Mac users may be able to play L2 !

client would still be windows based tho.

when one can run under mac truly, watch this game EXPLODE
Yeah it would still be windows based, but they can still run it on their machines without having to buy a pc. They just need to get a copy of windows and run Apple Bootcamp.
:O all 3 mac users? wow!

I know of someone who does this and he says it works fine. When I buy my new Mac I might consider running a second account from my Mac.
Search for posts around the time the intel laptops launched, this is done by LOTS of people.
The Truth About Macs (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20060513) Sorry Mac lovers, you got nothing. The only thing a Mac is good for is sticking post-it notes on.

OS X anyone? (http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/01/25/security.flaws.in.os.x/) I'd rather run a dedicated Linux box then some bastard child of a Mac OS.

User interface? Give me more then 1 button on the mouse for a start. Heard of double-clicking? Shift selecting a multiple drop down box too hard for you?

Ohhh and Safari, the Web Browser that all web designers forget about, lets see by supporting IE and Firefox I have 96% of the browser population .. is the extra 2% worth the effort considering Macs can already use IE and FF? Nope .. throw it into the "i give a sh**" basket along with Nutscrape. The ppl using the other 4% of "browsers" are either web bots or ppl too noob to use your site anyway.

Lets face it .. the raw CPU power under the hood, being driven by the Mac OS is like putting a Ferrari engine into the chassis of a Hyundai Excel .. its just CRAP.

And yet, I still use mine over my PC for my work.

I suppose I'll just have to find the strength to go on.

Thanks for the info though.

(oh, and I completly agree about the 2 button mouse. Which is why I use one with my Mac.)

being rude ... all your credibiliy points went poof...
and you don't seem to know what you're talking about.
MacOS = MACH != MacOS X = BSD... And BSD is quite higher on the security list than Linux...

you never heard about the mighty mouse I bet? You're only 2 years late.

Even your comparisons are lame.
You have raw pwoer and EVERY benchmark on earth shows that application tasks run faster on OS Ten than on Windows.
IE : convert a doc in pdf. Apply a photoshop filter and so.
Grow up. it's evident you don't like the OS. It's also evident you don't know jack about it.

:O all 3 mac users? wow!

I don't have a Mac but I read articles and projections about the IT scene.
It is currently admitted amongst investors and stock rating firms that Apple has an adoption ratio higher than Dell and HP and that Apple may outperform Dell in market share in less than one year.

I love ppl who post on subjects they know nothing about. So fun...

MacOS = MACH != MacOS X = BSD... And BSD is quite higher on the security list than Linux...

Let's be real...

MacOS is a "hybrid" based on BSD... it is NOT BSD due to the amount of changes. its "security" is being highly questioned right now... especially as provisioned by Apple defaults.

Provided the user is willing to jump through Apple's hoops and fix the silly "ease of use/dummymode" features, its security can be made better. Note that Microsoft isn't exactly innocent here either.
It just a LOT easier to remove dummymode from Windows than it is from MacOS.

Get me a multi-user prompt boot for the MacOS (no mac users.. thats single-user mode only), and some time and I may never again purchase another PC.

I REALLY want to like Macs... I just can't stand having a machine that won't let me in when I tell it to.

A mac (with MacOS) is like a VERY stubborn cat... The Mac decides if it will put up with what you told it to do... meanwhile it will start licking itself and consider your proposition...

A PC (with windows) is like a really dumb dog. If you tell a PC to jump off a cliff... it will do just that... indeed it will do anything ANYONE tells it to do with enough force. Train it to say no and it will say maybe...

Both systems have problems... anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you.

you never heard about the mighty mouse I bet? You're only 2 years late.

I agree that apple has endeavored to change this... but frankly... it still doesn't work as well as a PC due to simple base-level integration.

You have raw pwoer and EVERY benchmark on earth shows that application tasks run faster on OS Ten than on Windows.

Neither side has made a fair comparison... apple people are horrible at configuring PCs for some reason and vice versa. God forbid you get similar priced computers with similar stats for memory/harddisk/video subsystems, set the right settings to get the best performace from BOTH to see what actually works better... Comparing $5000 apple powerhouses to $400 PCs is all too commonplace.
One more famous comparison used a closer set of hardware setups, but only loaded the windows default driver set. This is only the beginning of the list... and no, intel/microsoft are not innocent either.

In real-world performance, mac and PC are similar in performance, but have some interesting ups and downs. The mac wins in some cases and loses in others. The results are usually a LOT closer than either company (or fanatic/rabid fans) want to admit.

