still quite a few people playing, what you may or may not yet realize is that the population is now spread far and wide instead of centralized on the new areas reserved for starting players. Nothing in L2 has changed. You have just been here long enough to see more of the faults.
Wish I could test it. If you noticed it as faster maybe it wasn't changed, I just noticed it not as fast after C3 or whatever it was.
Maybe it was slower in C3 than in C2 but still faster than in C1? I remember getting hit three or four times before I managed to get to my feet in C1, it seems more like one or two at most in C3. ^^

Ok, but it is faster.

That sounds about right, standing was very fast in C2 and it was definatly slowed down again.
Wow someone else noticed it besides me? ^ ^ I was positive it went from shop stand exploit to faster stand/sit in C2 after that was patched, to back to slower in C3/C4 etc.
That means I missed out not only on the Chronicle of Spoils but also on the Chronicle of SitStand? How frustrating!

But really, if you two of all people noticed it's safe to assume it's right - I don't think any other class gets up and down as much as a healer.
Provided a good rezzer, dwarves go up and down pretty fast in pvp ;)
But it might be another subject ...
Right, sure wish they made a way to med standing up because the sit/stand dance makes me CRAZY.
