Fighter > Rogue > Hawkeye: Leveling tips

Player Questions Started Last reply 27 posts
Hello everyone.

I am a diehard melee fan, but due to the reality that melee will most likely always be "gimped pvp wise" in this game I decided to try an archer. As a newb to this class, I was wondering if anyone had some tips on leveling from Fighter to Rogue to Hawkeye.

I'm fairly new to the game and have never played an archer type. From some searches in these forums I have found that most people don't even touch bows until higher levels. Does anyone have some strategies regarding this? as well as armor?

I don't ever see LF archer in chat so is the majority of leveling done solo? is there a best duo/group? I have heard tales of an "archer group" but as I said earlier, I have never seen anyone shouting "LF Archer," does this come at higher levels?

Thanks for your help.
I have lately not seen anyone lfg besides some poor healer/buffer. Think most of the groups are either in clan/ally or friends made at the low lvls.

U prolly already know this but as far as i understand it its to **** expensive to use bows at lower lvls, and pre c b grade dont think it really matters what armour u wear. Well aslong as its light btw.
Most lvling will be done solo as you crit way too hard and draw aggro to you all the time in group. That's why you will probably solo up to 52, but besides mages there is not a single class that lvls as fast as an archer.

1 > 20 stay on Talking Island

20 > 24 Eye Gazers and Destroyers around Dion

24 > 30 Wasteland eyes and basilisks

30 > 35 Harpy's around Giran Castle

35 > 40 Plains of the Lizardmen

40 > 44 Lienrik, Lienlik in Fields of Whispers

45 > 50 Archer of Greed around Aden Castle

50 > 52 Forest of Mirror Ghosts

That's what I did :)
Best thing you can do is find a Prophet, grab a Bow and go crazy on the mobs.

People who say "Don't use a Bow till you're 52+" is uhm, well, I don't agree with them one bit, to say the least. :p

I'm deffently one of them says to stay away from the bow till you can get a bow of pearl.(BoP)

you my find this funny but; a archer with +8 duals (top D) with VS stance turned on lvls supper fast. from 20-40 maybe up to 43 at most like this.

Now what I must say to this style is this: you need a SE thats atlest 58 (vr 3)and you need to have haste which you can get in a pot. then you want to keep your lvl of VS low it drains alot of MP so you need to be mindfull of that. Also a decent light or heavy set is needed. and a spare dagger on had incase you get in trouble and need to use mortal blow.

other wise, you'd want to keep a light set and use a dagger frm 20-52.

You end up carring alot less SS: due to having to carry HP pots and Arrows.

also an other point on why C bows suck VS B and higher: a EMi uses 10 shots per hit. a BoP uses 3 I thin it is.

now the cost on Bss is higher then Css but you save alot more by carring more SS and staying out lvling alot longer. and it uses less, which saves you money in the long run.

Tho you'd have to try and find a steady crafter that has 1 spot open that you could add greatter compressed SS to it, that will alow you to carry alot more SS and keep you out lvling longer.

The adena drop from 20-53 sucks which is why it's hard to lvl a archer till your higher.cause you can't support your self very well unless your very lucky with some chest or drop and raids.

I think if you hold out on lvling past 16 and wait till C5 come you can join a clan's acadamy and they can sponcer you for the new clan armor. then when you get your second class change you are removed from the acadamy and they get 400 rep points.

while you get a very nice set of armor that saves you alot of money which you can put towords geting your C/B grade.

Thanks for this advice, I've been following it as best as I can (The harpies were just too far apart to really be efficient).

I'm about to hit 45 and was wondering if there are any solo-able spots 52+ as I have yet to find a party LF Archers XD.

Also if anyone has any other ideas 45-52 I'd welcome any tips.

Thanks!
52+ Cemetary, first part...take quest from the Guard at the southern exit of Aden and blast away, its a good adena-quest.

58+ Forsaken Plains
61+ Going to try VoS...see if it works for an archer.

I rarely party up and Im closing in on A grade already. Although I prefer party's above solo all the time, I just draw aggro way too much, even in AL (dont get me started on catacombs)

Uhm, no, don't go to VoS as an Archer. It sucks, even if you bring a Prophet along with you.

Edit:

The only time I myself did OK in VoS is in a party of either 3 Archers, or 2 Archers + Prophet. Solo, well, I get my .... whooped real quick :p

Ok, you as 61+ archer, what is a nice place to solo then? :)
DC and FG.

Nice quests for A/g mats/recs too.

Ok thanks for the advice :) If you need 4 people to do VoS, then it's really not even worth the trip imo.
VoS is awesome for Nukers, they could solo or even CDL there all week long.

Everyone else goes like this on half of the mobs:
Miss, Miss, Miss, Miss, Hit, Miss, Miss, Miss, Hit, etc
As C5 has came, I'd like to recommend you to find a clan with clan hall recruiting to Academy. Signing up for Academy you sign a contract with the clan: they give you free CH buffs and possibility to aquire potent "clan armor", and you in return will contribute to their clan reputation score once you finish the academy.
Later you can either for your own way or stick to the clan that gave you a hand :)

CH buffs provide one f most useful things for melee characters - VR 4 buff. With this buff and few more CH buffs you can kill mobs non-stop for a whole buff round.

