Still possible for new players?

I played when L2 first came out, so its been a while. Iwas wondering if the game is possible now for newbs, or is everyone pretty much high levels so I would have no one to group with?
Ya its pretty much solo until lvl 20+ and you get around Dion area.

But is it possible to find people to group with aroudn that level (20+)?
There are constantly raid groups being formed, but it's rather class based. If you're a mage damagedealer or a some sort of buffer/healer you should be fine.
Dion is very active. There's still a ton of d-graders running around. It's kinda like a mini giran. At least on hinde.

In C5, there will be a system in place for high level clans to take in low level players, and the clan benefits from you completing certain tasks. It might be a lot easier to find a clan then.

sweet. I realyl want to get back into it, but dont want to be like one of the few people with no high lvl toons.
As a melee, you can go to popular dungeons (Necropolis of Sacrifice) to group up.
I returned recently and joined an established guild that has a few provisions for newcomers.

They have a guild of alt characters that is of varying levels that can join as you level.

They also have a raid group. The raid group is characters that only go on the raids together so they all remain the same level range. The current range is about 27-28.

There's probably several guilds across the servers who do things like that so shop around and find a group that offers what your looking for.

And.... Welcome to Lineage2! :)
Actually with the new academy system in C5, big clans will actually need lowbies for something. That'll be nice. Yeah, levelling up to 20 on your own is tedious, but after that you can go to raid groups or the necros/catacombs and do fairly well. A helpful clan is still your best bet.
I started in January (which I 'think' was right before C3) and I certainly consider myself a 'new' player.

I think it's very POSSIBLE since the game's architecture is so open. L2 can be a lot of different things to different players.

That being said, I'm thinking at this point I won't be in an uber alliance or Siege or do the really big raids in all probability.

Seems possible to me to really enjoy the game even though you're new.
alright, thanks for all the advice. I made a new guy today (human mystic). I must say, playing a mystic is hard compared to a warrior :) Im so use ot just hitting attack and watching him kill stuff :)
Mages are typically considered more useful. Nukers and archers are the heaviest damage dealers, with daggers being runners up. Healers and buffers are obviously always popular.

Play what you find fun. It's obvious but sometimes it's easy to get sidetracked with "this class owns that" and "that skill owns this".
For what it's worth, tanks (especially the light elf templar knights) are some of the least played classes, and they are getting a huge boost in C5 with being able to use aggro on other players in pvp and having a strong short duration root.
Some other rare classes are the summoners (Warlock/Elemental Summoner/Phantom Summoner), apart from necromancer which is quite popular at the moment.

Anyway, I won't interfere with your choice if you've already made one, just food for thought :D
ok I have a quick question.

What level should I leave talking island, and where do I go?

I would say "20" after your first class change. Then go to Dion. That is where you will mee the most 20+ players.
To answer the original OPs question:

Unless you have someone to support you then you should check out a diff game. The ingame cost of anything is too expensive to support start up play.

Better go earlier, since the class change doesnt start on TI :P

Stick to the spider quest on the back of the island until around 18 then leave.
I'd say stay till mabe 16/17. then go and find a good clan/alliance who can help with the inflated prices of D grade.

What a strange answer. I didn't have anyone to "help" me or know anyone who played L2.
The gear through level 30+ can be purchased from shops unless you're an idiot--how are they any more expensive now than they were two years ago?
It is not REQUIRED to have a "+8 LXBow" to be an archer class in D-grade.
I've found the game challenging to earn adena in but not impossible in any way (I sold two Bless rezz's, I got from an event, two nights ago for 2 million each in a little over 2 hours).

If you think you "NEED" gear sets to play through D-grade or that only over-enchanted top-D weapons will get you through the game then you're going to be REALLY frustrated with market (it's the desire for those things that creates the market).
Buy brig or mith heavy (even better) from giran for melees at lvl 28 or so. Sword of rev. is 1.6 million or so. A bastard sword with a patk of like 51 will work in orc barracks no problem--it's 700k or so from Giran (and can be combined later to make 107 duals). Mith heavy gets set bonus with a hoplon shield from a shop!
I have 5 toons under lvl 40 and ONE of them has an armor set (and I farmed the brig helm pieces and had ws make that brig helm to complete set). Similarly, between those 5 toons there are 3 "top" D-weapons one of which is borrowed from a clannie too. The dark wiz has demon fangs, the scavi a tarbar, etc. I'll bet I can pve anywhere that anyone else can who is at my lvls.

Expectations make prices absurd--and players who have never tried anything else as far as play style. Have you ever gone to a hunting area with an average weapon rather than an 'uber' weapon? Works just fine.

To OP--PM me and I'll tell you how to level low toons without going poor. It's definately not at the START of the game that adena is out of control--it's after the start.
I am trying to craft a sword of damascus for B-grade weapon cause I just don't have 60 million to buy one clean! But the borrowed sls I have from clannie works okay for me (and in itself is more sword than I can afford).
Low level finance takes some reading, some thinking, some shopping and some market play--but it's not "impossible".

Amen
If your still deciding, a good healer is always needed. i make friends with every healer i party with and i still can't find enough :p and they make good $ too that's my opinion anyways lol
BTW: lvl 49 Gladi LF Healer for Duo (gustin)

Im not really a big fan of playing healers. Im either a "up on the frontlines" tank or some type of summoner, in most of the games I play.
well if u wanna save money and aren't in a clan, don't get brig. everything is cheap, except for the helm. the helm is almost impossible to get now unless u have a higher char, or a clan can support u with it. befor it used to be only 500k to get this helm now it is over 5 mill. this is why i said join a clan to help u get D grade.
I can not wait to get off this newbie island.

Its boring as hellllllll. ANd its so lonely :(
You can always craft brig helm, it's not that hard...lol

Time was when you would be pk'ed 7 times in a session on TI. Players on TI would come to the boards and ask higher lvl players to patrol the area while they level.

So don't consider it boring... consider it ... contemplative. :)

a lot of people with high level mains have low-level alts. i used to frequntly reroll elf fighters on various servers just to make money, meet&greet new players, and then delete them. in many clans you will notice a bit of a level difference between members, but there is nothing stopping the more hardcore players from taking a break and partying with you on an alt. also, id like to compliment NC on a job well done, becasue of the manor system and spoil tables and raid bosses, there are incentives for long-term players to have low-level alts, this livens up low-level areas with the occassional helpful player. make sure you do all the quests in your hometown, at level 21-30 if you find yourself in the hometown of another race, there is ussually a quest or two you can do there as well.
You CAN craft brig but those helm parts drop kinda slow if you're going to farm them yourself.

My point above was to just skip the helm altogether!
Brig chest/gaiters is a good set of heavy armor--even without the bonus. Use a regular d-helmet and RIP gloves and Power Boots--all of which are cheap and you'll be fine at least through 34-35.
You'll also have 5 million to put toward your C-weapon :)

Mithril heavy is cheap and set completes with hoplon shield from npc. For that matter the ringmail chest is really cheap and would work through 30.

I still think folks are too hung up on sets. The lower level mobs just don't hit that hard or in that much of a combination in MANY leveling areas (though if u go in ants nest around 30 and hit the wrong ant you'll want all the armor and hitpoints you can get--plus a machine gun and a healer :))

AC, orc barracks, NOS, Wastelands (first part)...those mobs don't exactly chew through your defenses.

I played when L2 first came out, so its been a while. Iwas wondering if the game is possible now for newbs, or is everyone pretty much high levels so I would have no one to group with?

On Sieghardt there are around 60-80 players that left a server and have come over to play. Lots of low level action atm.