PCs crash more often... but are easier to fix... macs crash a LOT more often than the fanatics will admit and crash HARD and tend to die and become unfixable (or not worth fixing) MUCH faster.

(I work for a web company that still supports both... and one of a very few people who can and does support macs in my area.)

Neither mac(MacOS) or PC(windows) are perfect... and both are different and for differet types of people.

The ideal computer would be a mix of PC and Mac features.
Lets see, I can get a mac and only run a fraction of the things I need, or run windows and do them all.

Choice seems pretty clear.

QFT

I used to think "well, macs are just good for different things" or "macs are good, too!" or other bunk.

After being forced to use a Mac at work for about 2 months now, I think "macs are good for burning". And I'm not thinking about the CD kind of burning...

My PC may crash every once in a while...but it's easy to fix when it does so, it's easy to get support for it, ANY program I want to run comes in a PC version, etc.

My Mac doesn't crash often...but the programs on it crash incessantly. When it does have any kind of hiccup, it's nigh-unusable, and good luck getting support, even from IT places they SAY they support Macs. 90% of the things I want to run don't have a version for Mac, and when I go looking for a Mac version from another company, it's a half-***** crappy version that 'kind of' works.

Thanks, but I'll stick with my PC.
I use a PC for Audio Production, it's not the fastest box I would like to have but it does very well. Alot of people swear by the Mac for this, but I've talked to otherpeople that have used both types and say for comparible priced setups, there is very little difference. I know how to manipulate things in my current setup and for that reason I will probably never switch over.

And I think that is really what it comes down to. I’ve spoken to die hard computer fanatics who love the Mac, others who hate it.

What it comes down to, in this year 2006 is personal preference.

As I’ve stated above, I have a Mac and PC. Both pretty good machines. I’ve used the software I need in order to compose on both and I prefer how they run on my Mac. I also prefer the Mac interface.

I don’t really believe one is completely superior over the other. It’s all based on personal experience. I’ve been using computers since 1988 (probably not as long as many of you). But I don’t care too much about tweaking the computer (which I suppose you can do to some extant in OS X) as I only want to use it as an appliance to do what I need to do.

People who prefer Macs need to use computers in this fashion. They don’t ever want to bring up a command line. They just want to start their programs. They want troubleshooting to be simple. Even if it does mean that you have to restart (though quite frankly I think that is an OS 9 thing).

People who use Macs and prefer them aren’t going to switch just because someone insists that they are the wrong tool. Just not going to happen. This debate has been going on ever since there was need for a debate.

The truth is that Macs are here to stay. At least for the foreseeable future.

So, getting back to playing Lineage 2 on a mac. Yes… you can use it on an Intel Mac using Bootcamp.

Should a mac L2 client be made? As a die hard mac user I say no. There really is no reason to as I just see NC soft losing money on that proposal.

In the end, no one is really going to change their mind so “it is what it is”.
More like what you need it for. You can do just about everything on a PC, where many of those things are lacking on Macs, but if you don't need those things they're fine.

Command line? lol.

Well, I was referring to Linux I suppose. My roommate uses Linux and I always see him typing in order to do things.

And before someone goes on about command lines and what Windows and Linux has... that is why I use a Mac as my main computer. I don't want to delve into these things. As long as I can compose in a way I find "agreeable". :D
The thing I like about my pc's are the obvious reasons. I built every one of them. I dont know if thats even possible with a mac. But my machines are fully customized to how I want them. Thats awesome. I would really like to try a mac for music production but also my pc works just as well for now.

Lets see, I can get a mac and only run a fraction of the things I need, or run windows and do them all.

Choice seems pretty clear.

Hrm, guess you didn't look that at my first post that macs can run windows if they have an intel cpu. >.> So actually a mac can do more than it used to. Granted I hate macs with a purple passion, I am impressed.

The thing I like about my pc's are the obvious reasons. I built every one of them. I dont know if thats even possible with a mac.

It's not. But that's the beauty of PC's. You get to customize and tweak them in order to work in ways that you want them to.

But remember... Mac users don't want to customize the machine too much (though I know of a few who can and do do this). They want to just turn it on and "go".

As long as you are enjoying your music production software on your PC and it works well for you then I don't see any reason to really change.
Not so much change. Just add to my arsenal. Ideally I would have 6 different synthesizers to. I am curious to check out what a mac can do. But im in no hury to pay for one when I can pay for pc's one part at a time if im short on money.
Way off topic but try the garritan orchestra, strings... etc. ;)
Oh yeah! YAY for mac user being able to play L2!!

