solo class?

I am new to LII and my play times differ often so what if any is the best class/race to solo with? Thank you for your input.
Spellhowler, the dark elf nuker. What is your favored playstyle though because nuking isn't for everybody.
Just about any class can solo, once you get used to that class. Would need more info as to your usual play style to make a good suggestion really.
well I like an interesting class. Something maybe a little diverse. But I mostly like to kill fast.
Fastest killers are nukers (spellhowler, spellsinger, sorcerer, necromancer) and archer/dagger classes. Archers and nukers both being of course ranged attack.

"the kill fast" comment, means you want SH, which is the dark elf class, which after level 20 is the Dark Wizard---going SH! Good luck on your choice, they are a fun class to play :)
which would be easier (or more fun) to solo with, a dagger or mage nuker? Thanks again for your input.

I think both are interesting classes, I find nukers level faster then melee characters because they can usually 1-2 shot most stuff, especially when they get up higher.
(shoot from range). Dagger classes are more up front & in your face, they have some interesting skills, and they don't have as much down time as a mage class.
ok, which class would require more skill to play, the SH or a dagger play style?
Dagger is NOT strong solo unless you have a buffbox. The SH is strong but deceptive. You will still have downtime but the killrate is absurd.

If you REALLY want something self proficient, pick a summoner. Otherwise, you will eventually need to party no matter what class. Or at the very least find buffs every 20 mins.
which type of summoner would you recomend?
Once you start a toon, this first creation will be the only one that benefits from newbie guide buffs and soulshots etc and the upgrade of NG items.
Having said that, you are able to create many toons on a server so if you choose wrong, you can atleast try something else.
For 100% solo play? Phantom Summoner

And the first toon to lvl 5 gets the newbie benefits. You can play a mystic and a melee both and find out which you like (in 20 mins) and then make a decision. But truly, classes in L2 really only START to develop at lvl 40. Which is several weeks of play at 10-20 hrs a week if you are new and soloing.
I'll recommend an ES, not only because I play them myself, but because they have the most versatility in their playstyle.

I still think that PSs don't solo as well as the other two classes because they're forced to use a bad summon due to issues with managing their mana.
Is the necro a summoner? They can, and they nuke for fast kills! The down side....necro's best leveling spell is death spike and it is costly.
Yeah, i'd kill to be able to solo with soulless >.>

However, on topic. Summoners are a very good slow and steady soloer. They kill way slower than a nuker (mostly because of having to run to mobs) however, if you get a good spot, you can solo for 10+ hours with minimal expenses and no downtime (if you aren't using soul shots), good for making money. However, a spellhowler can 1-2 shot mobs, not have to run to mobs, and have some downtime.

So for slow but cheap solo leveling, go with a summoner of any sort, but for fast but more expensive solo with a little downtime, go spellhowler. (note: summoners are getting a good whack of the nerf stick for c5, so if you plan on pvp'ing go spellhowler)
A necro is not a summoner, they're a hybrid. Read their description in the party window :p

edit: and they're a bit too expensive for soloing for a first time player.
Yeah, necro is expensive, but they do get summons up to level 75, and transfer pain. Okay, so they don't get summon buffs or cubics, but curses more than make up for that.
Hybrid - they mean.....nasty pvp'er
To the OP

Basically you need to just try out some different classes. Daggers, archers, nukers, tanks almost all classes now will be able to solo in C5. Well at lower lvl's anyway. except for support classes they need help alot sooner.

Once you get up to higher lvl's 60+ anyway almost all classes will need help with buffs and healing to lvl efficiently. Nukers can still solo self buffed pretty effectivley up in to the high 60's low 70's but it really falls of fast.

I have played a glad and an Sps. The glad was a blast to play but I quit him back in C3 at lvl 61. I could still solo on green mobs but it cost alot to do so. My Sps is 66 I can still solo quite easily but with alot of down time regening mp.

