The tenth Lineage II server, Franz, is planned to open with the launch of Chronicle 5. This server will be designated as a European server like the Teon server. All players are free to choose any server, but Franz will use European-centric time for castle sieges and other game systems.
Nice. Thats pretty sweet stuff. Im not european but may just consider going to this. Be nice to see how the game is when everyone is new since I wasnt here in the beginning.

Or it could go the other way around. Have alot of good honest ppl want to start on a clean server. If they work hard at it, they might beable to keep the trash out ;)
Or atleast keep them from over running the server like some out there.

oh come on everyone will begin on a completely level playing field. Thats great news for players like me who missed prelude. I hear good stories about when the game started.Now I cant wait to see what its like when everyone is new.
Sorry mate, but it won't be anything like prelude. Well maybe for the first few days. But back then we didn't have the Cats or Necro's. And for the most part there wasn't that many areas to lvl on 2x or 4x mobs.
Where as now a days you have all the buffs for new players, and you can lvl much much faster through the first 40 lvl's. Though I bet NOS will be crazy for a lil while ;).
But I am scared to see all the funny named dwarfs in dwarf land is for the first few days. :p

This isn't a doomsday post, far from it, so please don't get the wrong idea. L2 will continue as long as NCNA chooses to continue updating for us, and likely until L3 comes out... but, I really don't feel that at this point that making a new server is the best strategy. I seriously can't see how it would attract new players, all this will do is shift more players from other servers (mainly the least popular ones) over to the new server, leaving the remaining players on the other servers to suffer in a half-empty world.
I think instead of just saying "there are no plans to [do whatever]", some of us would greatly appreciate a reason why there are no plans to do such things, as they are clearly possible (proven by the tournament server) and would only make the game better for everyone. Higher server population means more people per server to play with and pvp with. More clans and alliances on different sides to compete for sieges, castles, and raids rather than lopsided 2-way battles.
Erica and Kain are already at Light population most of the time, and if you actually take time to look around, they are boringly empty. I play on Erica. I simply do not have time to start a new character on a new server, as much fun as it would be. What happens when the 10th server comes up and lots of Erica players decide to migrate over there knowing that it will end up like another Teon (heavily populated)? Am I expected to just keep happily chugging along alone?
I'd just like to know what exactly the strategy behind this new server is, and perhaps a bit more than the "there are no plans to" line. :)

Well fair enough, and personally I don't like the idea of transfers to a new server either.
I just think there are a few servers in the NA community that are far superior to the rest in terms of community quality, player attitudes and amount of farmers, or how powerful they are. It just seems a shame that so many good people are stuck with rotten apples.
well its came at an interesting point of time. New players and Lineage2 oldies may all move. I think the fresh start will be productive for the server. A better teon :)
I can see this being good for Euros but a horriable idea for the rest of us. Cant you see the population goign down on all servers and the complete 0 attention to advertising of this game. You now make a new server that will take some players from all existing servers making them even worse. You have no plans on transfers or mergers so it will only get worse.
Please get it into some peoples at NC heads to do some of the following if you are going to make stupid moves like this.
Advertising, WoW advertises in every mag I see
CDs trials in popular magazines, WoW does.
C5 copies of L2 actually on Game shelfs, Wow has them out
Actual L2 game cards on shelfs
Get into a serious consideration on server mergers and or transfers.
None of the above is a new idea and has been beat into your thick heads for years now and you still do nothing but add more servers. No one asked for making things worse for the rest of us.

BTW you should really do more advertising... also it cant be that people who want to start with L2 dont know where to find this game, because most stores dont have it :(
L2 in the NA/Euro market is actually increasing in it's player base. Check out the noob towns, they're not empty anymore. You can also go to mmorpg.com and look at their forums. L2 doesn't have a lot of company advertising but the current player base is spreading it by word of mouth which is attracting a lot of new players.
Actually L2 has some advertisement and I think getting a large presense on fileplanet was a great move, especially with L2 being on the top downloaded for over 6 months straight.
Word of mouth is every good, but what they need to do is get them back in to stores. Like Ebgames or something and have, if posible, lower the monthly cost. That way people will play it more. Think of the free mmo, guild wars when it came out. Tons of people got it.

well.. anyway 60% still gonna Uber fast bot up some chars like on EVERY server, than most ppl will go back to theyir original servers since there is no point on the new one,, and since Ncsoft is doing such a great job at fighting against Bot's - we have no chance of a legit new server.
I REALLY didn't expect this move from NC, it's kind of a pleasnt supprise but im torn between spending hours and hours on a new server or to keep playing my HE that i just got to lvl 70 :S
I played Lineage 2 for over 1 year but when my real-life changed so that i had much less time i quitted because in my opinion it's senseless to play a game like Lineage2 when you can't play at least 30-40 h per week.
So i am asking if maybe the new server will be a relaxed server with a fixed maximum playtime (e.g. : 15 hours with 4x xp) per week ? Or are you ever gonna make a relaxed server ? The advantages of a relaxed server would be big (and i know that there exist relaxes servers at least in korea)
* bigger player base, because many players with a maximum play-time of 10 or 15 hours per week would stay with lineage 2 or come back to lineage 2 (like me and 2 friends of mine).
* fewer farmers and ebayers : because of the fixed maximum playtime farming 24/7 isn't possible and so ebaying will be very very expensive (maybe there would be no ebayers and farmers - a dream of me)

Honestly, how does NCSoft turn down easy money? I prefer that L2 keeps its reputation as hardcore, but the reality is that higher subscriber numbers means better support.

