That all depends... what is the large city and what is the noob town you are trying to get back to?
Open your map (Alt+M) and look for the Prestigious Item store. The dwarf there should give you a quest to return. :)

Sounds like your in Gludin. You should have arrived right next to the Gatekeeper for that town. (Near the Church, on top the steps in the big courtyard.) Simply go back and talk to the Gatekeeper and one of the teleport options will be for you to go back to your starting village. (I can't guaruntee that you can afford the port costs though.)

Sometime people cluster a bit too closely around the gatekeepers and it can be hard to tell where they are if your not familiar with the town. Gludin is usually fairly empty, but there is often enough people around the GK to hide her if your in a hurry. The Giran Gatekeeper is practically buried all the time like that.

If your a Human....ouch. The port costs to and from Talking Island are Harsh. It would be cheaper to buy a ticket from the Harbormaster (Near the docks) and ride the boat back. (This will take a bit of time though. Just watch the ship messages so you get on the right ship.)
Nah, he's talking about the new quest you get from the GKs in noob towns, they give you a SoE to giran :p and yes, going to the prestigious items hall and doing the quest the dwarf there gives will get you back to your home town

I thought that at first...but read the text again...he says he came upon the *Gatekeeper* and teleported out...not clicked a scroll. Also note he says that he can't run back. (TI is the only town you can't walk to normally.)
Dwarf and orc town are hard to access - and remember that the quest for the newbie scrolls starts at gatekeepers for most races.
ahh sorry, it was the elf newbie town. and it was the quest the GK gave me. i can't afford a ride back so i'll be sure and look for that quest npc tomorrow. i can't remember the town name but it's something with a castle to the east of it, a ways south of the elf newbie town.

thanks for the help.
If you have trouble getting back, see if you can find a buffer who will give you Wind Walk. Then just set off running (only follow the roads so you don't run into mobs) in the direction of your town. I have done the same thing on the odd occasions I have no Adena on me. I have run from Giran to Dark Elf Village before. Took about 15 mins so WW lasted.
Just ask in the Chat:
Can someone plz give me 10k so I can port back?

Should fix it...
Don't beg ... gives people a bad impression of you!

If you follow Madders suggestion you might enjoy the look around while you run back (this of course is not an option if you are a dwarf, orc or human, but any elf is fine).

Okay, you are in Giran. This quest was supposed to let folks 'tour' Giran to see that there are tons of players in the game, but what it mostly does is get new players lost.

You can get back for free, but you need to visit four shops in Giran. First, go to the Prestigeous Items Shop, near the westernmost North exit of Giran. Click on the dude named Ghilladucci (or something close to that.) The option you want is called Once More into the Arms of the Mother Tree.

He will ask you to visit three other shops in town; the Grocery Store, the Jewlery Shop, and the Magic Shop, I think. After each one you have to return to Ghilladucci, but after the last one, he teleports you home.

Oh, to use the Gatekeeper to get back will cost a ton of money; 8100 to get to Dion, 4200 to get to Gludio, and then (about 4000) to get to the Elven Village.
go to the prestigious item guild in gludin, talk to the dwarf there, he will tell you to talk to several gatekeepers in town, and basically in an excersize in using your map. i think after 3 pointless deliverys around town you get the option to go back home. by the time you finish the quest, you will have learned to never accidently port to anywhere, ever. it is my personal opinion that the level at which this quest is allowed does not help real players, they are confused and lost five minutes into the game (though it may help RMT sellers). sure, this game has a steep learning curve, and it makes this game better than others. that doesnt mean you have to smash players into it at level 3.