Ill look into that.Check my link in my sig im not much of a strings guy. But worth a shot.

Let's be real...

That alone made my day seeing the rest of this post....
So many jerks feeding so many untruths...

It's not a hybrid. It's based on. As if you took Red Hat and changed the UI yourself.
No exploit has been found that wasn't retracted or proved false.

Get me a multi-user prompt boot for the MacOS (no mac users.. thats single-user mode only), and some time and I may never again purchase another PC.

I mean .. man.. you're weird. If you add users in a Mac and ask for a password you 'HAVE' a multi user mac. If you have only one user.. you have a one user mac ? Is that any disturbing ? Feed it with users. It's as multi user as every other distro out there.

I REALLY want to like Macs... I just can't stand having a machine that won't let me in when I tell it to.

Ifz you have troubbble logginf in, learnt to spel.

A mac (with MacOS) is like a VERY stubborn cat... The Mac decides if it will put up with what you told it to do... meanwhile it will start licking itself and consider your proposition...

Like when you're typing and windows think you'd prefer to be interrupted to have a warning box ?

Still a lot less than any other one.

I agree that apple has endeavored to change this... but frankly... it still doesn't work as well as a PC due to simple base-level integration.

what is base level integration? Apple controls everything. You won't find a more integrated and thought piece of software on earth.

You have raw pwoer and EVERY benchmark on earth shows that application tasks run faster on OS Ten than on Windows.

Neither side has made a fair comparison... aadmit.

Nor you... But from sheer experience I have.

Sorry but I work with people using macs. Os X just don't crash. You're wrong. Period.

(I work for a web company that still supports both... and one of a very few people who can and does support macs in my area.)

You must then be doomed or very bad at it.
The only thing that can make something crash on a mac is improper fonts or bad font software.
And then only the app will crash.
Since I've been playing with osX. (early days) I've only seen once a kernel panick. The famed 1GB limit on Entourage had corrupted the filesystem.

Lets see, I can get a mac and only run a fraction of the things I need, or run windows and do them all.

Choice seems pretty clear.

You have a habit of being smarter.
I don't have a single task for which there is no Mac software.
You have a fetishist cellar managing software?
The only software I'd miss on a Mac is L2. And now you really can run L2 on a Mac. I've ran L2 on my bro's 20" Intel iMac.

You guys know that you have command shell in every *nix right ? bash, korn shell, whatever. You can even run X11.

And you can customize e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g on a mac. From the greeting logo to the famed steel themes.

Man it's really weird to read that thread.
It's like you're walking in town and ppl believe that paved roads are a myth.

About every legend on earth about Macs dating 15 years old are in this thread.

No sofware on Mac ?
Yeah, right. (http://guide.apple.com/)
And you can compile or run binaries for almost every linux piece of software.

Can't customize ? Look at the /Library folders guys.
It's so untrue lol.
And I know many coding ppl who went from linux to Apple. I mean, even Dvorak says a Mac is the best pc around.
Not to mention the Wall Street Journal. But I bet they're dumb.
The only reason you could run them is if you run Windows.
Run what ?

Grow up. it's evident you don't like the OS. It's also evident you don't know jack about it.

QFT: It was just a rant to stir up Mac users, and in that regard it seems to have done well. Nothing better then watching a Mac user tie their panties up in knots :D

Yeh I do hate Macs and I especially hate the way that apple markets them (see Apple Home Page (http://www.apple.com/)), my bad experience comes from a few years ago at Uni where my one button mouse wielding, Mac educated Lecturer couldn't figgen use a Java application we made and sent our thesis down the drain

it was too hard to double-click on stuff, right-click menu's were something new to him, holding shift to use a multiple selection box was also new ... geezuz even Motif UI components have this *****

Add to this my CIO is a Mac zeolot .. can't stand that evangelism ... every time they do a presentation using a Mac, they have technical difficulties, wireless plays up, sound doesn't work, static noise when plugged into a projecter etc makes me hate Macs even more GRrrrrrR

Anyway you see its pointless making a valid argument in defence of Macs as im inherently biased against the OS and its community.

Add to this my CIO is a Mac zeolot .. can't stand that evangelism ...

As if wintels hadn't theirs...

And it's not as much that I like Macs but I hate mis/disinformation.

Run what ?

I could mention alot of things, but games is enough.

Run what ?

I could mention alot of things, but games is enough.

But you could not mention WoW...

(nor Lineage 1 btw)

And the only thing you can blame for it is DirectX.
OpenGL games get generally ported.
open technologies vs proprietary.