There are three major things that make melee way so appealing:
* VR with soulshots spam and decent weapon will render healing need to zero
* you can kill mobs in catacombs non-stop, spawn rate there is quite enough for anyone and you don't have to run far distances from one mob to another
* bows at that level drain too much mp - you regeneration rate is not enough to support decent bow, and even crappy one will make you rest for mana

With CH buffs you can concentrate on catacombs/necropolices. Necropolis of Sacrifice->Heretics Catacombs
Archer in cata = dead archer.

Yep. That's why you use a dagger until at least 40 or maybe even 52 :)

I lvl'd an elven scout for our academy, planning on going SR. Seriously, when I buffed my noob with the buffs from my SE and popped an alacrity potion, it was absolutely non-stop exp with the clan armor+mithril dagger. 36->40 was soloing lord of plains groups. I guess catacomb would not be so bad either with a dagger. I tried using top D bow, but it was simply far, far slower. VR>all. Same right now when I try DS/focus compared to Emi bow. It is simply no comparison, using a dagger is FAR FAR superior to using a bow, simply because you can kill relatively fast and you do not need heals. I expect that to change at B grade, though, when the bow masteries and lack of dagger masteries finally means that using a bow will be better kill speed.
Wow, what a difference in difficulty between
40 > 44 Lienrik, Lienlik in Fields of Whispers
and
45 > 50 Archer of Greed around Aden Castle
I was 1-shotting the Lienrik, and the archers hit SOO hard.

Anyway, I tried a dagger for a while in my 30's but there was just way too much downtime for me. I don't have the luxury of a prophet or anything, just haste and alacrity pots + self buffs.
The archers hit hard, but the xp and adena-drops are very good imo. If you have a crit + normal shot you can 2 shot most of them, it even seems they are vulnerable to more crits (thats why I suggested them really)

The lienlik's are just fun to 1-shot I admit :P

Archer in cata = dead archer.

wow what lies!

I can easily kill mobs in no time in a cata...well with a BD I two shot some of them when I crt.

dealing atlest 4K to 8k+ dmg on crts, isn't bad!

Well lucky you then...I just strongly do not advice it to go into a cata with an archer.

The problem I'm having is I cannot 2 shot them, not even close. I miss them more than I hit so they get quite a few shots on me, sometimes even stun shot me. I'm guessing this is due to i'm still lower lvl than the mobs. I have been getting decent xp in SoS and will hunt there until 47 and then I'll try the archers again.

Anyhoo, thanks everyone for your help.
Wow, I'm surprised I didn't come across this thread sooner.

48+ you should hunt the Archers of Greed and the Ratmen south-southwest of the Cemetary. 4k XP for 3 shots on the Archers isn't half bad. Careful though, they stunshot.

You can easily hunt the Archers until 52, at that point you should move inside Cem. and hunt the front third of it.

Well nice of you to post an update of where you hunt and what you think of our suggestions :)

What bow are you using right now? I had a +3 Eminence/CS at that time and a +3 BoP/CS since 52.

@ Gildran =

Already suggested ;) glad someone else posts just the same thing though.
I'm using a +6 Emi w/ CS. Now that I'm 48 they are a tad easier to hit, The xp%/hr is down a little from SoS though. Probably because I have to run so far in between mobs.

One more question if yall dont mind, do you use Plated Leather past 52? or do you use one of the B grade sets? None of them really stick out as that good bonus-wise.
You can use Plated Leather all the way to A grade really. Imo it's even highly advisable if you already had the luxury of purchasing the set.

I still use my Drake Leather set at lvl 57, cause Im saving up for my A grade.

I tried the mobs out side cem at 54 decent XP but not the best...best spot for them was next to the bridge to blazing spamp.

but orc inside is nice, and there is a quest you get from the captian at south gate. starts at lvl 52.

one of my buddies uses PL currently at 59...PL is a decent up till 61, you can even use it till 76, but the P df isn't that great..and you can't handle geting hit alot. but your kill rate is fast.

+6 emi is such a waste of cash, your wasting so much money on SS..and you can't carry crap!

I just got quiver of holding(lvl 58 HE skill)...I can hold so much crap and not hit weight it's cool. 7K Bss, 2k+ arrows, 20+ CP pots. tons of HP pots, 13+ GSAP's.

if you want a spot out of the way where no one will brother you. go to the lizards out in FoM, good XP and fast kills, specailly with your bow. and you can just leave your drops, pick them up after like 3 buff rounds. that place is good till 53.
Indeed C grade bows shoot through CSS faster then you a dwarf can make them.

But in the end, selling a +6 Emi won't be that hard ;)

Does Quiver of Holding have so much effect then? Im about to hit 58, so Im actually quite curious after all those new skill Im going to receive.

best spot for them was next to the bridge to blazing spamp.

I'm not sure exactly where this is but I will definately check this out. I was grinding right outside the cemetary. I'll also Check out Forest of Mirrors. Thanks for those tips.

I really don't know what to say about this, I tried a dagger in my earlier levels but I missed so much and had to rest to regain HP all the time. With my bow I can fight nonstop untill I run out of SS/Arrows. I can hold 1.2k arrows and 12k SS and go for over an hour (not sure of the exact time).

I enchanted the bow myself so I will at least double what it cost me. Plus I kill so much faster with a bow I can collect more medals which currently sell for 6.5k on my server. So I make a little over a mil a day just off those.
