I'm interested in both PvE and PvP so I'm looking for a human fighter class that stands a chance in either. (Although I'd prefer it to excel in PvP)
I was wondering what the best class would be for me. I know other races probably have better classes than humans, but I'm only really interested in human.
So.. Any suggestions? I've heard Gladiators are pretty crap...? Gladiator was what I was originaly planning to choose.
The problem with any melee class is their kitability. Even if your dagger does 10k damage a hit, he will be taking 1k++ damage a second as he runs up to the nuker or archer.
I use a bow on my warlord for mass vs mass pvp (ironic, I know) as it's mostly fought by 2 sides standing off and nuking/shooting eachother. If you are melee you have to separate yourself from the crowd and run across the battlefield while being targeted by the entire enemy side.
as DA the only real problem I have is with nukers. archers I can take cause I always carry some sps with me so my hamstring lands 90% of the time. so I can reach them and stun the [censored] outta them :P
I have a dwarf alt that I made to make money while i sold my main's gear so I could have money to work with.
Let me say this the money that a BH makes isn't huge, but it helps, and I sometimes wish my first char was a BH instead of a Glad. I am guess that lvling a BH from 1-40 will quadruple the money you would have normally with another character and double that if you seed. So it is helpful if you will remain legit, but going legit, you have to spend considerable time making money in the market.
If you're not going to be legit, then dont' go dwarf. If you are legit then a dwarf will be very helpful, but they aren't very good at PvP and they level slowly.
Glads aren't bad they are a good class.
1.) They have some trouble vs archers & nukers do to the range in pvp.
2.) They are slow in trying to catch those classes, but come C5 they get root *YAY* you can root those ******** heh
3.) They are a good class in clans/parties, because well the nukers/archers/healers stand back to do there jobs, you are right upfront taking those hits, because you have the HP to take them. Have fun with this class they are interesting, even thou they can't 1-2 shot things like nukers. :D
Are you sure gladiators get root? I thought it was paladins nad tank classes and such.
Oh gladiators can 2 shot things like nukers.
TSS - 2xcharge stones - DSS = dead 1x mob.
I assume a glad with a very high OE may 1-hit 1x mobs with a TSS. Then again a full TSS costs 180+ mp at lvl 62.
I was thinking that if someone 4-boxed a gladidator with 3xSE at the same level, and the gladiator wore robes. Then the gladiator could actually kill almost as fast as a nuker. It would be TSS - energy stone - DSS - - energy stone - - sonic blaster - - energy stones + focus sonic - - TSS and you can keep using 2 out of 3 skills in rapid succession. You'd need the 3x SE to recharge your mp though lol.
In this scenario you could kill as fast as nuker :).
The great advantage of glads or any DD is that they can solo pve and LEVEL!!!!!!!
Tanks are tanks (if you have that mindset--which i do) but their patk is pretty ucky.
Of course nukers and archers can level.
My clanmate was a glad while I was a DA--we hit 40 the same day. He did play a bit more than me but it seemed to me that he got to 52 when I was about 48.
In leveling, the ability to chew up mobs and kill quickly is the whole story. Most of the DD classes do that really well.
Rather than ask "good" or "bad", you might consider who YOU are personally.
A DA can be tough to level solo but I'm a tank at heart--so I'll meet the commitment.
Same with dwarf--it's not enough to "start" one. You either appreciate the little guys or you don't. If you do they are a fun melee to play. If you don't I would guess they seem ponderous.
I've liked some things about the 8 different classes I've played so far.
If you ask on these forums what is "good" or "bad" you may get opinions that don't help you.
Personally, I'd rather not play than be a healer/buffer. They could be the best class in game (and as a tank primarily I LOVE them all!) but I can't think of any reason I'd want to be one.
See there? An ignorant and uninformed opinion!
Play initially what strikes you as familiar or interesting and play it up to 30-35 or so. That doesn't take months and then you can form your own opinion about that character/class.
Who knows, maybe on another server I'll try a healer :)
Glad don't get root! Awww that sucks, I though they were one of the classes that gets it, what classes get it then?
Caux..shush..stop telling people my idea's lol ;)
Glads are **** NICE to play, I really like mine :)
I tried to PvP a Sorc. in Coliseum, I was lvl58 and he was lvl63.
When we starded I used War Cry and fired off my Sonic Blast.
That compleatly removed ALL his CP and even a little of his HP.
The only problem was that the sorc. just cast sleep-slow-surrender to fire and then he nukes the hell out of me :).
If I get up close to the Sorc. and land a War Cry + TSS on him, he will almost die in one hit :)
The best part is that the Gladiator uses "Focus" and not an element as mages do. So if a mage is Silenced he is compleatly defense less, but a Gladiater doesent care, he keeps using his "Focus".
In C5 the glad gets even better (I think).
In C5 he can use Sonic Blast without "Focus Force" and he will also use a set amount of focus on eg. the TSS or DSS.
So basicly in C5 he can keep using Sonic Blast without recharging focus force and then first fire off a TSS using part of the loded force and then fire off a DSS using the remaining force.
That together with the mages getting the sleep nerf, should really make him even better or at least stand a chence killing a mage.
When I PvP a DA in similary level the score is more or less 50/50.
The main problem is that the DA keeps stunning me over and over and he also "breaks" my TSS.
The best tactic to use it to let the DA land a stun, and as soon as it wears off, then fire off the TSS.
But in C5 the Glad gets stun/sleep resistance, so I think he will get better chances against a DA in C5.
One other funny thing when PvP'ing a DA, is thet when the DA gets into panic and uses his ultimate defense, then you just move away, load a hell of a lot of focus, activate War Cry and wait for the Ultimate defence to wear off.
As soon as it runs out, you fire off the Sonic Blast and he is killed instantly :)
Ohhhh and something else :)
I compleatly forgot that I had the skill "Lionheart", because I never use it during PvE, because of the long recharge time.
It only works like 1 minute or so and it takes a lot of time to recharge BUT it significant increases your resistance to sleep, paralyse, hold(root?) and stun.
So if you ar in a PvP 1vs1 with a nuker or a DA, use Lionheart-Warcry and then wack the ********.
This combination makes the Gladiator really superior over the DA :)
This skil should be the same as the one that is comming in C5 called "War Frenzy" the only difference is that "Lionheart" is an activate and time dependen skill but the "War Frenzy" is a toggle skill that keeps working but consumes constant MP.
Ohhhh and something else :)

I only use it in PvE for "Oh 923!" situations where we pull too many stunners.
That's not true, glads get a new charge-up system. I can't say I know how it works, but it is supposedly helpful. I also think we should get a skill "detect humanoid weakness".