The biggest thing is to play a class you enjoy and don't worry about the lvl's they will come as you play. By the time you are high enough that it seems impossible to solo you will be in a clan and will know plenty of people to party with

QFT
summoners are the only true solo class in L2
99% of the time the will be out xpped by the average spellhowler but if you want non-stop solo grindfesting summoner is the way to go

BTW
slap buffs and recharges on a necro or a SH and you make summoners cry little purple pony tears
Thank you very everyones inpute, very helpfull. I think I will go with the SH. I played her for a few hours last night and I like the fast kills and the diverse spell choice seems like it could get interesting.
Grinding a nuker is actually incredibly boring, summoners are much more fun. But it's definitely a solid choice - NCSoft likes buffing summoners up and down the wahoo with every major game update.

On the reverse, SHs cry bitter tears when they sea summoners living through 3 or 4 stunning adds while solo AoEing with clever use of TP, healpots and UD. xD

And this would be a whole lot easier if I could use the same pots as everyone else, NCSoft!
how is playing a critical strike class (focus on critical strikes)? Can they be deadly?
I'm not sure what you mean by focus on critical strike - but both archers and daggers are very powerful classes, and they do the most critical hits. Neither of them really shines solo t hough - they need buffs to work their magic.
so if i chose a summoner would ps be a good choice?
ps's are very slow to solo, i think i'll have to go into the reasons why, as summoners work a little funny. Each summoner gets 4 different summons, each with it's own upsides and downsides be it cost, exp penalty (lowers amount of experience you get from monsters) or skills, not to mention each summoner has their own unique buff for summons.

with the phantom summoner, you're forced to solo with shadow, he has a 30% exp reduction, but has a passive vamp rage (restores some hp when he hits), and you have a buff for summons that increases patk, making him very effective for killing. However, warlocks and elemental summoners can solo with either their summon that takes 30% exp, or the summon that takes 10% exp. So, despite being the ps being able to out-melee them, they're able to solo better because they can get more exp.

Also, for partying and clans, Warlocks and Es's are more popular because of their 5% drain summons. Their 5% drain summons have very useful party buffs, while the ps's summon has aoe debuff/hate (pulls aggro onto the summoner) and a heal.
The aggro goes onto the nightshade, or used to, not the summoner. Someone should really write up a summoner comparison guide. :>

Also note that Kai has the actually quite useful damage reflection shield, which throws back 20% of the damage he receives - considering that his PDef is very low, he takes massive damage - and that in turn means a rather nice amount of extra damage through the reflection shield.

Also, both the Merrow and Kai run significantly faster than the shadow, allowing ESs and WKs to hunt in safer spots with larger distances between mobs at the same efficiency. :)

PS: On the downside, phantom summoners look awesome, and the rest of us just look sort of dorky - the neon purple pony just ain't helping.
Woops! typo! summon!

But yeah, we're the most awesome looking summoner going around :D

Someone should really write up a summoner comparison guide. :>

Ive wanted to play a summon for quite a while now, but I could never decide which one to play.. So I would definitelly swear eternal gratitude to the kind soul who would write such a wonderful thing as that guide.. :) Any takers? :p

Do you think a howler, no buffs, can keep up?
Self-buffed - Summoner = Solo King, hands down.
Not after level 70 sith, soloing SH without buffs is almost impossible. Even if you take the chance to plus up a weapon to have the power, you will still lack the mana to keep a long exp grind going.
ok this is really good information. I played a melee class alittle too and I think they may be more interesting. Now I am trying to decide between a treasure hunter and a plains walker. Any ideas? :)

Both are good classes, I see more TH's around then PW.. I can't remember if both classes get this, but I know the TH gets Black stab new C5 skill & then old skill fake death.. Which is really cool.. apparently Dagger classes are FOTM of C5..
I would go Summoner if you pick nuker, I heard they are sometimes hard to play, but you get a bit of both worlds, melee & nuker. You have some nukes at the beginning, you can fight along side your servitor like a melee & you have heal/buff skills like a healer/buffer to heal you servitor..They are a great class to solo with & you always have company *YAY*
