Hi, so yeah please humor me cus I'm kinda of a newb to L2 and when I say newb I mean I've only really been playing for a month and a half so sometimes I really don't know what I'm doing. So anyway on to the point...
So I'm a level 27 Palus Knight and I was just chillin in giran looking at armor and I think I want to buy brigandine, not the complete set just yet because I REALLY can't afford that at the moment, but I CAN afford to get just the top and bottom. The only thing is if I were to buy brig armor from the armor trader in Giran I'd be almost completely broke afterwards. I've got about 543k right now and if I sell the armor I have (mithril banded which someone bought for me) I'll have around 667k. After that I'll be poor again with around 106k left over.
So basically my question is this: Is it worth it for me to get brig armor or should I just stick with what I've got?
Well light armor probably isnt the best choice for palus knight. Brig is good. But if you cant afford it go a bit lower heavy armor. Blast plate or something like that. I would reccomend getting into some sort of heavy armor. Whatever you can afford for now.
Theres really no good set bonus in D grade heavy besides brigs bonus. But I believe you need the brig helm for that bonus. Im assuming you cant afford the helm right now anyway so that set bonus is probably out of the question. So at this point I think anything heavy will work fine for you just to get started. Welcome to L2!
Ok, two best sets (Brigandine and Half-Plate) will be extremely expensive to complete at this time. (Unless you have friends/clan who can craft one for you..) And of the two Half-Plate is completely craft only. Brigandine top/bottom can be bought in the store.
This leave you with one of two choices.
1)Go for the best parts you can buy and ignore the lack of set bonuses. This is fine. I started in Beta and Brig top/bot along with Helmet, Rip Gauntlets and Boots of Power worked just fine. The full set has a nice bonus but it's not game breaking.
2)Get the next best set. (Mithril heavy) It's only slighty less pdef but all the parts are purchaseable in Giran. (Mithril Breastplate, Mithril Gaiters, Helmet and Hoplon.) If your not using a shield, don't bother with this set. The HP bonus comes from the shield and the rest of the set just gives a Poison resist. And as a DE knight the extra HP is good for you.
So either setup will be fine for you. I also think you will find the extra pdef from either much more helpful than sticking with your current light armor. Whats even more important is if your having cash troubles now, your going to have even more when you hit C grade. (Much Less B or A!) You'll want to start thinking now about how you want to make the money you will need later. Manor? Alts? Find a Clan that will help you? I used my D armor choices to outfit my alts to help me make cash. I still use those same items to this day!
I know some people will sell their old gear to pay for the new, but that can leave you without anything if it doesn't sell or you can't buy your next gear right away. It means your going to need more adena to buy your C grade, but depending on your willingness to work for your cash it can be a very good investment.
Hunt the bugbears south of hunters village ..ASAP... they will drop you a brig helm! If you don't need the helmet by the time you can kill them easily, then you'll have a good sell for your C grade. I am not sure what level you need to be for killing those, but spell casters can at about 30.

