does killing another player grant any sort of rewards at all?
usually epeen flexing on l2blah....
No. Keep in mind if you pk, once you are over 5 pks you can drop items/equipment with no restrictions while red.

If you hate your gear and want to get rid of it while receiving nothing in compensation, this could be considered a reward, I suppose.
are your kills recorded in any way?
No, it doesnt give any ingame reward. In fact it is rather unrewarding when the person you killed doesnt fight back. You turn red and can drop gear when you have killed your 5th victim.

Of course some sadistic people get their kicks from hurting others.
1st tab on the character status menus, bottom right, I believe.

Killing people is actually quite fun (in-game of course). The problem with this game is the consequences are too **** high for legit players.

If there were no consequences for PKing, i'd pk random people whenever the voices in my head told me to. It's not like you lose much in this game if you die by pk. Yeah 4% is rough. But nothing compared to dying diablo 2 hardcore server.

If you take Queenofmoms/ziggster/manxis . . . he's not hurting people because he is sadistic or evil. He's doing it because it's fun for him, it's legit, and it's how he makes his money.

I work the market, he ensnares people in his schemes and gets their gear. He's still better than any bot, at least he's legit. Sure, he's a jerk in-game, but this is a role-playing game and he takes the role of a griefer. Did I get mad at him for picking up my FP helm when I died? Did I get mad at him for messing around with me on numerous occasions?

Truthfully, I did at first, but it is his role. If you get attacked by a shark in the ocean, do you get mad at the shark for attacking you? No, it's what the shark does. (of course QoM has free will but we'll ignore that fact). A griefer griefs, yes it screws around with people, but you know what happened on diablo 2 with the pkers, people made anti-pkers and it was fine. This is an open PvP game, if someone wants to grief that's their prerogative, adapt and move on.

Griefer > bots

In conclusion, I don't agree with griefers being sadistic or having RL issues that they need to express in a video game.
