I stopped reading here:

Early into this project the company developed certain generator configurations that appeared to be over 100% efficient.

Considering it breaks the conservation of energy laws of physics.

Anyway, i assume they did it on purpose or someone needs to brush up on their arithmetic and physics.

Qais
They are doing SOMTHING wron when calculating the efficiency.....

You never know, some dumb -_- out there probably did input/output instead of output/input.
Just think of the weapons they could make with those things!

But yeah, doesn't sound possible to me, but what do I know?

But yeah, doesn't sound possible to me, but what do I know?

The truth? Common sense? Simple physics?
But when has physics ever been simple? Don't you know the world is flat?

But when has physics ever been simple?

I don't know, I guess it just makes sense to me.

Physics - makes sense
Women - don't make sense

These are two truisms by which I live my life.
Physics makes sence until you start looking at how energy works at the Quantum level. Nobody ever said Quantum Mechanics was simple. >.<

And don't get me started on String Theory...

EDIT: And nobody understands women, not even women. :D
well if effeciency is everything good that you get out of something. waste is bad... hang on.... ive not even finsihed school and that thing looks bogus.

QFT
I dont understand myslef ><
pffft.

it would be inefficient to begin your efficiency calculations on the quantum level.

also, elro, youll know why its a hoax when you read a little deeper into what they wrote there. im not giving anything away, just pointing out there IS a flaw.

just pointing out there IS a flaw.

Yeah, it's in the part I quoted. No digging necessary.
actually, while that is also a flaw, theres a rather lengthy explanation of why they think it doest actually violate the laws of the universe.

if i was to draw a picture for you of my opinion it would be ... http://www.firearmsid.com/jpgs/spat28.jpg
I hate these kind of things so much. Very similar to the "Exploring the 10th Dimension" and "Final Theory" websites. I hope this one is sarcastic but in general it is nonscientists misinterpreting somethign very well known and doing so on a grand scale.

They have not created a perpetual motion machine, because perpetual motion is magic. I know someone will respond with somethign about quantum mechanics probably something gleaned from that attocity "what the bleed do we know?" It's not spooky it's not wierd.

Physics IS simple, first principles are basic and can be undersood by childen. A specific problem is where the dificulty comes in. Think of it like L2. You go kill stuff an level up. That doesn't begin to explain the game but it's the core concept and everything else is just details.
Heh, I guess the name's not for nothing.

If it were real, it would be all over international news.

PS: I understand myself. The concept is simple: +Elves +Chocolate Pudding -Analysis -Linear Algebra -> Happy

Actually Elro, some astrophysics calculations already push the limits of physical laws. Einstein broke the laws of physics as well. Then again, the further technology progresses, the harder it is to advance (kind of like velocity :P)

This, however, is a complete joke. They've likely reinvented a Brownian ratchet (which is what this sounds like). However, in theory, it is possible to peak 100% efficiency. As they stated, they don't have a way to harness it, they just happen to think they've violated the laws of physics (yeah so did Richard Faynman..but he was smart enough to know better).
(Quick reply)

I wasn't saying I believed this (as evidenced by my first post on the subject), just playing Devils advocate.

Reading comprehension FTL. :(

They aren't "pushing" the limits of physical laws. Read the part I quoted again:

Early into this project the company developed certain generator configurations that appeared to be over 100% efficient.

They aren't approaching 100% efficiency. They aren't "achieving" 100% efficiency. They've "exceeded" 100% efficiency.

Einstein broke the laws of physics as well.

This kind of statement makes me laugh. It's kinda like if someone actually comes up with better theory of how gravity works. Do all of the planes fall out of the sky once he/she publishes because they're using "old laws"? Lol.

As do I when I actually have a valid counterpoint. This is merely snakeoil.

Einstein broke the laws of physics as well.

That's just naive. Much of history is filled with abrupt usurpations of accepted scientific theory. Only in recent history has this type of thing slowed down (due to as I stated earlier). But if nature can obtain nearly efficient processes, is it not possible that we could to? Rewriting the laws of thermodynamics has been done a billion times.

Newton:
Absolute, true, mathematical time, of itself, and from its own nature, flows equably without relation to anything external.
Einstein:
Yeah, umm Newton, you're cool and that's very good and all, but umm...not when this happens.

Einstein ran two principles: the laws of physics (whether we know them or not) are fixed for all observers AND the speed of light is fixed FOR ALL OBSERVERS.

Do I need to go into the implications of these laws or should we drop the issue.

And Einstein didn't even build a test rig when doing this. All he did was think.

These gentleman could have stumbled, blindly, into something similar. They didn't, but dismissing the possibility is just silly. Test it, ridicule them, and raise the price of oil. Daddy needs a new pair of shoes.
You keep saying "nearly" and they said surpassed 100% effeciency. That is what I dismiss.
Recently the speed of light has been shown to not be a constant also, can't remember where I saw that but it throws Einstien's theory of relativity out the window.
Absolutely true. We have seen with great detail how gravity bends light. There is a wealth of information regarding things Einstein's theories mispredict. Just as Newton, just as any description of the universe.