Those are L40 mobs....L40 STUNNING mobs. The OP is a L27 Palus Knight...doing that solo without a buff/heal bot is near suicide. (Or at least a road to financial ruin paved with tons of heal and haste pots.) 10 more levels and it would be possible...but by then the OP won't really need it anymore, and be looking forward to C grade instead.
/agree. karul bugbears are suicide to a pallus knight, but what about half plate armor? you should be able to kill the timak(?) orcs, in the same area as the karul bugbears, they drop half plate armor and armor tempers, if you can find someone on your server (like me!) that has the recipie they may craft it for you for 1 adena. half plate armor has the best p def of any d grade, its heavy, and it doesnt matter whether you have a helmet or not. also, for the brig set you dont need brig gloves/boots, only the top, bottom, and helmet are the set.
edit: as PainAmplifier mentioned you CAN level to 40 in armor that is not top-grade. this is sort of a general rule. without help from extensive manoring or a clan or a friend, no one can afford top-grade armor until they are almost the next grade. if you do get top grade armor, keep it and use it for alts, but main characters will typically not have the best armor/weapon/jewels for their grade. this is how the game is designed, but not how it works in practice >.<
when my little scavi was 28 i went to kill bugbears and couldn't do it very well--they are too high and their stupid stun lands a LOT. Since I was there I tried the orcs and that worked okay.
You are correct that 27 Palus Knight should be able to kill orcs--my scavi killed them reasonably well.
Although social nothing aggros right there or on the trip there--just stay away from flie-y things (haha).
Heh they will? I hunted them closer to level 38 and their stun is amazingly painful, I died many many times and not once got a brig helm. I did however get some brig helm DESIGNS and a brig shield but saying you WILL get a drop anywhere in this game is laughable.
one other thing to OP--forget the brig set bonus at 27-35.
It won't make a bit of difference in your leveling as a palus knight. quite frankly you can use the 5+ million that the helmet alone costs to play the market (I have my WS BUY brig helm designs and make brig helms to sell--what a racket!) and make more adena for c-grade. In fact, you can get into duals for about 2 million and I my server the top-d weapons, once in awhile +1 or even +2 go for about 5 million--that would be a way better use of the money than that stupid brig helm!!!!
Mithril is great if you're going sword shield. If you already have duals (without the special which doesn't come till 40) then pick the brig upper/lower and finish it off as PainAmp suggested above.
Any of the d-armors will work through the mid-30's. ANY OF THEM--don't feel like brig sets are somehow 'required'.

Taik Orcs = Forest of Mirrors
Timak Orcs = Timak Outpost (West of Oren)
Tamlin Orcs = Hunters Valley area
The Tamlin Orcs are the ones you will find next to the Karul Bugbears, and having done them for the Orc Destroyer quests I wouldn't recommend them either. (As well as other chars post 40) They hit harder than the Karul Bugbears (although they don't stun!) and take a bit more killing to put down. Also, there are enough of them there that social mobs are a definate worry especially as a fair number of them are Archers.
Even more problematic is the drop rate of parts (1/198) isn't that good for a low(er) level character. Assuming you do however manage to get the parts to drop....all you get is the parts for the TOP half of the armor! You are still going to need the BOTTOM half of the armor at the least! No, by the time you manage to get the parts for both halves you'll probably be L40 anyway. In short, not worth it compared to just getting a Mithril heavy or non-set brig.
ok so now that I got my heavy set on PTS for clan armor. I can tell you the rewords.
Heavy +5% P df, +85 hp. (922 D crys)
Light +5% P df, +3 evation.(771 D crys)
Robes +5% P df + 5% cast speed. 323 MP. (I'm hearing 771, and 722 D crys..not sure which is right)
The quest is really easy and isn't buged.
Talk to pinter one of the BS in gludio, he ask you to collect blood of mellie lizardmen. after you kill them; talk to pinter. then Get your sponcer to get you XXX D crys = to your armor type, he talks to the BS and then you talk to pinter. pinter will ask you to kill king of angle spiders..they are just north of the lizards and to the left of them. (your sponcer has to go with you, don't worry it takes about 15 minutes max to do)
once you do that go back to pinter. talk to him and he will give you your armor. the whole quest takes a max of about 30 minutes to do so long as your sponcer has D crys ready for you.
something else to consider. once you get into C grade, you can kill karul bugbears with a hatchling (get a friend or two to help you with this, pets may take some getting used to). the hatchling is level 35, so it will get regular drops from the bugbears even though they are blue to you, hate the mobs so the hatchling doesnt get hit, and eventually you will have enough parts to make a brig helm for an alt. do not try to kill the tamlin orcs with a hatchling tho, since they are social. as for armor at the present time, you should not be in light armor, do whatever you can to get into heavy, if you go sword+shield you can easily afford the full mithril set and the hoplon adds +92 hp, and you wont be easily poisoned, which helps because poison lands easily on dark elfs. if going with duals or 2handed sword, get brig, since the shield bonus is next to nil, and you can complete the set later. also, you may consider just using what looks good ^^

I'd nix that too. Decent Hatchling equip isn't cheap. >_<
