Start out by readin the info on them in the "Library" portion of the website. Then use that little search button on the top of the forum page. I know there was a thread earlier today discussing the monk as an anti-dagger in c5.
I find it better to give someone a link instead of telling them to just search. As someone new to the game and the forum won't know how to word the search to find what they want....
Ok, I apologize for sounding a bit surly, but that's not how I intended it. I'll Clarify:
Start out looking in the library section. Look at the class descriptions, the skills, masteries, etc. Surely that won't answer ALL of your questions, but it'll teach you a bit about the classes, at which point you can ask a more specific quest, that we can actually answer.
Before you ask the question, however, it is usually best to do a search for the key terms in it, to make sure you're not duplicating an existing thread.
I really wasn't trying to come down on him, just trying to narrow the field a bit so we get a question that doesn't require 2 pages to answer.
Spudnik, why you say "contradictory" after raider? Can you clarify that pleae...
Do you mean monk and raider? They are contraditory because monk got speed and less damage. On the other hand, raider got damage and less speed? Thanks
I am an Orc Raider. I have played with an Orc Monk. I think both are awesome. But very different. The monk is exteremely fast, and puts an elf to shame. And their damage is quick and high, like a nuker. They have better HP than a nuker, so they can take a bit of a beating.
The Raider is a tank. He/she can take a LOT of beating. Plus, he/she has extra survival skills in the event that their HP runs low.
Both are good for soloing, the monk just has to be more careful to avoid situations where they take a severe beating, and they probably have to spend more time re-charging their MP.
In group situations, the Raider can take a tank roll, and the monk will be a DD.
Raider isn't really good for a party tank. They take beatings well, but have no hate skill, which makes it hard for them to hold aggro off of the healers, nukers, and archers. The one A-Grade destroyer that I know personally did all of his leveling solo, with his 2-boxed SE. This speaks well of them in PvE, considering he went all the way to 66/67/whatever he is atm by himself.
To Ilcura,
I would suggest you go raider/destroyer if you like the 2-handed sword and if you have just recently started playing the game. The reasons for this is simple:
1) You can choose from many weapons: one-handed sword/blunt, two-hand sword/blunt, pole
2) Destroyers are much cheaper to level - especially at higher levels tyrants get very expensive
3) The versatility of the class: If you have no tank in party, the heavy armour masteries are good. You are also dd.
Basically, you can't go wrong with Destroyer, you just have to find the correct build - how you want to play it.
Personally, I'm thinking of subclassing tyrant because I have had the time to make the money needed (I have a high level Dwarf to make my shots) and because I want pure dd.
Both are great classes, but gear-wise, destroyers are much more versatile. Tyrants dont have even half as many weapons/armours to choose from.

We had a destro tank for us for 5+ lvls 70-75. He rarely lost agro. Then again it was prolly more skill than class. he wouldn't target his oppentent until he was on top of it making sure he got the first hit to keep agro longer.
I'm only up to lvl 39, but I will say most of the time I am able to keep mobs on me, even without the Hate skill. There are occasions when they break, but the only time I've seen a problem is when I try to pull 3 mobs and get 6. This is not a real problem in a big party, but it can be a problem if there are only one or 2 other mystics in the party, as they can get overwhelmed very quickly.

i said that because Melee Damage dealer really is a contradiction in terms. every class can deal some damage, true, others moreso, others extreme damage at all times. full-on or nothing ( <- magic ) .
so true damage dealers in my own view are only those that do such Uber damage.
but enough of that, for a raider (destroyer) use a 2handed sword as the masteries for it stack up on themselves and you will do a ton more damage (slightly slower) per hit than your monk (tyrant) counterpart.
even with totems active, on the pts my tyrant lvl 75 fully buffed had less than 1000 patk (but more than 1200 attackspeed o.0 ) and any destroyer can easily beat that in B grade.

destroyers are really the best tanks for small parties. i almost never loose aggro when partied with 5 or less nukers even against red mobs, because crits add aggro, i ussually party with an SE or WC in party (both have focus buff), and i always make sure to get the first hit on the mobs. partying with archers is another story, since they crit as much as or more than i do. destroyer, i will admit, is not the best raid tank.
edit: until i outleveled him, i frequently partied with a tyrant in heavy armor that filled the roll of tank.