We use laws to describe the universe as equations. They represent reality, but one should not define reality by them.

Recently the speed of light has been shown to not be a constant also, can't remember where I saw that but it throws Einstien's theory of relativity out the window.

Actually no, it does not. Gravity creates a potential gradient just like any other field. The speed of light is constant within a constant potential ie a uniform medium. The issue with gravity is that any time you are near a mass (and anything we can see is fairly big) you are experiencing a noticible gravitational gradient. This is actually one of the experaments used to support general rel.

It's also notable that relativity isn't what made einstein famous, it was the photoelectric effect. Relativity is one of the least undersood part of modern theory. The main reason is because it requires such exceptional energies to test. the Tevatron can barely do substantial experaments with relativity and as it's name suggests it can exceeed 1.5 TeV. Sure that's maybe 4 9's on a proton (no i'm not going to calculate it for accuracy) but try that on a deuteron or any sort of complex matter and you have issues. Some things like entanglement and phase movement are used to convince people of FTL but they are used like buzzwords and in cute little examples to make your average person say "wow physics is wierd and hard".
Physics4ever, marry me.

Likewise.
lol @ watanabi said...thats funny.

Some really good points.

It wouldn't be a shock to see that there is a chance at 100% success, but to achive over 100% success is a bit out there.

I read a lil frother down about 2 more paragrahps then stoped. I think it's a hoax...too much didn't make sence in it.

I think they need to rewrite their findings.

BTW light bends. light is bouth a wave, and a particle. GG I need to reread my books lol. too much L2 time not enough reading.
Everything is both a wave and a particle. Light is nothing special except that it has a size such that the wave nature is redily evident as opposed to a basketball which in which there is no meaningful reason to care about its duality. It is still both (more precisely the particles in it are both) but it really doesn't matter.

As to being shocked if they approached 100% efficiency. I would. Life and the universe are entropic. That is to say things achieve a state of lowered energy. By that i mean that you can't get something for nothing in either life or the universe in general. A refrigerator takes heat from objects and puts it into an atmosphere warmer than the interior. This is an inverted version of what's known as a heat engine. This process is seemingly contrary to entropy but people neglect that we provide power to the device. This power runs a compressor which runs the heat engine contrary to it's natural tendencies and produces more heat than it removes.

See what people ignore is that any given system has a maxiumum POSSIBLE efficiency. This is a hard cap on what CAN be done assuming perfect technology and ideal systems. I can think of possibly 3 systems which have a 100% ideal or "second-law" efficiency. Most systems on the other hand re much worse. A standard 1990's ish car engine for example hits a cap at about 50%. Literally nothing short of magic can eliminate this cap. It is caused by the need to move parts and gas expansion work and such.

These people claim magic. Approaching 100% efficiency is reason for literally billions of dollars of research every year. These people claim to have done it with simple materials and a smokescreen.

It is caused by the need to move parts and gas expansion work and such.

Only error o.O That is the captured energy. The lost energy is the heat to the surroundings and elevated temperature of exiting gases. Carnot and all.
My bad for nto being specific. I was refering to friction and non usable motion. Sorry.

Everything is both a wave and a particle.

teory says so, remember phisics is only a set of teories, you cant say that smth IS like in the theory, you only can say that theory describes smth better or worse... so theory is only the way to describe and enable to do some calculations, and predict what should happen... so both theories you mentioned are only the way to describe reality, phisicists are still too stupid to figure out one theory which will describe the reality well, btw this two works quite well :)

absolutely right :)

btw remember Einstein's equation:
E = m*c^2
can imagine how many enargy is in one litre of water... so 100% eff is hard to get ;(... ;P
Duality is not 2 sets of theories and theory is not a good term for them. Like relativity it is not considered a theory any more really but the name persists. In many ways QM is more determanistic than classical mechanics, the issue regarding probability comes into real systems because we lack the physical capability to calculate the solutions exactly

Teh 100% efficiency is not reffering to mass energy or anything liek that. You are completely misinterpreting what i have said, this website and thermodynamics in general. They are not talking about energy to matter conversion they are talking about obtaining a system which produces more power than it uses.

Seriously, this is what I do for a living, please don't bring psudoscience and what you learned from yoru high school classes into this. It has no place and all it does is serve to promote false generalities to the public and distance them even further from science and understanding.

Yes but that's a great power during a proposal :P Hit a tough question and just throw out buzzwords and jargon at a Senator who has no clue or real vested interest in what you are talking about.
So this one time, I cracked a joke, and milk shot out my friend's nose.

Discuss.
Man that's a whole lot of not cool. That's painful.

yep..I've had that happen to be before. it surely sucks.
My head hurts from reading this thread.