When I tried the Auto Assault beta, one of the first things I did when I (finally) saw another player was try to shoot them.
Somehow I'm picturing that an hour after the server launches there will be an entire clan of 70+ players in s-grade.
Their alliance will hold all the castles the second week.
A year later every one of them will swear up and down that they 1) hate bots and ebayers, and 2) are the only honest players cause they've been around from the start.
As it being hosted in Germany please tell me your not using Verio to host the server? I've played an other MMO that used them as hosts, and they sucked big time.
I love the idea, as I’m a new player and leveling when all other people are 40 levels ahead of you is kinda depressing, but to be honest, I’m afraid the bots will gimp the playing experience, as there will be plenty of people with plenty of cash and high levels just a week after the server starts. But anyway, I will give it a try, I will have 2 weeks of play after the server opening, and if it will be same old, well, even though I like this game a lot, I just cant play under those conditions. But hey, I have my hopes up, it’s a fresh start, who knows, the GMs might try something new.
Sure thats true. I have accepted being killed to be part of the game. If anyone is discouraged by being pk'd I have to ask what game description they were reading when they decided this was the game for them.

If they are PKing they will lose their free newbie weapons - so you should be at an advantage - also low level drops from PKers are very nice when you have 2k adena to your name :)

There will be no boxed buffers to level at high speeds legitly.
The will be no resistance to RBF at raid bosses and in Giran.
For long time the will be no competition in Giran to regular RGI's.
In short :
All kinds of cheaters will have insane advantage over legit players.
Hi, I'd like to know whether you guys are or are not recommend players in NA attempt to play on the new server. Specifically I'm interested in what the ping rates will be? I'm sure you would not be able to tell us, everything depends on your current location in NA and connection speed.
I do know first hand that many people that played L1-NA (back in the day....) from europe would get disconnected because the the trans-atlantic pipe they were on.
So I'm wondering if I missed first round on sept 1st and I'm still here I might make a char on the new server, but if I'm going to get a 600+ ping, I think it might be advisable to let people in NA know ahead of time (if possible) so they don't flood the board after the server launchs all disappointed it's so lagged.
I'm guessing the isp your using in Germany, their backbone will probably just reach to a trans atlantic pipe? It's basically structured for european's?
This will be a longer trip for NA players than the european players had to reach the teon server which was located in NY next to a trans atl pipe? correct me if I'm wrong.
It's basically from wherever you are in the US, prob thru NYC to europe, then germany and the Franz server. I'm glad I'm not a west coast player. In the midwest, this might be ok for me... maybe...I know I considered teon before the information on the server move, it was the best ping time I had. Like 23 ms, and I'm from the midwest. I do of course have broadband. But my ping to the servers in LA can be quite high in the evenings... 300 ms... :/
And lastly, I hope you guys got a good isp... Because you do have a playerbase from the usa currently on teon and the server move might cause them connection problems, while alleviating those for people living in europe.

Teon and Franz will be located in Germany. They are being or moved or they are already there.
Teon's still on the east coast. 29 ms ping. Kain 653 ms ping. lol
edit: **** bartz is only 75 ms ping. is that one in austin? that'd be a good idea of what my ping would be for a beta i'm hoping to enter, if the servers are going to be physically located there. lol
I can play on Teon with little lag currently, while being in Europe. There are times, of course with horrendous lag, but that's life. Most of the time I don't have real issues with lag. I imagine it will be the same for Americans playing on European servers after they've been moved. I think I usually have around 118 ping on Teon.
Im sure u are aware of the fact that on other forums, cheaters and farmers are already openly stating they will mess this server up as they did with all the other servers.
As the evolution of the new server will be closely watched by many players, u can expect a storm of protest from the legit players if this indeed happens.
Now u can either chose to not care , or to actively monitor them.
As far as I know Teon is still currently in NA.
After C5 both Teon and Franz will be in Germany.
There's no way to gauge right now NA ping on Teon or Franz, except if we assume it is the same ping Euro players get on NA servers.
Also Franz was made as a result of Teon being heavily loaded with players in Euro normal playing hours. There are no specially enforced rules that would make it " a clean start, bot free server". It is just a secondary Euro server because Teon was full (the rest of the servers have plenty of room for more people, but Euros were crammed on only one server).
It will not by any different from any other servers, farmer-wise unless its population choses not to buy adena or items with RL currency.
The only major difference that you will see on this server in three-four months from now (when compared with NA servers) will be the different siege hours and physical location.

The weekly server maintenance scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, has been extended to approximately four hours, from 10:30 AM CDT to 2:30 PM CDT. Hardware maintenance will be performed during this downtime.
Additionally, the Teon server will be physically located in Europe after the completion of the downtime.
You guys win a cookie for the week, your looking ahead for your current playerbase by doing this. For those currently living in the usa connecting to teon and for those in the usa planning on possibly playing franz from the usa. Might as well get pingplotter out tommorow and fix any major problems on the route to that server as it's going to be the same physical location for franz, monitor your projected bandwith usage, etc.

lol, I gotta ask... are you going to use the new server hardware for teon when it's put up in europe? or has it arrived yet? arriving the same time? Is the new server hardware already setup and just waiting on your charactor database from teon to be to be inserted into the new server hardware already in place over there? I mean you tend to see new servers go up in games and the server for whatever reason is bugged because of things like bad ram and memory leaks. I'll never forget Great Lakes server going up after *some other game went retail* and every 5-10 mins the server would crash and then a few mins later go back up and you'd run to your corpse- repeat for days and weeks....lol.
Or... will you perhaps setup teon on it's current hardware and put up franz on a test server type configuration with the new hardware before the launch to test-check for any hardware problems and or problems with the server code?
Can we expect a test franz server in the list before c5 release next tuesday?

Not if they were in the game before Teon arrived. Then they all had to play in foreigners' timezones.
