Server Status Indicators

Is there any point in having a server status indicator on the index page of Lineage II? I can't actually remember it actually indicating the correct status. If this is manually changed, I don't think the dude who pushes the button is paid enough; if it's automatic, it's broken. ;) Even when there have been notifications about the servers being down (see 2 weeks ago) they indicators are still green.

I always check the LII page before loading the game up to see if there have been any patches or if any of the servers are down. Seems pointless doing that now...

Yes, there are a few sites that update status every few seconds/minute or so, i'm not sure if they are better/worse than the l2 main page, but they seem to be alright,
where does this site obtain the ping rates? i don't know about you, but it's nowhere even remotely close to what i see on log-in. just want to make sure it is valid data before i bookmark it.

It gets them where his server is located. By looking at the ping times, I'm guessing somewhere near the east coast of the U.S.

The ping times aren't 100% accurate compared to the ping times the ingame client shows, he basically pings the server and checks for the hardware to be on the net.
I dunno if the client uses the same ping to check, or if it sends a specific message that needs to be answered by the server.
If so, i would know why I get a lot faster responses by using the simple ping command then by looking at the "Choose Server" thing after logging in.

Glop.org is good, just remember -> 1-5 = 150-170ms and 6-9 = 80-100ms --> Servers are okay ;)

And also remember that it's not foolproof. I've had Glop show servers down when I could get on (servers were up, his route was borked, mine was not).

glop.org is located in france.

Well, I only guessed the east coast since the ping times were more in line with someone there. They're the opposite of what I get (I'm near the west coast).
Still doesn't answer my original question.

Fix it or lose it I say...
They show the status accurately during and after weekly maintenance, and sometimes during server-downs, but not always.

Fix would be nice, of course.
